SAYING OUR GOODBYES TO THE RANCH GANG EARLIER THIS YEAR & HEADING ON DOWN THE ROAD  (All photos taken by Jeanie at the ranch)

I am short of photos tonight so am going to include some file pics just sent to us from the ranch folks.  They show our morning departures from the ranch both this year & the year before.

SAYING OUR GOODBYES IN MARCH OF 2009 & HEADING FOR HOME

The prime focus for myself & countless thousands of other people today was to simply remain as cool as possible.  The record breaking heat wave continues with each day seemingly hotter than the day before.  By 9 a.m. this morning I had to retreat into the house after the humidity began turning me into a big sticky sweat ball.

CLEANING THE CORRAL.....DOESN'T LOOK LIKE KELLY'S GOT TOO MUCH 'STUFF' ON THAT SHOVEL!!

Sure glad we made the decision 3 summers ago to have central air installed.  One of our better decisions for sure & much more comfortable for our doggy guys too.

SAYING 'SO LONG PARDNERS' TO MY 2 BEST RANCH PALS, PEARCE & GLEESON IN  09

Judging from some comments on last night's post I had better clear up a misconception I may have created lately with my 'Jeep tales.'  First let me say, I love our Jeep:))  Yes, it's true, the Jeep is not as easy to get in or out of as our mini-van that's for sure.  But, that is not the Jeep's fault just as it isn't my motorcycle's fault that I have difficulty getting on & off it as well.  When I get off the bike I have to generally & embarrassingly reach back, grab my lower right pant leg & pull my horizontally straightened leg off the seat & let it drop to the road beside my other leg.  The problem is simply mine........I have short legs!!  Guess that explains why I have never been a runner.  I'm built more like a quarter horse I guess.  I can move very fast for a short distance & that's it.  Although I did surprise myself last winter when I had to run to the aide of a downed ultra-kite pilot in the desert having big troubles with his chute & kite in high winds near Borrego Springs, California.  But, here I go getting way off topic again.

THE LITTLE MOTORMOUSE IS SAD ABOUT LEAVING HER PALS

Let me just say that I am really enjoying getting to know the different Jeep characteristics & it takes me back to my very first car in 1963 which happened to be a 61 Volkswagen Beetle.  There are many similarities between that little bug & this little Jeep & in future blogs I will talk about those similarities, plus more observations, events, & discoveries as as they occur.  And yes, they have been occurring alright:))DSCN0299

FEEDING THE CHICKENS ONE LAST TIME

Had a mobility van run this afternoon & although I had the settings on the A/C maxed out it just barely kept us cool.  I remember last summer we only had to run the A/C in the house 2 or maybe 3 days out of the whole summer but we are already way over that & it's only the first week in July.  However, in only 5 weeks it will be mid August & that is when our weather pattern changes for the year & the very first early stirrings of Autumn will be felt.  Night time temps will drop & days will be cooler.

LOADING UP THE MAXELL BOY IN 09

Thought I had better throw that little bit of early Autumn factual encouragement in for Donna over there at the CAVE DWELLINGS who at the present time is having quite a time with herself.  She's 'down' with a nasty case of 'Hitch Itch' as she is yet again caught in another phase of........'yearning to travel.'  Well, I sure know what that feels like alright!!  Maybe y'all could drop over there & cheer her up a tad before husband Dennis sticks her in the recycling bin again.

I KNOW IT'S A SAD MORNING CHECKERS BUT IT'S TIME FOR US TO GO NOW:((

Say it isn't so!!  Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is turning 70.  If Ringo's 70 already, where the heck does that leave the rest of us.  Ohhhhhhh, say it isn't so:((

GROANER'S CORNER:((  And here's a question for the Doctor.....Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life........is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer.  That's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.  "Now, that's my kinda Doctor:))"

SO, YOU DON'T THINK IT SNOW'S IN SOUTHERN ARIZONA EH!!

