BLOWING SNOW....AWFULL!!

DESPITE OUR COLD AND WET SPRING, FARMERS HAVE STILL BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT ON THEIR LAND
Old man Winter, although having officially left the area two weeks ago, just won't loosen his grip on us with overnight temps below freezing again.  It is shaping up to be a cold April here in these parts.  A short car ride for Pheebs and I and we were soon home again.  Clouds eventually replaced the earlier morning sunshine as the afternoon rapidly deteriorated into a cold rain turning to nasty blowing snow.  Awful!!!!

A NASTILY COLD AND BITTER AFTERNOON
Woodsy and I spent time cleaning out some more kitchen cupboards today.  A few more boxes and bags for the Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Goderich.

Al's Music Box:)) Rhinestone Cowboy is a song written and recorded by Larry Weiss in 1974, then popularized the next year by American country music singer Glen Campbell. When released on May 26, 1975, as the lead single and title track from his album Rhinestone Cowboy, it enjoyed huge popularity with both country and pop audiences.  In late 1974, Campbell heard the song on the radio and, during a tour of Australia, decided to learn it. Soon after his return to the United States, Campbell went to Al Coury's office at Capitol Records, where he was approached about "a great new song" – "Rhinestone Cowboy".  Several music writers noted that Campbell identified with the subject matter of "Rhinestone Cowboy" – survival and making it, particularly when the chips are down – very strongly.  As Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic put it, the song is about a veteran artist "who's aware that he's more than paid his dues during his career ... but is still surviving, and someday, he'll shine just like a rhinestone cowboy."

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A clergyman walking down a country lane and sees a young farmer struggling to load hay back onto a cart after it had fallen off.  "You look hot, my son," said the cleric. "why don't you rest a moment, and I'll give you a hand."  "No thanks," said the young man.  "My father wouldn't like it."  "Don't be silly," the minister said.  "Everyone is entitled to a break. Come and have a drink of water."  Again the young man protested that his father would be upset. Losing his patience, the clergyman said, "Your father must be a real slave driver. Tell me where I can find him and I'll give him a piece of my mind!"  "Well," replied the young farmer, "he's under the load of hay."

LUCKILY, I ONLY HAD TO GO INTO ONE OF THE THREE:))

DESPITE OUR ONGOING COLD SPRING, THE DAYLILIES ARE SURGING UPWARD FROM THEIR WINTER HIBERNATION
Sunny day.......but cold.  No matter, more yard work caught up this morning.  I'm slowly getting there.  Woodsy and I slipped up to Goderich early this afternoon with a planned 3 stops.  Food Basics, Zehr's Supermarket, and Walmart.  Luckily, I only had to go into one of the three to pick up a prescription at the Walmart Pharmacy.  A lazy afternoon........

Al's Music Box:))  Mellow Yellow is a song written and recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan.  Released in the US in 1966, it reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Outside the US, "Mellow Yellow" peaked at No. 8 in the UK in early 1967.  The song was rumored to be about smoking dried banana skins, which was believed to be a hallucinogenic drug in the 1960s, though this aspect of bananas has since been debunked.  According to Donovan's liner notes for the album Donovan's Greatest Hits, the rumor that one could get high from smoking dried banana skins was started by Joe McDonald in 1966, and Donovan heard the rumor three weeks before "Mellow Yellow" was released as a single.  Donovan had originally written the song as a throwaway sing-a-long for private parties, and was surprised when producer Mickie Most chose it to be the follow up single to "Sunshine Superman". The song was arranged by session musician John Paul Jones and became one of his first to achieve international success. At first Donovan was disappointed in the horn sound, until Jones came up with the idea to use "hats" (horn mutes) to achieve the required "mellow" mood.  In addition, Donovan tuned his acoustic guitar to a D-major drone to mimic slide blues players.  Paul McCartney can be heard as one of the background revelers on this track but contrary to rumour, the "quite rightly" whispering line in the chorus is not McCartney, but rather Donovan himself.  Donovan had a small part in coming up with the lyrics for "Yellow Submarine", so McCartney returned the favor by helping out on the title track and playing uncredited bass guitar on portions of the MellowYellow Submarine album.

I THINK THESE JUST MIGHT TURN INTO DAFFODILS ONE OF THESE DAYS
GROANER'S CORNER: A Chinese person walks into a bar in America late one night and sees Steven Spielberg. As he was a great fan of his movies, he rushes over to

him, and asks for his autograph.
Instead, Spielberg gives him a slap and says "You Chinese people bombed
our Pearl Harbor, get out of here."
The astonished Chinese man replied "It was not the Chinese who bombed
your Pearl Harbor , it was the Japanese".
"Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, you're all the same," replied Spielberg.
In return, the Chinese gives Spielberg a slap and says "You sank the
Titanic; my forefathers were on that ship."
Shocked, Spielberg replies "It was the iceberg that sank the ship, not
me."
The Chinese replies, "Iceberg, Spielberg, Carlsberg, you're all the
same."
