A FIELD OF SOY OR WHITE BEANS RIPENING IN THE SUN
Even with the tall pine trees around us there were long shafts of moonlight spilling onto our living room floor early this morning. Opened the patio door to let the sounds of the unseen crickets flood in with their calming chirping sounds. I was in my recliner all toasty warm in my flannelette PJ's with my big green security blanket stretched over me. Ambient music on the stereo & my laptop on my lap. Max was asleep on the couch, Checkers beside my chair & the little Motormouse was upside down sawing logs over on her little doggy bed under the window. A few sounds down the hall told me Kelly was up & about & soon the sweet smell of coffee was permeating the early morning air. Pretty darn nice way to begin another day I'd say.
CHECKERS ISN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO LIKES GOING FOR RIDES IN THE JEEP
It had been over a month since I last had the motorcycle out for a run so figured Sunday morning was a perfect time for a nice leisurely ride in the country. Well, it was not to be. When I hit the starter switch the battery put up a gallant but brief effort to start the engine before dying. Didn't feel like pulling the battery out, recharging it, etc so just threw my camera gear into the Jeep & headed out on a 4 hour relaxing country drive. Would have liked to stop in to see my Uncle Harry in Mitchell but I can't take a chance on going into any Nursing Homes yet with this 'Superbug' still in me. Called him tonight & despite a tumble this morning he is doing pretty good.
BY GOLLY, JUST ABOUT THE WHOLE HERD WAS IN THE RIVER TODAY
My drive was very reflective as my mind kept turning to the future & what is to be. It wasn't until I got home later around 3 that I learned Kelly's Dad had died. Sunday night was a flurry of phone calls & here it is Monday already. Thank you to the many folks for their thoughts & concerns regarding the passing of Kelly's Dad. Very much appreciated & I'm sure the folks in Spencerport will be reading all those comments as well. I had forgot to mention in the blog that Kelly's Mom & Dad had just celebrated 66 years of marriage not long ago & when Frank died, his wife Gene & son, Peter were at his bedside. (I have since added that to Sunday's blog)
A FEW GREEN WEEDS IN THE OLD BEAN FIELD
Well, it's another Monday & the start of another new week & almost the start of another new month. I think this has been the fastest summer on record......and of course the hottest!! Another heat & humidity weather front has muscled it's way in to our area so we are once again sweltering in high daytime temps. Kelly was busy at work today making preparations for being away for a few days. I stayed close to home fielding a few phone calls & forwarding incoming emails to Kelly over at Deer Park Lodge.
NOTICE THE SACS OF SUNFLOWER POLLEN THIS LITTLE BEE IS CARRYING
Earlier this summer I had come across a website from a real working ranch in Southern Arizona. I had meant to add THE GRAPEVINE CANYON RANCH to our blog roll at the time but must have forgot. I rediscovered this ladies fine writings this morning & promptly added her site to our 'Blogs We Follow.' The ranch is located not too far from where we have spent time these past couple of winters on the ranch near McNeal Az. Grapevine Canyon Ranch is located in the foothills of the Dragoon Mountains north of McNeal near the old ghost town of Pearce & near the current town of Sunsites. This is also the area where the Cochise Stronghold is located & you can read about our hike through this rugged Indian land here.....KELLY & AL'S HIKE TO THE COCHISE STRONGHOLD
A BORDER OF SUNFLOWERS ALONG THE LANE APPEARS TO HOLD BACK A WANDERING FIELD OF BEANS
Slipped into town for a few groceries & my spirits were lifted when I spied something in one of the frozen food isles. I see High Liner is still making one of my all time favorite sea foods. Fish Sticks. How nice that is to know for the next time I get the urge for some fine dining from the sea. A big wallop of mashed potatoes topped with butter on a plate swimming in creamed corn with a big humongous stack of Fish Sticks. And you folks thought I didn't know anything about fine dining eh!! I'm quite the little food connoisseur you know:))
Don't need no Muscles or Schmuscles, Lobsters or Clams,
Don't need no Scallops & Crabs or Flounders on Slabs.