DSCN0372

THOUGHT THESE SNOW PICTURES FROM ARIZONA MIGHT BE APPROPRIATE IN THE MIDST OF OUR HEAT WAVE RIGHT NOW.....'YES, ARIZONA!!'

DSCN0376 DSCN0382   DSCN0377 DSCN0373

The past couple of winters Kelly & I have had some great times 'ranch sitting' for some RV friends of ours near McNeal, Arizona.  Ranch owners Jeanie & Ray just sent us some photos they had taken at different times when we were there.  This group of pics is from a freak snowfall we had one morning 2 winters ago.  And who says it doesn't snow in Arizona eh!!

AND, JUST WHO ARE THESE TWO CUTIE PIE LITTLE RASCALS??  HINT....THEY ARE BROTHER & SISTER:))

Had planned on taking another baby Robbins photo about 4 days ago but when I went out to the nest it was empty.  The little feathery guys had already flown the coop.  And speaking of babies.....some of you may remember last winter when one of Kelly's twin daughter's gave birth to a set of twins herself out in Vancouver.  Well,  here's the gang now.   Mom, Pop, & kids are all doing fine.  The two little round faced bowling balls are Gabrielle & Adara.  Their Mom is Sarah (Kelly's daughter) & some of you folks out there on Canada's west coast might recognize their Dad, Bradley Shende.  He is on Global Television doing segments on a program called Connected Life which has to do with the internet & especially internet safety.

Also had myself a fine working day with two thirds of my run to London this morning taking me through our beautiful rural countryside.  Dropped off two people at Parkview hospital around 10:15 & then high tailed it north right back out of the city as fast as I could.  Had a couple of hours to kill before my next pick up back in Clinton so I leisurely took the back roads & enjoyed the scenery stopping here & there for a few photos with my small Canon Powershot A720.

FINALLY GOT ANOTHER ONE FOR YA MIKE

Assuming all you folks are not totally bored of my Jeep observations lately I will once again tell you a few more things I have learned this past week.   If you were to go into your washroom, get down on your knees beside the bathtub, & then attempt to swing your right leg over the top into your tub you would have an idea what it is like trying to get into a Jeep Wrangler.  From the ground to the lip of the body panel is over 2 feet off the ground so while standing beside the Jeep you have to get that right leg & foot up high enough to swing over top that lip & drop it down nearly 7 inches to the floor of the Jeep.  At this point I am quite a sight with the right leg up over 2 feet off the ground & inside the Jeep while the left leg is ram rodded to the ground outside the Jeep.  Right hand clinging to the steering wheel, look of fear on my face & the left arm hanging straight down at my side like a wet noodle.  If I was Catholic this would probably be the opportune time to make one of those cross signs on my chest.  Also.....'memo to myself'......  Do not eat a big bowl of Chile beans half an hour before attempting this maneuver & do not wear tight fitting pants while attempting this feat.  Coupling those two things with the leg up position climbing into a Jeep could result in a rather catastrophic mis-adventure!!  Oh, the hazards of a newbie Jeep owner......but there's more!!

DSC_7786

To confuse this Jeep entry procedure even further we have running boards on the sides & the first bunch of times trying to enter the Jeep with some sort of dignity I tried putting a foot on that & hoisting myself up with my right hand on the steering wheel, or was it the left hand.  First time I nearly launched my self over top the Jeep & the second time I started with the wrong foot on the running board & very nearly ended up in some kind of big wiggling puddle of embarrassment on the ground.  I kind of liken it to putting the wrong foot in a stirrup when mounting a horse.  JB would know a whole lot more about that than me.

 DSC_0027-1DSC_7793 DSC_7792

As you can probably tell by now.......this is quite a learning process & not unlike trying to get a big old wet & floppy bag of socks into a laundry hamper.  That nearly 7 inch lip did give me an idea though.  If we were to take the seats out of the Jeep we could bring the garden hose over & fill up the tub so to speak.  Jeeps are made to handle water & actually have drain plugs in the floor.  In this heat & humidity it would make a perfect shallow wading pool for us.  These Jeep designers are quite the creative thinkers you know.  Imagine driving down the highway sitting in half a foot of sloshing water.  Jacuzzi on wheels.  It brings 'boating' thoughts to mind & that reminds me......I've got to dust off my crowbar & somehow get that hard top off the Jeep before the summer is over!!!!

