THERE IS SOMETHING I HAVEN'T TOLD YOU

I've been keeping something from readers for over a year now because I didn't want anyone fretting, worrying, or feeling sad.  Plus it was only a week before Christmas of 2023.  We had taken Pheebs to the Vet because she had an inner golf ball lump growth on her right side.  While at the Vets they found a second lump in her chest.  Blood was taken and she was diagnosed with cancer at that time.  Surgery was mentioned but with her age, it was not recommended.  I can tell you it was a very sad time here for quite a while after that.  But as Spring and Summer wore on, Pheebs showed no signs of distress and she was fine. Her appetite was good.  However, being with her every day since August of 2011 I've noticed she is aging much faster now I've seen a change in her.  Last night I thought I was going to lose her.  She was disoriented and weak.  She had a lost look on her face and didn't have the strength to hop up onto the couch.  She's definitely lost weight and is picking at her food instead of eating it.  I stayed up into the early wee hours of the morning and sometimes she looked like she was hardly breathing.  However, this morning she was back to her normal self with her tail wagging and she once again had on her happy little Pheeber face.  She was showing none of the negative signs of the night before.  But, just in case something happens, I just want readers to be aware of the situation and not be shocked in the event something happens to Pheebs.  And, I still don't know why she suddenly collapsed a month or so ago.........  Pheebs and I did get out for a short car ride this morning and she spent the time lying on the seat instead of sitting up and looking out the window like she usually does.  It was another cold and cloudy day and I wasn't inspired to take any photos.  But, all was not lost.  It was Ground  Hog Day and our local furry Prognosticator 'Wiarton Willy' didn't see his shadow this morning so we are absolutely and unequivocally guaranteed an early Spring:)))))))

Al's Music Box:)) Breezin' is the fifteenth studio album by jazz/soul guitarist and vocalist George Benson. It is his debut on Warner Bros. Records. It not only was a Billboard Jazz Albums chart-topper but also went to number 1 on the Pop and R&B charts. It was certified triple platinum, making it one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time.  Breezin' marked the beginning of Benson's most successful period commercially, topping the Billboard Pop, Jazz and R&B album charts.  It spun off two hit singles, the title song (which has become a fusion jazz standard) and "This Masquerade", which was a top ten pop and R&B hit. The album has since been certified as 3× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA.  The album garnered multiple nominations and awards at the 19th Annual Grammy Awards. The album won the awards Best Pop Instrumental Performance for Benson and 'Best Engineered Album Non-Classical for Al Schmitt and was nominated as Album of the Year for Tommy LiPuma and Benson.  Benson's guitar is "as assured and fluid as ever", Breezin' is "really not so much a breakthrough as it is a transition album; the guitar is still the core of his identity".

GROANERS CORNER A grandfather always made a special effort with his grandchildren. Many Sunday mornings he would take his 7-year-old granddaughter out for a drive in the car for some bonding time.  More than anything, Bob wanted to be a cowpoke. Taking pity on him, a rancher decided to hire the lad and give him a chance.  "This," he said, showing him a rope, "is a lariat. We use it to catch cows." "I see," said Bob, trying to seem knowledgeable as he examined the lariat. "And what do you use for bait?"

--------------------------------------

One particular Sunday however, he had a bad cold and he really didn't feel like being up at all. Luckily, Grandma came to the rescue and said that she would take the grandchild out. When they returned, the little girl anxiously ran upstairs to see Grandpa.  "Well," the grandfather asked, "did you enjoy your ride with Granny?"  "Oh yes, Grandpa," the girl replied, "and do you know what? We didn't see a single dumb doorknob or lousy jackass jerk !"

A man walks into a chemist's and says, "Can I have a bar of soap, please?" The chemist says, "Do you want it scented?" And the man says, "No, I'll take it with me now".

2. Leakproof thermoses - will.

3. The chances of a piece of bread falling with the grape jelly side down is directly proportional to the cost of the carpet.

4. The garbage truck will be two doors past your house when the argument over whose day it is to take out the trash ends.

5. The shirt you child must wear today will be the only one that needs to be washed or mended.

6. Gym clothes left at school in lockers mildew at a faster rate than other clothing.

7. The item your child lost, and must have for school within the next ten seconds, will be found in the last place you look.
(Tom's note: Isn't something ALWAYS in the last place you look? I mean, you don't keep looking once you've found it, do you?)

8. Sick children recover miraculously when the pediatrician enters the treatment room.

9. Refrigerated items, used daily, will gravitate toward the back of the refrigerator.

  2. Pheebs symptoms seam to be very much like those of my 20 year old cat this past year of 2024. My cat's first problem started with a seizure, and progressed to worse and more frequent seizures. She was on Phenobarbital for the seizures, but after a while, even that did not help. The vet diagnosed her with a probable brain tumor which caused the seizures. She eventually was euthanized to end her suffering. My heart was broken, and I will never forget her. :(

  9. Al, I’m so sorry to read about Pheebs … it’s so heartbreaking to lose our pets cause they really are our little fur “babies” after all. I know it hurts like hell.
You will make the hard decision and know when the time is right because you love her so, so, so much.
Kelly will be there with open arms I’m sure.
Thanks for sharing your secret with us and thinking about “us” before yourself (so we wouldn’t be shocked).
You’ve been through so much recently Al. My heart goes out to you.
Always remember what a GREAT life you and Kelly gave her - all the places you’ve travelled … what a lucky wee dog to have you as her Dad💕
Hang in there my friend - continue to make the most of your time together XO (AnnieK)

  10. Thanks for years of visiting with us. I have to sign off now. I cannot bear to think of the day I stop by for a visit and find Pheebs is no more. I’d worry about you even more—checking in too often to see if you’re okay . . . You’ve been a wonderful host and Pheebs has made up for us no longer having our pets. Be well Al. You are one in a million.

  15. Dear Al, Please think of what you will do in advance. If you don't think you can lift her alone, consider having the vet come to you if allowed. We didn't plan. It was awful and so sad. So much love sent your way for both of you.

  19. Will say a prayer for you and Miss Pheebs during this time. Just remember that we are never given more than we can handle, so one day at a time. Is it possible that Miss Pheebs has had small strokes when these episodes happen? Will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.

  20. At their age Pheebs and Tessa are showing those signs we dread but know are inevitable. It's a blessing to have so much time with them, good and bad days. Thanks for letting us know how she's doing, and how you're doing :-) Cute Kelly pics, such a great smile always. Love the cabin and little wood boat.
