WE DROPPED AROUND TO SEE PHEEBS ALPACA PALS TODAY

MY SUNDAY AFTERNOON BACKYARD CAMPFIRE
Despite gray overcast skies Pheebs and I headed off up through Goderich northeast towards Dungannon Ontario.  We hadn't seen her Alpaca pals for awhile so that's where we headed.
'WANNA TRY SOME WEED KID'...….'NO, MY MOM SAID IT WOULD MAKE ME LOCO
NO IT'S NOT A TWO HEADED ALPACA....BUT THERE IS SOMETHING UNEXPLAINABLE ABOUT THIS PHOTO THOUGH
NEAR THE ALPACAS I SAW THIS SWAN IN A KIDDIES POOL
FROM THE COLORING AND MARKINGS ON IT'S BEAK I'M GUESSSING THIS TO MAYBE BE A WHOOPER SWAN
Had the Sun been out I may have been encouraged to head on over through Mennonite territory but with a biting cold east wind blowing it was our warm cozy sunroom beckoning me home to sit quietly beside our little fireplace and read for awhile.  Did manage a few photos on the way.
A LAZY MONDAY MORNING IN THE FARMYARD
I HAVEN'T A CLUE WHAT THIS FELLA WAS UP TO
TURKEY VULTURES IN A FIELD
I'LL BET THESE GALS ARE GLAD TO BE OUT OF WINTER'S BARN
Back home the only time I went outside was to clean up the carport where I had recently painted a few gate pieces and Bruce had sawed up a batch of wood for the project.
LOOK CLOSELY THERE IS A SQUIRREL STARING AT YOU IN THIS PHOTO
Okay so here's the status on the Squirrel Wars.  No Squirrels on the feeder platform yet BUT they are still getting up the pole.  I have an upside down plastic planter between the pole and the platform to keep them from twisting themselves from the pole up onto the platform.  Around the bottom of that planter are drainage holes and in the photo above you can see where I've duct taped a 'chewed out' drainage hole at the right but also notice the Squirrel itself already chewing away at a second drainage hole so he can get through it then pull himself up onto the platform.  In the photo below you can see where I have plugged that hole with a piece of wood and duct taped it into place.  We'll see how long it takes the Squirrel Gang to figure out my latest defence.
Cold rains were upon us before mid afternoon and that pretty much put the kybosh on my day.  At the time of publishing this our outside thermometer tells me we are at a cold and wet 33F.  Hoping for a slightly better day Tuesday,
GROANERS CORNER:(( An 85-year-old widow went on a blind date with a 90-year-old man. When she returned to her daughter's house later that night, she seemed upset. "What happened, Mother?" the daughter asked. "I had to slap his face three times!" "You mean he got fresh?" "No," she answered. "I thought he was dead!"

Many years ago, in the south pacific, there was a small island kingdom that was ruled by a kind and benevolent King. Each year, on the King's birthday, the residents of the island gave the King a new throne as token of their love and respect for him. And each year, the King would put last years gift up in the attic of his small grass house. After many years of ruling the island, the weight of the large number of birthday presents stored up in the attic became too heavy and caused the house to collapse down on the King. Moral to the story is: He who lives in grass house, shouldn't stow thrones.

  1. I am waging war on those pesky squirrels taking a free lunch at my bird feeder. So far the squirrels are winning. I see you are having a similar problem. I even plink them with a Daisy BB gun and that doesn't seem to bother them. They may run but will right back within a minute or two. And of course I always get a chuckle out of your Groaner's Corner.

  3. How about some car grease on that bucket and/or the pole?

  4. I put an upside down clay flower pot on a pole and set the birdseed feeder on top of that. The little claws couldn't get a grip on the flower pot so the seed was safe.

  6. What was that swan doing in the kiddie pool? Priceless photo. Those squirrels of yours are getting smarter every day.

  7. I think you need to make an obstacle course especially for those squirrels. I’d bet they’d be able to figure it out in no time. They’re pretty smart little critters. Start simple and make it more and more complicated as time goes on. If you look on YouTube, there are some wonderful examples. I giggle every time I watch one,

  8. Those squirrels are persistent! Lots of funny "squirrel obstacle course" videos on YouTube. PBS has a good YouTube video of a Squirrel Obstacle Course here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkmeZwsi3HA