GROANER'S CORNER:))  During a recent password audit, it was found that a red head was using the following password:
'MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofyWashington'
When asked why she had such a long password, she said she was told that it had to be at least 8 characters long and include at least one capital.

TRAPPED INDOORS BY THE HEAT & HUMIDITY

DSC_7778

WILD RASPBERRIES ALONG THE TRAIL

As with most of the eastern side of the country we are caught in a heavy heat & humidity situation here in southern Ontario.  Our thermometer's are pushing a hundred degrees, the air is very still & we spent most of the day trapped indoors with our A/C going full tilt.  Just an ordinary day in paradise for our our southwest neighbors I'm sure, but for we folks in the northern latitudes......it is a humidity heat wave!!  Just heard on the news that the entire downtown core of Toronto Ontario has suffered a major blackout.  No elevators, traffic lights & no A/C for thousands of people.....& Tuesday they are calling for an even hotter day.

DSC_7790

SOMETHING IN ONE OF OUR FLOWER BEDS

However, I sure do not miss having to put a sweater, warm hat & mitts on anymore to drive the mini-van on hot humid days. That darn A/C snow making machine in the dash would get the inside so cold I had to have a set of inner windshield wipers installed just to keep it clear of the snow blowing out of the dash vents.   No sireeeee, that problem has now been taken care of. Made sure the Jeep did not have one of those darn fangled ice making machines under the dash. No more sweaters, hats, or mitts because with the windows wide open now the hot humid air just whips in blowing my hat off & cools me right down instantly.  That reminds me.....I need to drill a couple holes on either side of my ball cap to hook in both ends of a bungee cord.   I can then just quite conveniently slip the bungee cord under my chin like the string on a cowboy hat therefore solving my 'hat blowing off' problem.  For really hot & humid days I can slip on a big Willy Nelson red bandana across my forehead & that should take care of any beading sweat dripping into my eyes. And you know what..... taking off my shirt in the Jeep has now become an important & practical new option as well. Yep, jest gotta love these Jeeps alright:))

DSC_7785

Oh, & before I forget.....the Jeep also has a built in exercise program.  We don't have to lazily press a button & have all the doors automatically lock & unlock anymore.  It's really nifty because now I can climb out of the Jeep (another story) & physically walk around locking all 3 doors from the outside.  Now, how cool is that for getting some extra & much needed exercise.  I can already feel the pounds melting away:))  I did come up with a short cut for locking the passenger door or putting the window up & down over there though.  The Jeep's interior is small enough inside to just stretch my arm over in a boarding house reach & do it manually.  Groovy:))

NO SOONER HAD I PUT AN OLD TENNIS BALL OVER THE CHROME HITCH BALL WHEN I HAD 2 DOGGY GUYS TRYING TO PULL IT OFF FOR A GAME OF TOYS

Tomorrow I will be busy most of the day with the mobility van starting with an early morning run to a hospital in the south end of London & later finishing up in the small town of Clinton.  Aside from the nutball London traffic it should be an OK day.

GROANER'S CORNER

Not so much a groaner tonight as some positive food for thought.................The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.
One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"
To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Barbara. Be honest. What do you make?"  Barbara, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make......??"  She paused, & then went on.  "Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner.
I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents
CAN'T make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
You want to know what I make? (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table)
I make kids wonder.
I make them question.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.
I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding ISN'T
EVERYTHING.
I make them read, read, read.
I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.
I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity.
I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.
Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life (Barbara paused one last time and then continued.)
Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant.
You want to know what I make?
I MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
What do you make Mr. CEO??
