MY FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY CATCH-UP POSTS

MY FIRST WALK ON GODERICH'S PARTIALLY FINISHED NEW BOARDWALK FRIDAY MORNING
This is my 'catch-up' post which starts with Friday and includes Saturday and Sunday.  I'll start with Friday first.  Finally had to revert back to Blogger's old version to make it happen.

Another mighty fine late August morning as Pheebs and I gassed up the Jeep at Goderich's Solo gas bar.  It's Pheeb's favorite stop because she always gets a treat from the nice lady there.  A few groceries at Food Basics, coffee to go at MacDonalds and it was down to the harbor with us we went.

Art's Landscaping is sure doing a great job on the new boardwalk along Goderich's shoreline between St. Christophers Beach and Rotary Cove.  The boardwalk is much wider than the old boardwalk and they have made it level with the ground making it much safer for walkers and wheelchair folks.  No stepping off the side and twisting an ankle or dropping a wheelchair wheel over the edge.

WHAT A GREAT JOB THEY ARE DOING WITH THIS BOARDWALK AND SHORELINE RESTORATION

Back in the late summer of 2006 as we were in the early days of organizing our future RV travels we bought a little device that for the next 13 years was a huge asset to us as it guided the Bayfield Bunch through many large American cities from California to Florida and numerous points in between.  I'm talking about our GPS Garmin who we affectionately referred to has 'Garmin Gertie'.  It was many the disagreements Gertie and I had over the years but in the end, despite mistakes on both sides, we persevered and safely motored around the highways and bi-ways of both Canada and the United  States.  Kelly always operated the GPS and I simply followed the directions she and Gertie came up with.  We only used the GPS for winter RV travels and never carried it in any of our vehicles while home for the summer.  Well, that has changed now.  After getting lost on 3 of our recent 'RV for sale' hunts, despite my explicitly accurate written directions, it was unanimously decided by Kelly to retire our old and faltering GPS system as well as our equally old and faltering map reader and direction writer downer.  Um, that would be me.  Three days ago she came home with a new GPS 'Garmin Drivesmart 55' and boy oh boy do I ever like this thing.  I never did understand the workings of our old Garmin but I got onto this new easy to use one right away and it now rides in the Jeep full time.  Technology never ceases to boggle my mind and these GPS systems and how they work with their overhead satellites are truly an amazing piece of mind-boggling technology.  Kelly has already programmed our home address into our new Garmin Gertie so I decided to try it out while in Goderich.  Pressed the 'take me home' button, pulled my facemask up over my eyes so I couldn't see anything, and listened to the 'turn now' voice commands all the way home.  Worked great..........you didn't just believe that did ya??

OUR NEW GARMIN GPS IS MUCH SLIMMER THAN OUR OLD ONE
GROANER'S CORNER:((  Three prisoners are captured in the war, and are about to be executed. They are asked what they wish to have for their last meal.  The Italian asks for Peperoni Pizza, which he is served and then taken away.  The Frenchmen requests a Filet Mignon, which he is served and also taken away.  The Jewish man requests a plate of strawberries.  The captors are surprised and reply, "STRAWBERRIES?"  "Yes, Strawberries."  "But they are out of season!"  "I'll wait..."
---------------------------
While visiting a water show a tourist asked one of the divers, "Why do scuba divers always fall backward off their boats?  To which the diver replied, "If they fell forward, they'd still be in the boat."
---------------------------
While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Wally and his wife Carolyn listened to the instructor declare, "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other."
He addressed the men, "Can you describe your wife's favorite flower?"  Wally leaned over, touched Carolyn's arm gently and whispered, "Pillsbury All-Purpose, isn't it honey?"  And thus began Wally's life of celibacy....

This Is Saturday's Post::
Have to say this was not one of my better days.  Although Pheebs and I did make it out for a morning Jeep ride we were back not long after we left.  I was so tired I spent a big part of my day back and forth between my two recliners reading and sleeping.  Kelly's oldest Son Ben and two boys arrived late afternoon after spending the day at Goderich's beach.  They were here for an overnighter and evening campfire.
NOT A LOT OF PHOTOS SATURDAY MORNING BUT WE DID FIND SOME COWS

LAZY SUMMER DAYS
GROANER'S CORNER:((
There's quite an art to falling apart as the years go by,
And life doesn't begin at 40. That's a big fat lie.
My hair's getting thinner, my body is not;
The few teeth I have are beginning to rot.
I smell of Vick's-Vapo-Rub, not Chanel # 5
My new pacemaker's all that keeps me alive.
When asked of my past, every detail I'll know,
But what was I doing 10 minutes ago?
Well, you get the idea, what more can I say?
I'm off to read the obituary like I do every day.
If my names not there, I'll once again start Perfecting the art of falling apart.

