WISHED I WASN'T SO SUSCEPTIBLE TO GLOOMY WEATHER

It's true, I am extremely susceptible to weather and I wished I wasn't.  I've been in a funk for the past 4 days and it all had to do with cloudy cold rainy days.  I think maybe I have always been like that but it seems I am more aware of it in these latter years.  Hopelessly trapped by my own depression and crumpled in my recliner for hours this afternoon watching boring television it wasn't until a narrow shaft of sunlight slipped through one of our south facing living room windows that I suddenly leaped to my feet and made for the door.   On went my shoes.  On went my coat and hat, grabbed my camera and out the door Pheebs and I went lickety split.  Less than 5 minutes later I was standing at the counter of Bayfield's Subway Shop.  One 6 inch Tuna sub to go please with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers and onions followed by salt and pepper and sub sauce.  Out to the Jeep I go and with one arm holding Pheebs back I head for Pioneer Park where we sat overlooking Lake Huron.  Between the two of us we demolished that Sub pretty quick before climbing out of the Jeep for a little walk around and a few photos.
HERE'S PHEEBS COMING TO SEE WHAT I GOT FOR SUPPER
SHE IS TOTALLY FOCUSED ON THE SUB
'OKAY DAD LET'S GET THAT SUB UNWRAPPED'.....NOTICE IN THIS PHOTO THE SUN STREAMING IN ON OUR FACES AND SECONDS LATER THE SUN WAS GONE AS SEEN IN PHOTO BELOW
I don't know why or what it is about gloomy weather that just takes me to the ground and lays me low for days.  But it does and I am defenceless to stop it.  It's one of the things I have always disliked so much about winter and especially the month of November.  I'm sure there are lots of people out there unlike me who are on a perky level no matter what the weather is doing outside and I don't expect those folks to have a clue as to what I'm talking about here.  But I do know people much like myself who have this same problem.  Just not my nature to be one of those perky ones.
I THINK THAT VIEWING PLATFORM IS NEW
AND THEY HAVE DONE A NICE JOB WITH NEW FENCE POSTS AND CEDAR RAILS
THOSE STEPS LEAD ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BEACH
BAYFIELD'S HARBOR PIERS ARE AT TOP RIGHT
Unfortunately the few sunny breaks we had through the heavy cloud cover didn't last long and a couple hours later it was raining again.  Back to my crumply living room chair I went hoping if I fell asleep someone would tap me on the shoulder and wake me up on the first warm sunny day of Spring.
RED LEAVES WITHOUT SUN ON THEM AND BELOW WITH SUN ON THEM
AND YES THESE RED LEAVES WERE EVERY BIT AS RED AS THE PICTURE SHOWS
I THINK THIS IS PROBABLY EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE HOUSE IN BAYFIELD AND I KNOW IT IS MINE FOR SURE
DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE FENCE

GROANER'S CORNER:(( After 35 years of marriage, a husband and wife came for counseling. When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married.  On and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured.  Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and after asking the wife to stand, he embraced and kissed her long and passionately as her husband watched - with a raised eyebrow. The woman shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze. The therapist turned to the husband and said, 'This is what your wife needs at least 3 times a week. Can you do this?''Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I golf.'

  1. I sure wish you would try one of those lights people use for SAD light therapy. Its a real disorder and you might have it.

  2. What a neat chimney on that house. The sun makes us all feel happier, even those red tree leaves.

  3. Will you Please look up sun light deficiency It will very much explain part of your problem
Also I would guess you have a vitamin C deficiency sunlight produces vitamin C to our body
It certainly won't help your current mood but it'll tell you where you're getting it from

  5. Loved the photos of the house and the beautiful red leaves. Thank you for making the effort to get out with Miss Pheebs to take these for all of us.

  6. That new viewing platform looks inviting. Too bad they didn't build in some benches like they have on the stair landings. I, too, was going to suggest some bright light, and be sure and light up the dark corners of your room.

  7. At least you know what makes you depressed. Now you just need to find something you enjoy doing to occupy your mind. I know you enjoy reading and listening to music. Maybe those can keep you away from that depressing TV.

  9. I have lived my whole life with this seasonal affect disorder/SAD. Recently checked on those lamps for help - that's out, too expensive for my pocketbook. Oh, that beautiful home AND the fence, perfect 'Frosting for the Cake'. Best laugh I've had with therapist tale in long time. Much thanks for your so enjoyable blog, Al.

  10. Yep, I like the fence and the colored leaves. Things are still green here in East Texas.

  12. I hear you on the SAD, Al. I even felt it here in Florida today, as it was gloomy all day. Nothing better than sunshine!
