A FROSTY START TO OUR FLORIDA MORNING
Under clear sunny skies we rolled out of our Bass Pro Shop location in Gainesville Florida about 7:30 this morning. I-75 was already roaring about a quarter mile away but once we cleared the city it quieted right down and more or less stayed that way.
WAS RELIEVED TO SEE I-75 QUIET RIGHT DOWN AFTER LEAVING CENTRAL FLORIDA
North of Valdosta Florida we exited I-75 at a town called Tifton and headed off in a northwesterly direction following highway 82. Just wanted to get off the demolition derby stock car track for awhile and see some relaxing back road scenery for a change. And back roads scenery we did see. I really liked the Georgia and Alabama countryside with it’s forests, green fields, early blooming Spring flowers, quaint little towns and winding roads. Reminded me a lot of our area back home in Huron County.
SO NICE BEING ON QUIET RURAL ROADS WITH VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC AGAIN
CROSSING EUFAULA LAKE ALABAMA
MOTORING THROUGH EUFAULA ALABAMA
A SNOOZY LITTLE DOGGY FACE AS WE MOTOR ALONG THROUGH ALABAMA’S ROLLING HILLS
‘AW COME ON DAD LET ME DRIVE WILL YA HUH’
We’ve only ever bounced off the southern end of Alabama a couple times so figured we’d kinda slide up through the middle and have a look see at an area we had never been before.
A FEW OLD BUILDINGS ALONG THE WAY
Our goal for the day was Montgomery Alabama and with no big rush going on we finally rolled into town around 4. It was Friday afternoon, traffic was heavy, and we kinda got ourselves dis-ka-booberated for awhile trying to figure out just where we were and where it was we really wanted to go. A Cracker Barrel finally appeared out of the confusion north of Montgomery on I-65. We wheeled the Big E in and shut things down for the night. Hauled ourselves into CB and plopped us down on a couple chairs for supper. Half an hour later we were back in the rig and that was it for the day. We’ll head North up I-65 in the morning and see where that takes us.
DUE TO A TEMPORARY TIME ZONE CHANGE WE THANKFULLY GOT TO CRACKER BARREL BEFORE THE LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON CROWD DID

Men are like a pack of Cards:
A "heart" to love them
A "diamond" to marry them
A "club" to smack them and
A "spade" to bury the body...

I got a new pair of gloves today, but they're both 'lefts' Which, on the one hand is great, but on the other it's just not right.
- Q: What did the teddy bear say when it was offered some birthday cake? A: No thanks, I'm stuffed.
=====================
These rural road pictures of the highway 82 are just beautiful. Driving along those roads beat any Interstate travel. You are right, it looks like back home. Have a safe trip to Bayfield.
ReplyDeleteWe, too, love the "back roads." But I am always a bit nervous about what we would do if we had mechanical problems or a flat tire on one of those without a shoulder. Glad you had an easy place to pull over yesterday with your flat!
ReplyDeleteSo funny, I was thinking the the same thing the Best dawg in the world was thinking....Time for me at the wheel dad...Take a break and a snooze...
ReplyDeleteGlad you got off the interstate. I think you'll like Alabama. Wonder where you'll end up next.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Florida is so crowded. Such a pretty state. Here I thought it was hot down there and then you're waking up to frost. What's going on?
Love the back roads of Alabama and Georgia, actually all the southern states, such a laid back way of life. Keep enjoying the new sights.
ReplyDeleteWe just love cruising along those back roads too. Taking our time and winding along just waiting to see what's around the next curve in the road.
ReplyDeleteWe love Mississippi,Alabama and Louisiana..It's a totally different way of life down there...and the moss dripping trees are lovely.
ReplyDeleteBirmingham has a steel mill you can tour. Huntsville has a great NASA museum which has the only standing Saturn V and the giant engine run stand. Largest rocket engine test stand on Earth. It is the best of the NASA sites to visit.
ReplyDeleteAs you head north in Alabama you will be entering my summertime home area of Decatur. There are lots of nice backroads in that part of the country for my summer roaming adventures.
ReplyDeleteSweet Alabama. My mom was born in Jasper. It is a lovely state.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy reading your blog and seeing your beautiful photos. Hope you have a safe journey back North. Which leads me to a question I have wondered about. Photos of Kelly enroute seem to show her not wearing a seatbelt. Please tell me this isn't true!
