APPROACHING FLAGSTAFF ARIZONA FROM THE NORTH THIS MORNING
Winds kicked up in the night rattling Kelly’s bedroom awning so bad she was up at 2 closing her slide. She was up again at 4 & our day began on the early side. Pheebs gets so excited when one of us wakes up & this morning was no exception. Soon as she heard Kelly stirring she bounded up onto my bed with her wagging tail almost knocking me right out the other side. We always then have us a big happy tussle & our day was once again off to a rousing start.
THAT CLOUD BANK TOTALLY OBSCURED THE SAN FRANCISCO PEAKS TO THE RIGHT OF THE HIGHWAY
Looking at my computer’s weather map I see we just made it to Arizona in time. Rain & possible snow closing in on some of the areas we just traveled through these past number of days. Dropping temps & possible rain for Congress Wednesday but that’s Okay because we plan to simply de-stress for a few days letting our 3 time zone jet-lag induced travels simply drain away before we are on to our next phase of winter activities whatever they may be.
MAKING OUR WAY THROUGH FLAGSTAFF
HORSE SCULPTURE SEEN AT A ROUND-ABOUT IN THE CHINO VALLEY
With the first crack of dawn we rolled out of Cameron Arizona heading south on highway 180. Had an East wind knocking on my driver’s door but it wasn’t much of a problem. We could see darkening skies on the horizon towards Flagstaff & the San Francisco Peaks were totally obscured in dark storm clouds. Figured it was probably snowing up there & by the time we reached Flagstaff we were into rain & fine sleet for a short time. West of Flagstaff we drove out of it & had mostly clouds the rest of our way to Congress where we later had a few light showers.
ROLLING THROUGH THE CHINO VALLEY TOWARDS PRESCOTT AZ
CRUISING ALONG IRON SPRINGS ROAD TOWARDS CONGRESS AZ
COMING INTO A LITTLE BLINK OF A PLACE CALLED SKULL VALLEY
APPROACHING YARNELL
Have to admit it was so nice knowing we had a ‘sticks n bricks’ destination ahead of us after a long tiring journey. Lengthy hot showers, comfy recliners, TV, internet, & lotsa-lotsa space. We arrived shortly before noon & even before going into the house we just took a long walk around our property looking at everything. The yard was in great shape with hardly a weed visible anywhere. Big change from a couple years ago. The property looked great just as we had left it & I was so pleased most of my Cactus plants are doing so well, even some of my Joshua Trees. And my new flower beds were all still basically intact but boy oh boy did the Pack Rats ever make a mess in our shed again. Big clean-up ahead…………
WE BEGIN OUR DECENT OF SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET DOWN THE BREATH TAKING YARNELL HILL INTO CONGRESS LOCATED IN THE SONORAN DESERT BELOW
When we stepped into the house it was like stepping back in time to the end of last March when we closed everything up. Things were exactly as we had left them. No surprises & what a huge relief that was. We are both so weary from our travels it’s for sure going to take us a few days to get our heads back on straight again. But oooohhhhh how nice it is to finally be here:))
OUT BY THE ROAD MATT FROM THE ‘CONGRESS WATER DEPARTMENT’ TURNS ON OUR WATER

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Adults are always asking little kids what they want to be when they grow up because they’re looking for ideas.
Congratulations on another safe trip.
ReplyDeleteI see you got a couple of pics of that defunct dairy at the bottom of Yarnell hill. Is it back in business? I 'm glad you reached in your destination with only a scare or two. Enjoy Arizona.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you made it to your destination safely. Now you can take some time to relax before you start your next adventure.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Sure is nice when your timing work out that you miss all the bad weather. Those windows come and go, and it sure feels good when it all works out. Love all your pictures along the trip...
ReplyDeleteHappy you made it safely, if not too quickly. Remember this post when you get antsy and want to sell the Casa again. The snowbird life is a good life, it is our life.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the happy dance for you!
ReplyDeleteHappy to see you made it safely and without any further incidents. Have really enjoyed following your trip and will continue to do so. Relax and catch your breath and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet Libby is excited to get her tires out on those Arizona back roads!
ReplyDeleteGotta love it back to the southwest. We like to tour a but and relax a bit, with no sticks and bricks we are quite comfortable doing that.
ReplyDeleteJust kinda laid back.
It has been a great journey following your trip south. Thank you for taking us along for the ride! Enjoy your paradise in Congress, it looks very inviting. We have yet no idea what will appeal to us after a few years of travelling. Will we find a site to stay put or keep on movin'......it will be fun to find out!
ReplyDeleteWelcome "home"
ReplyDeleteYou tell such a good story it's almost as if i've just arrived there myself!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found everything to your liking on your arrival "home". Great story and pictures, as usual.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Home!!!! Makes me a little homesick. Glad you missed the snow in Flagstaff.
ReplyDeleteWe are taking a little rest too. Spending three weeks at Jojoba SKP park, then will head down to San Diego for about six weeks doing holiday and family things. We try to travel fairly slowly, staying several days to a week whereever we stop, but in Late October we did a few overnighters. Very tiring! But I am already looking forward to a looong trip next year!
ReplyDeleteGlad your long drive is over and that the house and yard are in great shape. That will be nice - just relax and enjoy. You'll get to the shed when you're ready. I love your place, I'd buy it if I could! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you beat the weather back to Congress. Those dark clouds were crazy looking! Hope your pack rat didn't do too much damage :-(. Welcome back to the Southwest!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you made it to Congress without too much trouble. It will be nice to kick back for a few days and enjoy your house and location. Yet, it could make it even harder for you to put the place up for sale.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the pack rats. Those rascals. Your house and yard look just wonderful. Relax and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe heard today that Flagstaff got an unexpected 4" of snow today, and that usually doesn't happen until end or November...Glad the EEE has landed..Now just kick back and enjoy
