We had another snow dump overnight and this morning's high winds whipped all that snow up into a full-blown snowstorm today. I left the house around 9:30 heading for the Goderich hospital but didn't get far before turning back. I could see zero visibility 'white-out's ahead and knew enough not to drive into them. I was also worried that had I made it to Goderich, the storm could have intensified and I might not have been able to get home and look after the Pheebs. This bad weather has come at about the worst possible time. The one bright spot is that Sabra is still in Goderich and has been able to make it to the hospital okay each day to see her Mother. I'm so thankful Sabra is with her. Of course, Kelly and I talk on the phone every day but it's not the same as being there.

Kelly called about 3:45 this afternoon to say that she has been accepted by the Huron Hospice Home west of Clinton Ontario near Holmesville. There is a chance she may be moved there tomorrow or possibly Saturday. Weather permitting of course. Her voice was still fairly strong today but that is because she was on her iPhone. In her room with a noisy exhaust fan going overhead, she is hard to hear when she speaks barely above a whisper at times. In her phone call with Dr Teriaky yesterday, Kelly asked him how much time he thought she might have left and he said,,,,,,a couple weeks.

Dad: Bill, wash your face! I can see what you had for breakfast this morning.
Bill: What did I have?
Dad: Eggs.
Bill: Wrong. That was yesterday!
Nutella: Noun:: God's favorite spreadable condiment, typically manufactured by pixies in the magical Land of Yum.

My sister-in-law, a truck driver, had decided to get a dog for protection. As she inspected a likely candidate, the trainer told her, “He doesn't like men.” “Perfect,” my sister-in-law thought and took the dog.
Then one day she was approached by two men in a parking lot, and she watched to see how her canine bodyguard would react. It soon became clear that the the trainer wasn't kidding. As the men got closer, the dog ran and hid under the nearest car.

ReplyDeleteThis snow is relentless…My daughter in Muskoka said she has used her snow blower more this week than all of last winter.
Good to hear that Kelly was accepted into hospice. some comfort for you in knowing how well she will be cared for there.
Caring thoughts are with you both.
Having almost died myself I can understand the peaceful feeling of knowing you’re near the end. Kelly seems to be handling it so well.
ReplyDeleteOh, Al. What a beautiful place that Hospice is! How fortunate that Kelly will be able to go there! Now if only the snow would stop so you can all visit her. Thank you for making the tour available. My heart is with you all.
ReplyDeleteFrom a book I recently finished.
ReplyDelete“…however , no matter how much life teaches you that nothing lasts forever, it is still a shock when it disappears. When the man/women you love with every fiber starts returning to the stars, one atom at a time.”
We are still keeping you all in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteEven though the Doctor gave Kelly an estimated time, it is all up to Kelly herself.
Be Safe with all that snow.
I'll be praying for the snow to stop and the roads cleared so you can spend every precious moment together.
ReplyDeleteAl, I wish you had a

A couple of weeks, so sorry ...😰 😰 😰.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you, feeling for you, wishing things were different.
ReplyDeleteThe hospice in Clinton is a beautiful place and Kelly will be very well cared for there. She deserves the best, she is the best.
The worst possible time for this weather you're having. Praying that the roads get clear enough to get in to see Kelly tomorrow or the next. This is hard enough for the two of you without adding complications.

Was so glad to read the hospice near your home would accept Kelly. Maybe they will allow Pheebs to visit, many hospice facilities in the US allow pets to visit. My heart goes out to you all Al.
ReplyDeleteSaw today that this should be the last round of big snow. I do hope so. Hope Huron Hospice is near you, just looked and it's not too far from Goderich, so it will be easy for you to take care of Pheebs if she can't come. ....learned they have 4 beds, so it should be quiet and peaceful. Looks like a lovely place. Hope they take care of you as well. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteAl, I have walked in your shoes and it is not easy. One step and one day at a time and be comforted in knowing Kelly will be getting wonderful care. My prayers continue.
ReplyDeleteRemember in 2023 we had over 12 feet of snow in less than a week. Never saw anything like it in my 39 years here in the So Cal mountains. Didn't think it was ever going to melt, but it did. Stay strong and take care.
I am glad was able to get into a nice hospice care facility. Hope you're able to visit real soon. Would you let me know the address and room number for Kelly. I would like to send her flowers.
ReplyDeleteYes, is there some way interested people could send you food or anything else you made need. Snow removal, etc.
DeleteKelly fought so very hard and now it seems she's at peace. So very sorry..... What about getting the guy you had recently to plow for you? Are there any teens to help with shoveling? When you can get out scan the town for teens and just stop and ask. They'd be glad to earn a few bucks! That's so very heavy for you to do it. Hope you can get out tomorrow to visit Kelly.
ReplyDeleteThankful that Kelly has been accepted into the Hospice, where she will receive excellent care. We hope that with what ever time that you have left together will be filled with members. Some of those being of the southwest, I hope will help to bring you both peace.
ReplyDeleteConttiuing thoughts and prayers.
Prayers.
ReplyDeleteAl you mentioned that
ReplyDeleteRichard is in a hospital,I'll he be ok soon?--Mary
Absolutely heartbreaking.

Down this road we all will travel. I can't imagine anything more difficult. Sending prayers of Peace and lots of love to you and Kelly.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news that Kelly will be in hospice - hopefully without a noisy vent fan in her room! The height of that snow on roof tops and deck is incredible! Be super careful out there. Glad you didn't continue on the roads! Amen to the quote on strength :-) That last gallery pick looks like your street in real time.
ReplyDeleteAl, so sorry to know that you may soon lose Kelly. Wishing you peace and comfort.
ReplyDeleteA Randstad was a baseball term for a called third strike that 'Blew By You'. For sure a Randstad does not apply you and Kelly. You've done so much and enjoyed so much together, and shared it with the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteA coupld of weeks.... had to let that sink in as I'm sure you both did as well. Treasure ever last minute. Hugs to you both xox
