A few posts ago I mentioned about gaining 4 pounds over Christmas and the drastic cutbacks I have made since then. 'Drastic' is maybe a little over the top but I did have to make cutbacks. I think I mentioned something about eliminating bananas from my morning shakes and that is still in effect. I've cut my orange juice intake by over two-thirds and I have eliminated honey completely from my numerous gobs of little peanut butter snacks throughout the day. I had bought myself some 'weight watchers' bread but then fell into the habit of a slice of toast smeared with honey in the morning. I have stopped my morning toast habit. I have one brown sugar cube in my main coffee each morning but had got into the habit of putting brown sugar cubes into my mid-morning and after supper decaffeinated coffees as well. I have eliminated those sugar cubes in both decaffeinated coffees. A bag of salt and vinegar potatoes chips had been left on a kitchen cupboard and I found myself snaggling them every time I walked by. And I stumbled and fell over a chocolate cupcake with about a three-foot-tall head of vanilla icing on it. I have also stopped sneaking a coconut cookie after supper!! And of course, with this colder weather, I have not been getting the same walking exercise I had been doing a couple weeks ago. My diabetic person suggested walking on the indoor track at Goderich's Fitness Complex but the thought of walking around a big oval with a bunch of other people does not appeal to me at all. And having to do it with a mask on appeals to me even less. I'm not against wearing a mask but I do have my limits. Several times I've seen people alone in their vehicles driving along with a mask on. What the heck is that all about!! Oops, I'm off topic again.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A clergyman walking down a country lane and sees a young farmer struggling to load hay back onto a cart after it had fallen off. "You look hot, my son," said the cleric. "why don't you rest a moment, and I'll give you a hand." "No thanks," said the young man. "My father wouldn't like it." "Don't be silly," the minister said. "Everyone is entitled to a break. Come and have a drink of water." Again the young man protested that his father would be upset. Losing his patience, the clergyman said, "Your father must be a real slave driver. Tell me where I can find him and I'll give him a piece of my mind!" "Well," replied the young farmer, "he's under the load of hay."

I think the snow is finally here to stay up here too. Great pix of those Snow Buntings!
ReplyDeletemay seem silly but I had to Google Snow Buntings, beautiful bird we do not have here in the Desert Southwest ....
ReplyDeleteIt really sucks watching our beloved dogs grow old. As many times as I've been through it, it never gets easier. I always wish I could turn back the clock for them. I know you've been through it several times too. Pheebs is an amazing dog.
ReplyDelete....that's why I stick to Spa and Escape on XM. Mostly traditional instrumentals.
ReplyDeleteNot knowing how old your favorite fur ball is, I can say this after having to put down our favorite fur ball of almost 14 years. Same symptoms, lost hearing, hips going bad, etc. It was the most painful feeling of loss I've felt in a long time. My best wishes to you as you navigate that journey.
ReplyDeleteI have found I cannot listed to most music since my dear wife passed a few months ago. Music lets my mind drift to dark thoughts. However, I can listen to Chill. My wife did not like that bassy dance music, so I guess that is why it works for now. I hope someday I can listen to the music we both liked. Cant now.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about Pheebs, she has been a best friend.
We laugh at those masked drivers too. Our little Robbie is getting old too, he's just turned 84(ish) on Dec 1st. He doesn't move so well and his eyes are starting to cloud, we had to put down about 15 rugs so he can maneuver along the floors in the house... I'll sure be happy when carpet comes back in fashion.
ReplyDeleteNo offense Al, but I hope Old Man Winter stays up there...and I totally agree with you: I will never understand why people "don't understand" that the task you where is for the protection of "other people", not you! So who are they protecting in their own car, by themselves? Ignorance of the uneducated I reckon...
ReplyDeleteread: mask, vice task...
ReplyDeleteChill is my go to station. Not perfect, but it keeps me awake on long drives...
ReplyDeleteThat's sad about Pheebs! Emmi is 12 years old, going on 13 and slowing down too--she sleeps more and can't seem to jump up on the couches as she used to. Tell Kelly to get some cleat like things to slip onto the soles of her shoes. Our Spokane friend Mary who with her husband Gene had to stop going south years and years ago due to Gene's health wears them on her shoes to walk. She is 84 years old and still going strong.
ReplyDeleteYes it is so hard to watch our fur kids getting old, Fred is completely deaf and I noticed he has a problem with the steps, he has tripped a few times now. Its tough on the whole family to wait for him to come running when they come to visit and he doesn't even know they are here. every now and then he gets a burst of energy and runs around the house and then he is finished for the day.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I leave my mask on when driving. Usually when going to close stores. I do it a lot before a long flight to forget it is there in my mind. Kelly really needs to wear slip on cleats. Two of my Alaska friends fell on ice and broke bones.
