Kind of a slow morning. A few hints of sun but not enough to turf me out the door into the icy cold air. By noon, skies turned sunnier and I knew it was time to get out of the house for some fresh air and a change of scenery. There always seems to be something to pick up in Goderich so I pointed Subie's nose north and off we went. It was 18F feeling like 5F with the wind chill figured in. Would you believe I went all the way to Goderich and back with a dead battery in my camera!! I could count on half a hand the number of times I have done that over my photo years. I have been in the habit of putting a newly recharged battery in my Sony RX 10 IV every day!! But..... The few Goderich stops today were Food Basics, McD's, the Goderich harbor, and Zehr's Supermarket. In other words, another mighty exciting winter's day. NOT!!
Al's Music Box:)) Rock With You is a song by American singer Michael Jackson, written by Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones. It was first offered to Karen Carpenter, while she was working on her first solo album, but she turned it down. It was released in October 1979, by Epic Records as the second single from Jackson's fifth solo studio Album Off the Wall (1979). It was also the third number-one hit of the 1980s, a decade in which the pop singles chart would quickly be dominated by Jackson. It reached number one on both the US pop (Jackson's third number-one on this chart) and R&B charts (Jackson's second number-one on that chart). It spent a total of four weeks at the top position on the former chart from January 19 to February 9, 1980, and five weeks (from January 5 to February 9, 1980) on the latter chart. According to Billboard, the song was the fourth biggest single of 1980. It is also considered one of the last hits of the disco era. It was re-released as a single on February 27, 2006, as part of the Visionary: The Video Singles box set. In 2021, Rolling Stone placed it at number 354 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The track received generally positive reviews from music critics. J. Edward Keyes of Rolling Stone said "What's remarkable about 'Rock with You' is how unobtrusive it is: a silky string section and barely-there twitch of guitar — Michael doesn't even hit the word 'Rock' all that hard — he just glides over it, preferring to charm with a wink and a smile rather than with aggression or ferocity." Steven Hyden called it his "favorite song", and noted the line "Girrrrrrl, when you dance, there's a magic that must be love" as being "the most purely joyful moment [Hyden] has ever heard in a pop song". All Music highlighted the song on the album itself. Robert Christgau called it a smooth ballad. Cash Box praised the production, calling the song a "soft, classy number" with "multi-tracked harmonies," "a modified dance beat," "shimmering flute tones and jazzy guitar work. "A music video was released for the song, using the shorter single version. It features Michael in a sparkly sequined suit singing the song with a bright laser behind him. The video was directed by Bruce Gowers and filmed in 1979 at the 800 Stage in Los Angeles. California.
GROANER'S CORNER:(( This married couple was sitting in a fine restaurant when the wife looks over at a nearby table and sees a man in a drunken stupor. The husband asks "I notice you've been watching that man for some time now. Do you know him?" "Yes" she replies. "He's my ex-husband and has been drinking like that since I left him seven years ago." "That's remarkable" the husband replies. "I wouldn't think anybody could celebrate that long."

- You have to stay in shape. My mother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 now and... we have no idea where she is.
- My mother said, "You won't amount to anything because you procrastinate." I said, "Just wait."

It was a sunny Saturday morning, and Mike was beginning his pre-shot routine, visualizing his upcoming shot when a voice came over the clubhouse speaker--"Would the gentleman on the Lady's Tee please back up to the Men's Tee!" Mike, still deep in his routine, seemed impervious to the interruption. Again the announcement---"Would the man on the Ladies Tee kindly back up to the Men's tee, PLEASE!" Mike had had enough. He turned and shouted, "Would the announcer in the clubhouse kindly shut up and let me play my second shot!"

A completely inebriated man was stumbling down the street with one foot on the curb and one foot in the gutter. A police officer pulled up and said, "I've got to take you in, pal. You're obviously drunk." Our wasted friend asked, "Officer, are ya absolutely sure I'm drunk?" "Yeah, buddy, I'm sure," said the copper. "Let's go." Breathing a sigh of relief, the wino said, "Thank goodness, I thought I was crippled."

ReplyDeleteMy own version of your poem: " Faces are red, spirits are blue, I'm sick & tired of wild fires, how about you " ?? 😁

Al, yes, you're just like the rest of us. Some days I forget to put my memory on. Barb M.
ReplyDeleteLOL Barb M! Same here :-) I hate that feeling of getting somewhere and realizing I've forgotten something important - at least you had your wallet! I didn't remember you still had little Cora at the Congress house. That was such a great little place. I love that you're still enjoying pulling up pretty winter scenes as you live inside one.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos!!! Especially like the one with the pretty Kelly and Cora … I can feel the warmth of the sun in that pic 💕
