DARNED RIGHT I'M CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON SOUTH OF THE BORDER

THIS DRYDOCKED SAILBOAT'S STERN WILL SOON BE PROWLING THE DEEP WATERS OF LAKE HURON......NICE ARTWORK
It's a soft cold rain gonna fall and so it did for most of the morning.  It was a very drab and dreary landscape Pheebs and I wandered around in this morning.   Stayed off the muddy country roads.  Low clouds were almost on the deck in a few places.  Idle wind turbine blades were sometimes lost in the mist.  We didn't go far mainly concentrating our travels right in the small village of Bayfield itself.  Once a small fishing hamlet atop the bluffs of Lake Huron Bayfield still retains much of that old town feel.  And that's why we like it here with it's many summer sailing boats neatly docked at their prim little slips along Bayfield's River.
DEFINATELY A RAINY START TO OUR DAY
NO SIGN OF ANY SATURDAY MORNING WORKERS AT THE BAILEY BRIDGE SITE
THEY HAVE BEGUN GRADING THE SOUTHERN APPROACH TO THE BRIDGE
I don't know why it takes me so long to get my smarts organized sometimes but after walking into Bayfield's Foodland this morning I had to ask myself a question.  Why did I drive to a denser populated people area like Goderich early Friday morning not thinking about food line-ups?  Three cars this morning in Foodland's parking lot with maybe 5 people in the store.  Found every single item on my list and saw very few empty shelf spaces.  Nobody ahead or behind me at the check-out.  I've always considered myself a slow learner but I figure with this new red Foodland ribbon now tied tightly around my little finger I will be reminded of the best place to pick up my few grocery items now and again in these troubled times.  Two thumbs up for Bayfield's well stocked Foodland located at the outskirts of Bayfield's south end right on highway 21's west side.
FOODLAND'S WELL STOCKED SHELVES

BAYFIELD'S SHOP BIKE COFFEE ROASTERS  ON MAIN STREET ARE STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS AND WILL DELIVER
ON THIS DARK DRAB DAY I KEPT MY EYE OUT FOR SPLASHES OF COLOR AROUND THE HARBOR AREA
A FISHING BOAT OUT OF WATER FOR WINTER
WITH IT'S WOODEN TRIM, GREEN COLOR, AND FANCY DRAGON ON THE STERN I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST SAILBOARTS IN THE HARBOR
It would be a stretch to say there was any warmth in the air this morning but it was Okay to be out in our carport's storage area re-arranging things for summer.  We have a lot of RV stuff piled in there and the only real way to deal with that is to get another RV to put all that stuff back into.  It was nearly high noon when the Sun finally popped through the clouds bringing afternoon temps up to over 50F.  We're slowly getting there:))
LOOKING WEST IN OUR CARPORT'S STORAGE AREA AND YES I EVEN HAVE MUSIC IN THERE TOO
LOOKING EAST AND THAT IS ALL OUR RV STUFF ON THE RIGHT SO YOU CAN SEE WE DO NEED ANOTHER RV TO STORE THAT ALL IN
THESE VEHICLE CLEANING AND WAXING SUPPLIES SPENT WINTER IN OUR HOUSE AND NOW HAVE TO BE RETURNED TO THEIR OUTDOOR SUMMER CABINET
With the political madness going on south of the border (yes we have our political madness up here too) I have had to walk away from the television again.  Just too disturbing and upsetting to see what is going on.  I do not read any news on the internet because I don't trust it to be the truth.  Some may think we Canadians shouldn't be concerned about American politics but ya darned right we should.  With our two countries joined at the hip like we are we have every right to express our opinions and feelings.  As Canadians, through our educational system I would venture to say many of us know more about America than a number of Americans do.  We live in the same hemisphere with a very large unpredictable restless Elephant and when that big Elephant moves we in Canada had better take quick notice.  Having spent 13 happy adventuress winters in the Great American Southwest and having met and made many very good friends along the way I feel like America is my second home.  So just remember America, your concerns are our concerns and ya darned right I'm concerned about what's going on in your country.  Enough said...…………..
LOTS OF RAIN THIS MORNING AND MORE COMING OVERNIGHT INTO SUNDAY
GROANER'S CORNER:(( If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull. But that's not the worst of it.  My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.  My traction is not as graceful as it once was.  I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.  My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.  It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.  My fuel rate burns inefficiently.  But here's the worst of it, almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter.....either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires.------------------------------
My garden came up crooked. It's true what they say about the best laid plants.

  1. We have a small, local grocery store on the edge of the town closest to us. I much prefer to give them my custom these days too.

  2. Ya know what? You're a pretty good writer. Those first few sentences. Good. Of course I have commented before that your photos are. And as for the rest of the text, yes. As a native Texan, still living there (don't ask) I applaud your sentiments. Spot on.

  3. I have often commented on my Canadian friends blogs, yours included, that you need to be involved in or at least concerned with world politics because it can and will effect all of us in some way no matter which country your from.

  4. In these troubled times sometimes the only sane answer to take a break from the deluge of media beating us from all sides. We need to be informed but not immersed completely day after day, week after week. I think you are wise to step back and breathe slowly and deeply and move forward with things you can accomplish, taking a break from things you can't.
I loved the splashes of colour, some were very vibrant and I'm sure cheered the dull surroundings a great deal. I'm always curious about the thought behind some of the creative names on boats I've seen over the years. Thanks for the photos Al.
I like the little dust thing, very cute.

  5. Beautiful boats but I gather you've never been a boats man. The desert is your calling. I don't watch the news but I do read articles from the news agencies occasionally. I like just being away from it all in a warm climate. :))

  6. Al, I’ve been saying for years: “If you want the REAL story in regards to U.S. politics, ask a Canadian.” I learned more from two mechanics at a Canadian Tire during an oil change a number of years ago than I did in the preceding year at home. It’s eye opening.

  7. Those grocery store pics are like porn! Glad you're in good shape. We're one big mess. I'm grateful we have a home base to ride it out. Pretty boats!

  8. I have never felt Canadians did not care about us and America. We are family.

  10. Lovely colourful photos but I would have expected the boat "Summer Heat " to have more color.
