It was a soothing southwesterly breeze that accompanied Pheebs and I on our walk this morning under clear blue sunny skies. Not even any clouds on the horizon.

A QUIET MORNING BY OUR FROG POND |
Totally out of birdseed we slipped around to Bayfield's Porters Hill Wild Bird Seed Co and I am sure glad we did. This is where I had bought our squirrel-proof birdfeeder so I had a few questions as to what I could do to stop Little Red (a red squirrel) from getting into the feeder. Well, as luck would have it, the fellow there already knew of my squirrel dilemma and had a solution waiting for me. He gave me two steel washers and showed me where to place them on the feeder to add a little extra weight to the feeder's spring. I bought a couple bags of birdseed and hurried home to put my ploy into action. To say I had a really sneaky grin on my face would be putting it mildly. Oh, and how did the fellow at the birdseed store know about my squirrel problem?? Well, it was in that darn blog of mine ya know:))))

FLOWER PHOTOS TONIGHT ARE FROM AROUND OUR YARD |
Mowed some more grass and whacked some more weeds. Cleaned and refreshed the birdbath and just generally enjoyed a peaceful Saturday morning watching our front yard birds and anxiously waiting for Little Red to show up and try to get into the birdfeeder again.

Blog reader Kathryn left a link on my Friday night's post regarding the book I am currently reading, Between Two Kingdoms. I think Suleika Jaouad is still writing and you can possibly read about her current life and times here on her informative website The Isolation Journals. I will probably have more to say about her once I finish reading her book in a few days. Annette, in my blog's 'Shoutbox'says that Seleika's leukemia recurred earlier this year.

Okay, so it's 1:45 p.m. this afternoon and I'm sitting here at the computer when something catches my eye. It's Little Red coming down the chain to the birdfeeder. A big Cheshire cat grin begins to spread across my face. Seconds later he's on the feeder, and seconds after that he totally wipes that big grin right off my face. He's chowing down birdseed again. What!!!! And to make matters worse and to add insult to injury he turns his head around and flashes me his own big Cheshire grin. #!!%**##!! Out the door I go in my socks and head for the feeder to chase him off. I got close enough to flick his tail before he saw me. Scared the holy bejeebers out of him for sure. I took the feeder down, had a look at it, and determined all I had to do was add more weight. So it was out to the workshop I went for two more steel washers. Smugly confident all over again I headed back inside and waited patiently for my furry adversary. And I waited, and I waited, but Little Red was a 'no show' for the rest of the day. I might have just scared him right over into the next County but I'll be watching for him tomorrow. And, I have an even bigger Cheshire smile waiting for him this time. And, if all goes well, I might just rush outside and holler at him with na-nana na-nannna:)) Best not get my hopes up, ya think.............

Kelly was able to access her Friday blood test results online today and the results were not what she was hoping for. Due to extreme tiredness, it was not one of her better days. We'll see how tomorrow goes.
GROANER'S CORNER:(( Little Johnny was having problems in English class, so his teacher, Miss Figpot, decided to stop by Little Johnny's house on her way home. She wanted to discuss Johnny's poor performance directly with his parents. When she rang the doorbell, Little Johnny answered. "Hello Johnny, I'd like to talk to your mother or father," she said. "Sorry, but they ain't here." He replied. "Johnny!" She said, "what is it with your grammar?" "Haven't got a clue," Johnny replied, "but dad sure was mad that they had to go bail her out again!"----------------------------------
Ha. He'll be back. I can't wait to see how many washers you end up with. I do it hope it eventually works though. That would be quite an achievement. Lovely lovely flowers today. And foliage, and puppy face.
ReplyDeleteSquirrels can drive you nuts. Had a gray one recently that knocked the hummingbird feeder off the holder. Fortunately the bottle was plastic, however that sticky fluid was sprayed far and wide. What a mess!
ReplyDeleteCan't pick a favorite photo tonight - your yard and flower photos are all absolutely gorgeous.
Great macro work Al! I have the same issue with a squirrel, he's eating me out of house and home. No solution like you have yet. Thanks for the Suleika Jaouad shout out. looking forward to more of comments on the book. Good week to you friend