Just make mine Fish O Sticks from Captain High Liner
And my cuisine for the day just couldn't be finer:))
AWWWWW NUTS, I GOT MOONED BY A HERD OF COWS TODAY!!
Once again, thanks to all you folks for your kind comments regarding Kelly's Dad. She leaves first thing in the morning for Spencerport, NY.

It is not the concept of God I have a problem with.....it is his fan club that causes me grievous concern:((
The only thing better than right now will someday be the memories of right now...... AL.
Best wishes for safe travels to Kelly as she will make her way to and from New York.
ReplyDeleteWishes for you, Al, to continue in your recuperation from the recent virus. Fish sticks will do the trick! Take care of yourself while you are alone for a few days.
The cow picture is a hoot. Thanks for the tip on the ranch site. I will check it out.
ReplyDeleteI am catching up on blog reading and was saddened by the recent news of Kelly's father. My father passed away in August of 2006 in a hospice facility. I know he received the best care to make him as comfortable as possible in his last few months as I am sure Kelly's dad did. It is hard knowing the end is near. It is loving family and friends that helps us make it through this difficult time. Please let Kelly know she and her entire family are in our prayers. May she have a safe journey to and from NY. Hugs to you both.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe
My thoughts are with Kelly at this time, and I hope she has a safe trip.
ReplyDeleteI love cows, and you included two fine pictures of them - can't decide which is my favorite!
Fish sticks sound good. I haven't had them in years, I guess since my kids were little. Looks like a trip to the frozen foods section is in order.
Fishstix are an American Treasure!! Safe travels to Kelly...and as for you, Al....You will be waiting to give her a much needed hug when she returns.
ReplyDeleteOur condolences to Kelly and her family on the passing of her father.
ReplyDeleteNow I would have used that cow picture for my "THE END" series, but I think I like the concept of being mooned better. :)
ReplyDeleteSafe and peaceful travels for Kelly. :(
So, I'm reading your blog and thinking your opening paragraph is perfect as it creates a warm, cozy atmosphere with its well written description. From there you move on to talk about your bike, then going for a nice drive in the country and I'm thinking Al is doing a great job of writing here.
ReplyDeleteAlthough sad news, you also did a great job of talking about Kelly's father and the fact that he had been married for 66 years. Again, please give our best to Kelly, but I know she will have many, many great memories of her Dad for years to come.
All is going well with your blog until you mention Fish Sticks! Fish Sticks!! Then you go even further by referring to Fish Sticks as "fine dining from the sea"!! Are you mad??? They are frozen, tasteless mystery fish!! You might as well eat Corn Dogs as you probably couldn't tell the difference!
Geez, Al, get on down to the supermarket and buy some fresh B.C. Sockeye Salmon - that's fine dining from the sea!! Not Fish Sticks!
Safe travels to Kelly. I think it's wonderful that her parents were married 66 years, that's a long time!
ReplyDeleteI am however, with Rick on the fish sticks. Don't you live near water? Can't you get fresh fish?
Hey Rick, you should send him some pacific cod or salmon!
Sounds like he needs to eat real fish, not that mechanical placebo garbage in the box!!!
ewww.
BTW, SD loves Fish sticks too, I just can't seem to swallow them, taste too unfishlike to me (is that a word?)
Cheers!
First of all we hope Kelly has a safe trip to New York and keep her in our prayers, the loss of parents is especially tough, Al if Fish sticks ring your bell, bring them on, I have learned ways to spice up a meal for one with a lot of frozen ingredients, since donna isn't home several nights a week, nessecity is the mother of invention, I know I don't look hungry by any means. Be safe out there, Sam & Donna.
ReplyDeleteA little behind on reading blogs and just saw the news about Kelly's dad. Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of Kelly's dad. We will certainly keep her and the family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteWe wish Kelly a safe journey as well.
Mike & Gerri (happytrails)
