I KINDA TOOK A LIKING TO THESE VIBRANT BLUE MALL DECORATIONS |
A cold and windy morning as Pheebs and I slipped into Bayfield and back. It always amazes me that no matter how cold or stormy the weather there are usually a few hardy fishermen out on the pier or along the boat dock all bundled up against the weather standing there with their fishing poles. It must be a man thing........

The arms on my new glasses have been hurting to a point where I couldn't wear them, so today Lorraine (Woodsy) and I headed off to Lens Crafters in London's Masonville Mall. While I popped in to have the arms adjusted, Woodsy slipped into the Hudson Bay store next door. Finally finding her way out of there it was down a level to the food court for a bite to eat. Needing some exercise, we walked around the mall with Lorraine popping into a few stores along the way. Me?? I'm not a store popper so I just find a bench to sit on and try hard not to look and feel so out of place in the big city surroundings. From Masonville Mall, it was then across the road for a couple more store stops, (Winners and Bulk Barn) two coffees to go from Tim Hortons, and it was back to Bayfield we went. Glasses are feeling comfortable so far. Woodsy headed back to Stratford later this afternoon. This long-ago treasured friend of mine has been a huge help to me in these past difficult months. The waters haven't been entirely smooth and I've taken my share of dunkings, but by golly, I think we are both adjusting remarkably well. There is a lot of humor between us and it is nice to finally lighten up a bit and laugh again.

Al's Music Box:)) Georgia On My Mind sung by Ray Charles is a 1930 song written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell and first recorded that same year by Carmichael at the RCA Victor Studios at 155 East 24th Street in New York City. The song has been most often associated with singer Ray Charles, who was a native of the U.S. State of Georgia in the South of the United States, and recorded it for his 1960 album The Genius Hits the Road. In 1979, the State of Georgia through its General Assembly of Georgia, designated Charles' version the official State song. The song has become part of the Great American Songbook tradition. "Georgia on My Mind" has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame twice. The first induction was in 1993 for the 1960 recording on the ABC-Paramount label by Charles. The second induction happened in 2014 for the earlier 1930 recording on the RCA Victor label by Carmichael and His Orchestra. It has been asserted by some that composer Hoagy Carmichael wrote the song about his sister named Georgia. However, Carmichael wrote in his second published autobiography / memoirs Sometimes I Wonder (1976), that saxophonist Frankie Trumbauer told him he should write a song about the State of Georgia. Trumbauer jokingly volunteered the first two words, "Georgia, Georgia...", which Carmichael ended up using while working later on the song with his roommate, Stuart Gorrell. Gorrell, who wrote the lyrics, stated, however, that he wrote the lyrics about Carmichael’s sister. Gorrell's name was absent from the copyright application papers submitted to the U.S. Copyright Office, but Carmichael sent him royalty checks afterwards anyway. Carmichael first recorded "Georgia on My Mind", with Bix Beiderbecke on cornet, in New York City on September 15, 1930. In 1960, Ray Charles, a native of Georgia, recorded a version of the song that went to No. 1 on the Billboard magazine Hot 100. Charles' hit rendition would become the most widely-known version of the tune from this time on. It would also be the song most associated with his musical career. The string intro was copied by the Eagles for their piano intro to 'Desperado'.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( Grandpa was celebrating his 100th birthday and everybody complimented him on how athletic and well-preserved he appeared. "Gentlemen, I will tell you the secret of my success," he cackled. "I have been in the open air day after day for some 75 years now." The celebrants were impressed and asked how he managed to keep up his rigorous fitness regime. "Well, you see my wife and I were married 75 years ago. On our wedding night, we made a solemn pledge. Whenever we had a fight, the one who was proved wrong would go outside and take a walk."----------------------------------

After a long, dry sermon, the minister announced that he wished to meet with the church board after the service. The first man to arrive was a stranger. You misunderstood my announcement. This is a meeting of the board, said the minister. know, said the man. If there is anyone here more bored than I am, i'd like to meet him.

Laughter is indeed the best medicine! So glad you have a reason to smile. 😎
ReplyDeleteMalls sure aren't getting much business nowadays. Pheebs is so patient waiting for a drop of food... and she's getting so gray - like many of us!
ReplyDeleteGive Miss Pheebs an extra belly rub from me. Sending lots of love her way.
ReplyDeleteI miss Kelly dreadfully. She had such a grace about her.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun outing, even if not your usual location for moseying. Lightening a heavy heart is a big lift, and those that help are a blessing in our lives. One of my favorite things about having my blog is that the photos have the locations and dates - like having extra brain space :-))
ReplyDeleteLove your photos as always.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have a friend like Lorraine and I'm sure she enjoys your company as well. Looking back at that old photo of Pheebs with Kelly I can see how gray she has gotten since then. She's such a sweetie. (Bev, in Nanaimo).
