It was thunder, lightning, and bouts of heavy clattering rain on our steel roof that rousted us out of our slumber in dawn's early hour this morning. The rain ended half a dozen hours later and by noon we had a few slivers of sunlight penetrating through the heavy cloud cover. Skies later cleared. That thunderstorm also brought cooler air in behind it and I considered that a huge bonus. I could have almost used a light jacket over my short-sleeved shirt on our jeep ride.

Earlier, while it was still raining Pheebs and I took the Jeep out figuring it needed a good rain wash. That worked okay for the top half of the jeep but a few gravel roads kinda muddied up the bottom half a wee bit.

With all the recent rain Huron County has received, the countryside is looking very lush in its many shades of green. Even junglesque in some places.

The biggest problem we are having at home regarding being outside right now is mosquitos. This hot and humid weather lately coupled with recent rains has brought the mosquitos out in droves. Tried taking Pheebs for a walk around the Park's pond a couple evenings ago and we had to cut it short and get ourselves back inside. Even a short walk out to fill the birdfeeders and my arms are flailing like windmills trying to ward off those miserable mosquitos. If I ever make it to the other side someday one of my first questions to the Powers That Be will be, 'Why the Mosquitos'!!!!!!

A word of thanks once again to all my readers. I don't exactly know how this blog of mine has kept on going for all these years except to say I feel it mainly has to do with all of you folks:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( This is a true story of the late Irish author Brendan Behan who one night collapsed in a diabetic coma in a Dublin street. It was at a time when he was at the height of his drunken notoriety and passers-by naturally thought he was dead drunk. They took him to the nearby surgery of one of Dublin's most fashionable and respected doctors. The doctor decided to take a cardiograph and, somewhat nervous of his patient, thought to humor him. He explained the workings of the cardiograph needle as it registered the faint heartbeats of the very sick and semiconscious Brendan. "That needle there is writing down your pulses, Mr. Behan, and I suppose, in its own way, it is probably the most important thing you have ever written." To which Behan weakly replied: "Aye, and it's straight from me heart, too."----------------------------------
Two drunks are walking along. One drunk says to the other, "What a beautiful night. Look at that moon!" The other drunk stops and looks at his drunk friend. "You are wrong. That's not the moon; that's the sun!" Both continued arguing for a while when they came upon another drunk walking along. So they stopped him and said, "Sir, could you please help settle our argument? Tell us what that shining thing is up in the sky that is so bright. Is it the moon or the sun?" The third drunk looked up at the sky and then looked at them and said, "Sorry, I don't live around here."

You are still an inspiration to us with your writing and photos.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Al, have you heard anything from Sue Rogers?
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't heard anything of, from, or about RV Sue and her Canine Crew for half a dozen years or so now. Last I heard she she had bought a house and was living in Sierra Vista Arizona somewhere.
DeleteI so got to wondering what happened that one day I checked it out and found that you can actually "sell or flip" a blog. I think she may have sold it. It would explain a lot. You turn over your passwords and everything. Maybe you then can't post anymore. Just a hunch.
DeleteI thank you for your blog. For me it is a glimpse of SWO where I used to live 30 + yrs ago. And so green this yr.

It may be our encouragement, but it's you Al (& of course Kelly keeping the tech side going) that keeps bringing us back. All of it. The outstanding photos, great writing, humor & song, Pheebes. Maybe even the twists & turns of life that let us know we're alive, loving and caring about others. You may be an introvert, but you sure know how to share your love of life. Even your recent quest into the afterlife has given us so much to look into. Thanks again, Al. You've given me a nice place to rest. Sometimes I find myself taking a deep relaxing breath looking at one of your photos.
ReplyDeleteMay you continue to find happiness in putting this all together for us. Sending lots of love to you, Kelly & Miss Pheebes. Barb in FL
And not only mosquitoes but rattlesnakes (which we had in our yard last night AGAIN), skunks, porcupines--the list goes on and on!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to my morning visit with you, Kelly and Pheebs. The content and quality of your photos just can't be beat. Thanks for posting and take care! Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a scrumptious collection of summer photos today! I especially like the wet berries :-) As nasty as the extreme heat is in SoCal, I'm grateful we have no bugs. And no humidity. I'm still looking forward to getting back to Tombstone to enjoy the monsoons next week!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your blog. It has been a mainstay in the blogging world for a long time. Keep on, keeping on. Great pictures as usual.
ReplyDeleteNeil Young...one of my all time favorites.
ReplyDeleteAt first, I vicariously followed along on your travels through Arizona and beyond. All those glimpses into my former home state as well as the photographs that were and are so professionally beautiful made me happy. Then I read and followed along because I got to “know” you and the doggies who called you family. Now i read and follow along because you are a part of the pulse of life we all live. As a famous singer once sang, your blue skies are our blue skies too. Thanks for carrying on.
