TODAY WE DID THE DESERT’S ADOBE DELI AND ‘OMG’ HOW DO I DESCRIBE THIS PLACE
OUT FOR AN AFTERNOON WALK PHEEBS STOPS TO WATCH TRAFFIC ROLLING BY ON I-10
This is my Tuesday January 8th post
So here we were at the end of a clear sky Monday with millions of stars overhead from mountain top to mountain top. But did I see them? Nope, I totally forgot to step outside and look up and by the time I remembered to do that earlier this morning the stars were totally obscured by clouds. I sure do get frustrated with this forgetful mind of mine sometimes. And to add insult to injury skies are now predicted to be cloudy for the next 3 days:((
A FEW PHOTOS AROUND THE PARK THIS MORNING WHILE DOING LAUNDRY
THIS BUILDING HOUSES A BEAUTIFUL HOME INSIDE, A LAUNDRY ROOM FOR GUESTS AND RESIDENTS PLUS A SHOWER, TV ROOM, READING ROOM, AND A LARGE GAMES ROOM WHICH ONCE HOUSED A MOTORHOME
THE NICE LAUNDRY ROOM IS THROUGH THAT WHITE DOOR AND TV ROOM IS TO THE RIGHT
REALLY NICE WASHROOM AND SHOWER
I’M GUESSING THERE ARE MAYBE A DOZEN RESIDENTS HERE FULL TIME AND IT IS THANKS TO THOSE FOLKS HELPING OUT THE AGING OWNERS THIS PARK IS SO WELL KEPT
PARK’S STORAGE AREA
WITH ALL THE TREES THERE ARE MANY BIRDS HERE INCLUDING SOME GREAT HORNED OWLS WHICH I WILL TRY TO GET SOME PICTURES OF
First things first this morning so days of laundry had priority. With cloudy skies overhead it’s always easier for doing domestic stuff like cleaning and laundry, etc.
THIS COZY READING ROOM IS ADJACENT TO THE LAUNDRY ROOM AT THE LEFT AND WOULD YOU BELIEVE I FORGOT TO TAKE A FEW PHOTOS OF THE LAUNDRY ROOM
Really nice laundry room and we had it all to ourselves. Kelly kept an eye on the laundry while I busied myself taking photos. In the meantime Kelly met a very nice camp host lady who looked a lot like my Aunt Jean and her name was Glenna.
KELLY WITH PARK HOST AND PERMANENT RESIDENT GLENNA WHO WITH HER HUSBAND HAS LIVED HERE 14 YEARS
THIS LARGE AREA WAS ORIGINALLY WHERE THE OWNERS PARKED THEIR RV….IT IS NOW AN EXERCISE AREA AND GAMES ROOM
THOSE WINDOWS LOOK INTO THE READING ROOM
FIRST TIME I’VE SEEN A POOL TABLE TOP WITH A CAMO TOP AND YOU CAN SEE KELLY THROUGH THE WINDOW IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM BEYOND
I ONLY TOOK ONE PHOTO INSIDE THE OWNERS RESIDENCE AND IT WAS OF THIS STAINED GLASS WINDOW
The elderly couple who own this well kept and cared for Park worked hard and built it up over the past 37 years or so. The man retired from the American Coast Guard and is now in failing health and that is why the Park is actually for sale. They built a really nice place for themselves here and Glenna showed us through their home. The owners spend most of their time in a condo they own in Deming. Their home’s interior is beautiful and quality built with Spanish architecture throughout. Here’s a bit of info on the Park written by the owners Waldon and Ellie Wolf, “This 23 acre location has been our home since 1981 when we moved from California via Arizona to Deming NM. Waldon is a former UPS driver and is retired from the United States Coast Guard. Ellie is a retired special education teacher”.
THAT’S US OUT THERE LEFT OF CENTER
SOME FOLKS HAVE BEEN HERE AWHILE
PATHWAYS THROUGH THE TREES
IMAGINE MY SURPRISE AT SEEING A ROBIN ALONG THE PATH
PARK’S FRONT GATE AND BELOW THE VIEW FROM THAT GATE AREA
LARGE STORAGE AREA WITH THE OWNERS RV INSIDE AND THAT SMALLER BUILDING IS THE OFFICE
KELLY OPENS THE PARK’S GATE
With laundry done we all piled into the Jeep and headed on down the road about 2 miles to a rather uniquely quaint and rustic eatery and bar called the Adobe Deli. Clint Eastwood and Sylvester Stone are just two of the celebrities who have been here over the years. So you would think it would be pretty fancy schmancy place eh, but nope it isn’t and you have to see this place to believe it. This is the southwest culture we so much love. Some might walk in the door and walk right back out again. I’ll try and explain this place through my photos but I’ll give you a hint. Think of an old, dusty, kinda haunted and darkly tattered flea market and you will be in the ball park.
SOON AS WE GOT THERE AND FOUND THE ENTRANCE WE KNEW THIS WAS OUR KINDA PLACE
TAKING PHOTOS OF EACH OTHER
I had to lighten many of my interior photos simply because the main eating and bar area were very dark which was fine with me because i kinda like that old ghostly atmosphere and this place sure had lots of that in spades. Reminded me a bit of the Birdcage Theatre in Tombstone Arizona. Because I took so many photos I am only including the ones from the main eating and bar area in tonight’s post. Tomorrow I hope to include the rest of what we saw there.
KEEP IN MIND IT WAS ACTUALLY MUCH DARKER IN THIS PLACE THAN WHAT THESE PHOTOS DEPICT AND IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE KELLY SEATED FACING THE AMAZING OLD BAR
ALL THE TABLE TOPS WERE SHEATHED IN COPPER
THE WHOLE TOP OF THE BAR WAS SHEATHED IN COPPER AS WELL
CHECK OUT THE OLD AND TATTERED WELL USED BAR STOOLS
AND THE FOOT REST IN FRONT OF THE BAR IS AN IRON RAIL FROM A SECTION OF RAILROAD TRACKS SOMEWHERE AND IF YOU LOOK VERY CLOSELY AT THE RIGHT PHOTO YOU CAN SEE OUR WAITRESS BEHIND THE BAR
WE HAD US A COUPLE BIG BURGS
KELLY ALSO HAD A BOWL OF FRENCH ONION SOUP WHICH SHE SHARED WITH ME BY SPOONING SOME INTO MY EMPTY COFFEE CUP
Our waitress told us actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael B Jordan dropped in while filming scenes in the Deming area for Stallone’s Creed II about his ongoing Rocky Balboa series. She said Stallone and Jordan mingled with the patrons and played pool. She said Sylvester Stallone was very down to earth but Jordan was a little ‘uppity’.
KELLY AND I WERE THE ONLY ONES THERE AND HERE OUR WAITRESS TELLS US ABOUT A FEW OF THE CELEBRITIES THAT HAVE BEEN HERE
THE POOL TABLE WHERE STALLONE AND JORDAN PLAYED A FEW GAMES OF POOL AND YOU CAN SEE KELLY TO THE LEFT TAKING A FEW PICS OF THE BAR WITH HER SMART PHONE
I’LL BET THIS PLACE GETS PRETTY WILD SOME NIGHTS
AND YES THEY EVEN HAVE A STUFFED ALLIGATOR IN THERE TOO
HEY AND THERE’S EVEN SOMEONE IN A PHONE BOOTH AND DON’T LET THAT GATOR BOTHER YA
AGAIN, KEEP IN MIND IT WAS WAAAAAY DARKER IN HERE THAN WHAT THIS PHOTO SHOWS
HANGING FROM THE CEILING OF THE ROOM IS THIS TRAFFIC LIGHT WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL TRAFFIC LIGHT IN DEMING AND THE BIG AMERICAN FLAG ONCE FLEW ON DEMING’S TOWN HALL….ALSO WHEN FOOD ORDERS ARE READY THE COOK CAN TRIGGER THIS TRAFFIC LIGHT ALERTING WAITERS ON THE FLOOR A FOOD ORDER IS READY
From the Adobe Deli we returned to the rig. Could see blue sky on the horizon and luckily by late afternoon much of our overhead cloud cast had broken up. From my recliner I had a nice view of the western horizon out our drivers side window until…….a car and travel trailer pulled into the site beside us Monday afternoon abruptly ending my view.
LOOKS LIKE A DESERT DUCK TO ME
GROANER’S CORNER:(( A 92 year-old man went to the Doctor to get a physical. A few days later the Dr. saw the man walking down the street with a gorgeous young lady on his arm. A couple of days later the Dr. talked to the man and said, "You're really doing great, aren't you? "The man replied, "Just doing what you said Doctor, 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful. "The Doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said you got a heart murmur. Be careful."

