STANTON ARIZONA
The writing bug just didn’t bite me today so all’s I have are a few pics from Saturdays drive around the RV Gold Mining area of Stanton Arizona.
I THINK IT’S FAIR TO SAY ALL THESE RV’S IN STANTON ARE INVOLVED WITH GOLD PROSPECTING
IT’S A ROUGH & TUMBLE LANDSCAPE IN THESE HERE PARTS
GUESSING THIS MIGHT BE THE NAME OF AN OLD MINING COMPANY
LOTS OF PRIVATE MINING SITES SCATTERED ABOUT
A SUBSTANTIAL BUILDING AT ONE TIME BUT LONG AGO LOST
MANY PRIVATE MINING SITES STAKED OUT IN THIS AREA
ON THIS MOUNTAINSIDE I SPOTTED THE TAILINGS FROM 5 MINE SHAFTS & BELOW ARE THOSE FIVE MINES AS SEEN THROUGH MY TELEPHOTO LENS
ALWAYS AMAZES ME HOW THOSE OLD MINERS WORKED DAY AFTER DAY IN THIS HARD & HARSH UNFORGIVING ENVIRONMENT
Thought this You Tube was cool. An 80 Year Old Man Walks Into A Guitar Store
TONIGHT’S MOON FROM OUR FRONT PORCH
GROANER’S CORNER:(( When doing my para training with British Airborne we did our first two descents from 800 ft from a static Barrage-balloon with a cage suspended below,(the other six jumps from aircraft). Standing in the door of the cage with no sound except the gentle breeze blowing past and a very long way down, a recruit was heard to ask the R.A.F. Dispatcher, "If the parachute doesn't open, how long will it take me to hit the ground from 800 ft? The dispatcher calmly remarked, "You'll be about halfway through The Lord's Prayer".
Al how do you get the link to work to hear the 80 yr old man play the guitar
ReplyDeleteI just tried it Kathy & the link worked OK. You might have to give it a few more seconds to load........
DeleteHey think you guys took us there for a tour very interesting place.
ReplyDeleteLoved the tours we did there!
First of all congratulations Al. I just read on your side bar the following " As of July 2015 According to Google Analytics the Bayfield Bunch Blog has now passed 4 million page views & as of February 20th 2016 AL has written & published over 2,900 posts. I love pictures of old mines. You gave captured some great ones there.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed Air compressor picture, mighty rusted out, yet rubber kinda intact. Appears to be a big flat head inline six gas engine used to drive compressor.
ReplyDeleteOctave is an old mining town, had a post office from 1900 to 1942. There was also and Octave Mining Co. Check out ghost towns of AZ. All the buildings but one were torn down to save on taxes.
ReplyDeleteAl,you need to buy a gold mine claim with the profits from your house. You like digging in the dirt.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of there being so much old mining history down there.
ReplyDeleteI'm always surprised at the number of individual miners still working claims! Great pics of the old tailings, and the rocky slopes. Congrats on reaching 4M!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if those modern miners are making any money or is this just a hobby?
