After posting Monday night's blog, I again grabbed my camera and tripod, hopped into Subie, and headed off for Bayfield again. Since the new Bayfield bridge was completed a couple of years ago I have never been down around or under it. I had heard there was a walkway under the bridge so last night I headed that way for a looky see and yes indeed, there is a nice wide walkway leading down under the bridge from the west side around to the east side.

With gray skies, a spitting drizzle, and a cold wind blowing, Pheebs and I didn't head out for a car ride this morning. Figured it would be a good morning to be out of the wind working in the carport storage area. So, that is what I did. It still felt cold and damp but with persistence, I made lot of headway this morning and my dumpster is full.

SUBIE'S DOOR AND HATCH ARE OPEN TO LET THE MUSIC OUT |
Not especially wanting to sit around this afternoon and needing something different to do, Pheebs and hopped into the Subaru, gassed it up in Bayfield, grabbed a decaf coffee to go at Hortons, and headed south down the Bluewater Highway in the direction of Grand Bend. They have a Home Hardware store there that carries the #1 Melita coffee filters I use in my one cup coffee maker. My food supplies were getting a little low so from Grand Bend we headed to Jerry Raders Homestyle in Zurich, Ontario to stock up. I am still using the two Jerry Rader gift cards I received late last December following Kelly's passing. I don't know if I mentioned this before but the one gift card by an anonymous donor from Stratford Ontario turned out to be Lorraine. (Woodsy) The other gift card was given to me by our good neighbor Monica's children. So here was my haul for today.... 3 Cream of Turkey soups, 1 Cream of Potato Soup, 1 Beef pot pie, 2 Turkey pot pies, 1 Apple Blossom pastry, and a Turkey Salad sandwich for Pheebs and I to share on the way home. A good haul I'd say. Thanks, folks:))

PHEEBS SAT UP FOR THE FIRST THIRD OF OUR DRIVE THIS MORNING |

Al's Music Box:)) Teen Angel is a teenage tragedy song written by Jean Dinning and her husband, Red Surrey. Recorded at Bradley Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, the song was performed by Jean's brother, Mark Dinning, and released in October 1959. The record was not an instant success, with some radio stations in the U.S. banning the song, considering it too sad. Nevertheless, despite the reluctance of radio stations, the song continued to climb the charts. In the last week of 1959, the single jumped from #100 to #50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It went on to reach #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (February 1960 and #37 in the UK Singles Chart (even though it was banned from being played by BBC)the. Billboard ranked it as the #5 song of 1960. The song is about a girl and her boyfriend (the song's narrator) who go out for a ride together. He pulls her to safety when their car is stalled on a railroad track in the path of an oncoming train. But then she runs back to the car, and is killed in the collision. When her body is recovered, the narrator's high school class ring is in her hand, which was apparently the reason she ran back. The last verse ends with the lyrics: "I'll never kiss your lips again/They buried you today." The final line in the coda asks the Teen Angel to: "Answer me, please." "Teen Angel" and its two predecessors at the Hot 100's top spot, "El Paso" by Mary Robbins and "Running Bear" by Johnny Preston, continued a string of tunes in which someone dies tragically.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( “I’ve just had the most awful time”, said a boy to his friends. “First, I got angina pectoris, then arteriosclerosis. Just as I was recovering, I got psoriasis. They gave me hypodermics, and to top it all, tonsillitis was followed by appendectomy”.“Wow! How did you pull through?”, sympathized his friends.“I don’t know”, the boy replied, “toughest spelling test I ever had”.------------------------------------
Q. Why were Adam and Eve the happiest couple that's ever lived?
A. Because they didn't have in-laws!
- A teacher asked a particularly dull, lazy, and objectionable pupil if he was ignorant or apathetic. The pupil replied: “I don’t know, and I don’t care!”
- Two translators on a ship are talking.
“Can you swim?”, asks one. “No”, says the other, “but I can shout for help in nine languages”.
- What do you call a dinosaur with an extensive vocabulary? A thesaurus!
- What is the longest word in the English language? “Smiles”, because there is a mile between its first and last letters.

The man asked 'Will you gamble it away?'
The bum said: 'No.' Then the man asked: 'Will you come home with me, so my wife can see what happens to a man who doesn't drink or gamble?'

Al, I hope you won’t mind me saying that I don’t think it’s too wise to be hanging around very dark secluded areas so late at night - I know Bayfield is a lovely quaint town, but it’s not too safe anywhere these days - lots of scary weird people here, there and every where - wouldn’t want anything to happen to you, you know 😱
ReplyDeleteThat was the best gift you could have received from Lorraine … she knows you oh too well 😝
Be safe, AnnieK
Some fine photos today...including the night ones. Glad Pheebs was ready to go on the drive today....Sounds like things are going well. Hope spring really comes to stay soon...
ReplyDeleteHow lovely you have those gift cards, such thoughtful and generous people! Thanks Woodsy for looking after our buddy! Al, you shouldn't go down under that bridge at night by yourself. My goodness...
ReplyDeleteLoved the sweet photos of Miss Pheebs, what a sweetheart. I agree with the other comments about the bridge at night. JMHO but once was enough. Take care.
ReplyDeleteNo trolls, eh? Love ya, Al. Give Miss Pheebs a belly rub for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that Pheebs enjoyed the ride with you today and was able to help you eat that turkey salad sandwich:)
