I awoke to the sound of gentle rain on our roof this morning. My first thought was, 'this will be good for all the newly planted crops in farmer's fields.' That rain continued through to mid-morning delighting all the plant life in our area. Delighting me as well as it ushered in cooler mid-60s temps.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced last week that the Canadian border will remain closed until June 21. If Canada opens the border on June 21rst and Kelly waits until after that before crossing the border she could avoid all of those above nuisance procedures, restrictions, and inconveniences. The U.S. plans to open its border with Canada June 22nd with no restrictions.
GROANER'S CORNER:(( A fire started on some grasslands near a farm. The county fire department was called to put out the fire. The fire was more than the county fire department could handle. Someone suggested that a nearby volunteer bunch be called. Despite some doubt that the volunteer outfit would be of any assistance, the call was made. The volunteers arrived in a dilapidated old fire truck. They rumbled straight towards the fire, drove right into the middle of the flames and stopped! The firemen jumped off the truck and frantically started spraying water in all directions. Soon they had snuffed out the center of the fire, breaking the blaze into two easily controlled parts. Watching all this, the farmer was so impressed with the volunteer fire department's work and was so grateful that his farm had been spared, that right there on the spot he presented the volunteers with a check for $1,000. A local news reporter asked the volunteer fire captain what the department planned to do with the funds. "That ought to be obvious," he responded, wiping ashes off his coat. "The first thing we're gonna do is get the brakes fixed on our fire truck!"

Well the US may be planning to open their border but there is no way Canada will be opening that border until we reach herd immunity. We are at 50% and need to reach 75% for the first vaccine and likely 20 - 25% for those that are fully vaccinated. That June 21st date is the date the keeps being extended for another yet month, month after month.
ReplyDeleteKelly might as well just plan to come home and do what she has to. Our friends way up north here in BC did their 8 day test but they have no courier that far north so at the moment the Canadian government is trying to figure out what to do.
Here in BC we are restricted to travel within our own health zone until June 15th. Then we will be allowed ( only if enough jabs have been administered by then ) to travel within BC. On July 1st we may be allowed to travel within Canada.
Personally I am hoping that the US border might open by September.
What is really interesting is how the south border is wide open under this new administration without regard to Covid-19.
ReplyDeleteI would bet against the Canadian side of the border restrictions being cleared by June 22nd. Doubtful even by July 22nd. We are hoping to return to Canada in August, but even that will be a last minute decision.
ReplyDeleteThe US only want to open the border to allow all those RV’s to get to Alaska for the short summer season … the cheapest way north is to drive via Canada😁, and those US RVers are a powerful voting block.
ReplyDeleteKeep the border closed you don’t need the UK and Indian variants to get loose, look at Melbourne Australia just about to go back into another lockdown as their cases have exploded. Herd immunity is what is needed to even consider opening borders.
I live in NZ and are thankful every day that we have been incredibly lucky with cases and deaths, but are realistic enough to know that it will only take one person the set off a catastrophe for us and an explosion of cases and deaths.
Never been so glad to get a jab as I was last week. NZ is using the Pfizer vaccine exclusively so jab 2 is due in mid-June.
You know what our vote is and the sooner the better for Kelly! September opening works for us just so we can make plans for the winter.
ReplyDeletePretty Spring pics - it's so green!!! Our borders to the south are only open with restrictions, but not anything like those for Canada. We have cancelled our Alberta travel plans as we're not expecting tourism openings until after summer. It will all still be there next year :-)))
