OH YA, NOW I REMEMBER

OUR SMALL FRONT YARD MAGNOLIA TREE IS IN BLOOM
No wind today made the day doable so outside we went to do the day.  Sitting at the computer here tonight it took me a awhile to remember where Pheebs and I had even gone this morning.  After scratching around through the cobwebs my brain took pity on me and gave me a clue.  You had a Burrito ya doorknob.  Oh ya, now I remember.  Gas at Goderich's Solo gas bar, coffee and a Burrito to go at McDonalds, big ship in the Goderich harbor loading salt, cloudy, a few rain spatters on the windshield, rolled through the little burg of Ben Miller, stopped for a short walk on Kitchigami Road and headed on home.  Yep, that was it alright.  And pretty darn exciting too that my challenged brain reminded me.  Sometimes I think my brain does not have a knowledgeable understanding of the word 'excitement!!

PHEEBS AND I CAME ACROSS A VERY YOUNG  AND BURGEONING MAYAPPLE PATCH THIS MORNING
FOREST FLOOR WILDFLOWERS
LOOKS LIKE 'LITTLE RED' MUST HAVE FOLLOWED US OUT TO THE FOREST
HOW'S ABOUT THEM WHISKERS EH
NEW FOREST GROWTH AMONG THE OLD
Two utility trailer loads of leaves and pine needles to the Park's recycling yard, changed a couple light bulbs in our outside lights, re-set all the timers after our power winked out again, did me a load of laundry, and after all that I was ready for my recliner.  Holy Smokes this getting old is really something eh.  Our temps topped out at 45F and with no wind or rain and that of course was a bonus.
MY FIRST OF TWO LOADS EARLY THIS AFTERNOON
NO FROGS IN OUR FROG POND YET
STANDING AT THE END OF OUR PARK'S NEW DEAD END ROAD
Pheebs woke me up around 4 letting me know we were about 2 hours past our afternoon walk.  Hard for me to get interested in a walk that late in the afternoon but doggy was insistent.  Walked down the Park's new dead-end road near us and back again.  If the road never does go anywhere that's Okay, just nice to have an alternate easy place to walk.
ONE OF OUR RHODODENDRONS IS IN BLOOM
WE DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF BLOSSOMS THESE ARE ON ANOTHER FRONT YARD TREE
OUR CORKSCREW PLANT BESIDE THE POND HAS BOTH LAST YEAR'S OLD LEAVES AND THIS YEAR'S NEW ONES JUST BUDDING
Because of the Covid thing Kelly decided to stay home for Mother's Day this year rather than going over to her daughter's in Cambridge.  Instead she slipped out to a place called the Hessenland Inn south of Bayfield on the Bluewater highway and picked up three pork schnitzel dinners.  Two for us and one for our neighbor Monica.  Hessenland was having a special Mother's Day curbside menu pick-up.
FEMALE CARDINAL IN A SOFT LIGHT
GROANER'S CORNER:(( There was a tribe in Africa which was very fierce and warring...they would battle all the tribes in the area, and they always won. As a victory trophy, they would take the throne of the chief of the defeated tribe and carry it home, chanting victory chants and singing the whole way. When they got home, they would put the throne in the attic of the grass hut. This went on for quite some time, and soon the throne collection grew, adding to the prestige of the tribe.  One day, they battled a tribe of fairly large people, some might call them giants. They won, and they struggled to get the throne home...but the chanting and joyfulness prevailed as usual. When they got home, they had the ritual of putting the throne in the attic of the grass hut, but the weight was too much. The ceiling collapsed, killing everyone on the tribe.  The moral: People who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones.

My kids love going to the Web, and they keep track of their passwords by writing them on Post-it notes. I noticed their Disney password was "MickeyMinnieGoofyPluto," and asked why it was so long.  "Because," my son explained, "they say it has to have at least four characters."

  1. Getting those squirrel whiskers in silhouette made for an interesting photograph. It seems like it always works like that, when an animal is made to look less like a thing and more like...what?... I'm not sure what word to use.

  2. Great decision Kelly. Please stay safe and Happy Mother's Day. Any magnolia is my favourite. Nice to see that you have one. I so miss my Vancouver rhododendrons. We had a corkscrew plant here in our first home, just across the road. You should cut some down in the fall for Kelly to use in her flower arrangements.

  4. It's so nice to see your pictures. The squirrel pix blows me away, beautiful!
We used to find morrels under the Mayapples but as kids we called them umbrella plants. I don't know what the morrels will be thinking this year!

  5. Great Pictures as always Al.
Like yourself it does get difficult to get motivated some days.
Wishing Kelly a Belated Happy Mothers Day.
I wonder how many Big Macs that car takes to a Mile?
Be Safe and Enjoy the gift of nature.

    It's about time.