In the HR department in the large corporation where I work, I receive absentee slips for all the employees.Over the years I’ve heard every excuse, but the other day I found one in my voicemail that I never heard before.“I won’t be in today,” said my absent co-worker. “I’ll call back later with an excuse.”

Ohhhhhh AL, I thought that was you with Malania!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding picture of the Donald, complete with a Sambuca poster...."There is No Collusion" !
ReplyDeleteThe Adobe Deli is quite the incredible place. Going to have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gem of a campground looks perfect and that Adobe Deli a real hidden treasure, Both places we would enjoy. The Museum in Deming is worth a tour if you have not been there.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a neat place.
ReplyDeleteAl, I enjoy your blog but I think that was a total cheap shot at "donald and malania". No matter what your politics are, the President and First lady deserve better than that.

DeleteYour right about that political thing Bob and I have removed my captions and ST, my friend Jim is not a creep. You need to take a step back like I just had to do and re-focus your priorities on the higher ground ahead. It's a slippery slope my friend and we including myself do not need to make it any slipperier out here by antagonizing each other.
DeleteI too have removed my post. Sorry about the "creep" comment I posted about Jim. I used to enjoy his blog until he became obsessed with our President. It's hard enough listening to and reading all the negativity coming from within our country. I have stopped reading Jim's Lifetime Sentences blog due to the nasty comments about our president. I'm happy we have a president that is finally putting our country and its citizens first. He's not perfect, he's certainly not a smooth talker and someone should seriously delete his twitter account. The last president was a smooth talker but he lacked substance. He was and still is all talk. Take Care:)
DeleteI absolutely love Jim's Lifetime Sentences and applaud his great and humorous posts and comments.I'm guessing the owner of Adobe Deli has a better sense of humor than ST.A blog opens up a dialog of both negative and positive comments and the opportunity to either comment or discontinue reading a blog that you don't agree with.
DeleteInteresting place. That was a lot of booze and a lot of bottles.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Al.
RIGHT ON!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Adobe Deli is such an interesting place with great food. Bill and Jodee introduced us to this quirky stop. Glad they were along because we may not have ventured in otherwise, but so glad we stopped. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the honest response Al, safe travels to you and Kelly.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it to the Adobe!! Once you don't pass it by when you first see it, it becomes a wonderful place to eat and just "look". You got great pics of that very fun place!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic deli. What a find. Sure wish I was there.
ReplyDeleteHey Doug it's right on your way out here if you can get yourself away.
ReplyDeleteThat is one interesting place!
ReplyDeleteInteresting Place and we loved it as well.
ReplyDeleteYou could have ordered a single Ruben Sandwich that would have filled the Three of you.
Did they ever fix the hole in the Wall? We could see the mountains through it.
Be Safe and Enjoy Deming!
It's about time.