This is Sunday's Post::
Ben slept in the 'Winnie' and this morning said he found the bed very comfortable.  The two boys, Darion and Kye slept in our spare bedroom and we all spent a quiet night.
YEP. WE HAD A COUPLE OVERNIGHT GUESTS IN THE HOUSE ALRIGHT
With two young boys aged 6 and 8 up early and raring to go it didn't take Pheebs and I long to get out of the house and head for the peaceful welcoming arms of the quiet countryside.  Our travels took us over to the Hullett Marsh where we had ourselves a short walk.  Despite rising heat and humidity it was a beautiful sunny day with the sounds of buzzing Bees and chirping Crickets filling the morning air.  Hard to believe we are already less than a month away from the first day of Autumn.
BEAUTIFUL MORNING IN THE MARSH
HAD I NOT SEEN AN UNUSUAL RECTANGLE SHADOW ON THE GROUND I WOULD HAVE NOT SEEN THE GRASSHOPPER
MANY HONEY BEES IN THE AIR
Home again shortly after ten I right away set to work catching up my blog from the past couple days.  Kelly and the gang had headed off to downtown Bayfield so Pheebs and I had the whole place quietly to ourselves.  Our new version Blogger program will still not upload photos to my blog so Kelly hit upon the idea of trying the older version Blogger.  So that's what we did and it worked.  I was surprised the old version of Blogger was still up and working.  I do hope they get Blogger's new version running smoothly again because I do prefer the new less clunkier version over the old one.  Sunday night update::  Looks like the 'photo loading problem' with Bloggers new format has now been fixed:))
AREA BEAN FIELDS ARE RIPENING
Kelly was back home about 2:30 after they (Ben, Darion, and Kye) spent some time at a different Bayfield beach location.  Below are a few photos she took on their downtown excursion today.

KELLY GAVE EACH OF THE BOYS A BANDANA AND THEY LOVED THEM

Looking forward to cooler air on the way to put an end to this latest sticky heat wave.  Touches of Fall are definitely in the air and for me that is a very good feeling.  I'm looking forward to hopefully getting my energy levels back up to par again.
GROANER'S CORNER:(( A Chinese Doctor can't find a job in a Hospital in the US, so he opens his own clinic and puts a sign outside
'GET TREATMENT FOR $20 - IF NOT CURED GET BACK $100.'
An old guy thinks this is a great opportunity to earn $100 and goes to the clinic.
Old Guy: 'I have lost my sense of taste.'
Chinese: 'Nurse, bring medicine from box No. 22 and put 3 drops in patient's mouth.'
Old Guy: 'Ugh. this is kerosene.'
Chinese: 'Congrats, your sense of taste is restored. Give me $20.'
The annoyed old guy goes back after a few days to recover his money.
Old Guy: 'I have lost my memory. I cannot remember anything.'
Chinese: 'Nurse, bring medicine from box no. 22 and put 3 drops in his mouth.'
Old Guy (annoyed): 'This is kerosene. You gave this to me last time for restoring my taste.'
Chinese: 'Congrats. You got your memory back. Give me $20.'
The fuming old guy pays him, and then comes back a week later determined to get back $100.
Old Guy: 'My eyesight has become very weak I can't see at all.'
Chinese: 'Well, I don't have any medicine for that, so take this $100.'
Old Guy (staring at the note): 'But this is $20, not $100!!'
Chinese: 'Congrats, your eyesight is restored. Give me $20'

  1. Wow, that was a big post to read. Thanks though. We got the same GPS and love it. So easy to program and for searching the nearest whatever you are looking for. I'm sure the more you use it, the more you'll like to use it. Have fun with it.

  2. Yay! Hope you can keep going with the old version, or the new one, or whatever it takes, as long as you don't end up banging your head on your desk. Thanks for your work.
