BY GOLLY WE GOT OURSELVES A ‘CRITTER CAM’ TODAY

JEEP ROADS JUST GO FOREVER HERE IN THE DESERTS OF THE SOUTH WEST

With Kelly’s ankle a bit swollen & still feeling sore we pretty much scrapped our morning walk.  I got right into my yard work before Arizona’s morning sun got into our back yard & got too hot.  I have two thirds of the yard raked, picked up, & wheel barrowed to a brush pile.

John & little Turk from JUST FINDING OUR WAY rolled in with his truck & Scamp Fifth Wheel about 10.  They were heading back to Mesa after having a great relaxing & quiet time boondocking at the end of Ghost Town Road near the Cemeteries.  Folks living in big cities need those quiet times.  So nice to see how well Pheebs & Turk got along.  John said Peebs is basically the first dog Turk has taken too after nearly dying from a vicious mauling by a Bull Mastiff dog.  Three major surgeries saved Turk’s life.  The story & Turks fight for life is on John’s blog.  We all had us a nice chat about quite a few technical things.  I’m sure John’s blog is a wealth of information for RV’ers needing ‘how to’ answers.  A likeable fellow with a cutie patootie little dog:))

JOHN, PHEEBS & TURK:))

After seeing Mike McFall’s critter cam a year ago I had it in the back of my mind to pick one up some day.  Just needed a good reason to justify the expense.  That ‘good reason’ showed up in the way of critters under, around, & over our house this past couple of weeks.  Checked some on-line sites for cams & then remembered Wickenburg’s new TSC store.  Kelly phoned them & yep, they got Critter Cams.

HOPING THIS CRITTER CAM WILL SHOW US WHAT KIND OF VARMINTS WE AE DEALING WITH

WE HOPE THIS NEW HEATER WILL DO A GOOD JOB IN KEEPING US WARM THIS WINTER >>>

Needed groceries anyway plus our new winter heater was in at Alco.  First stop this morning was Alco for the heater, second stop Safeway for groceraries, & then a short distance over to the new TSC store.  Nice store for sure.  Grabbed ourselves a Wildgame Innovations W6GS Infrared Digital Scouting Cam.  We were back home again before 12:30.

Continued with my yard clean up while Kelly worked on my Blog’s font problem.  I tried to figure out the Critter Cam but my thick head rebelled.  At least I got the batteries & SD card in correct.  Also understood how to download pics from the cam into my computer.  Kelly worked away on figuring out how to set it up & get it in Critter mode.  We have the cam set up outside at the moment aimed directly at that gaping hole under our foundation.  I may or I may not have some Critter pics tomorrow night.  Stay tuned.

WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THE HOUSE IN MARCH OF 2012 THIS NOW CLEARED AREA WAS KNEE DEEP IN WEEDS

Neighbor Matthew the Sheep fellow dropped over saying he had more Cactus for me if I wanted them.  Well yes I did want them alright so slipped over to his place & loaded up the Jeep.  Said he will have more for me shortly.  Excellent:))  I just figure if I can plant more Cactus than the Rabbits & Pack Rats can eat I just might get ahead of the game someday.  And if all else fails it is good physical & mental exercise for me getting those greenies in the ground.  I have a picture in my mind of how I would like this place to look in a few years just as I had a mental image of how I wanted our Bayfield place to look years ago as well.  The Bayfield idea worked & we are surrounded by greenery there.  I have the same plan for our Congress Adobe digs as well.

I’LL GET THESE GUYS IN THE GROUND SATURDAY

Been having quite a time trying to straighten out this font color issue.  Why my font color changed in the first place I have no idea.  All my efforts were concentrated on trying to get the normal color back using Live Writer.  No go.  Had myself an ‘AHA’ moment this morning when I remembered the font color change has to be done using the Blogger Dashboard.  Everything went fine except for one thing.  Found my old color alright but no matter what we tried it would not save the color & every time I opened Live Writer it defaulted to yellow.  Anyway, Kelly using Live Writer, customized this font color which I think will work.  It doesn’t default itself so I have to remember to choose this custom color every time I open Live Writer.  Oh well, at least we are away from the ‘neon’ colors & back to something closely resembling my old text color.  If this color doesn’t work let me know.  Too light, too dark, too neony, too eye shattering, or is it Okay the way it is????  And why when I copied & paste Groaner’s Corner & my tag line they come out yellow now I have no idea:(((((((

you will know for sure what you are dealing with.

  2. I think a person would have to really love cactus to live in that part of the country. That stuff is everywhere! The cleared area of your yard looks great.

  3. Nice yard you have there, looks open and well kept. If all those Prickly Pear grow, you will have a forest soon.
That critter cam seems like the perfect Al toy, hope it captures evidence of Little Foot the myth who wonders the South West.

    Kinda miss the ZESTY colors.

  4. Al, I wonder what your neighbours are talking about between themselves when it comes to your love of cactus. I know that locals see cactus as a weed which should not be cultivated. They are basically undesirable for farmers and cattle owners. Of course, we know you have a different approach to that. Hopefully the critters will leave them in peace now, when they are going to be on "candid" camera.

  5. Can't wait to see some pics on your critter cam, it will be interesting to see who roams there at night.
You are right about Slab City, a sure is a place like no other for sure.

  6. I've used several game cameras over the past few years... don't know if you got the metal box to house it... along with the cable lock... but they both are invaluable when it comes to critters (both human and animal) attacking or trying to make off with it. Stolen or busted cameras are expensive to replace. Hope you have as much fun using it as I have using ours...

  9. Me too! Looking forward to the critter pics. Should show the nibblers. I need one for the kitchen. Well maybe not, I suspect it is Craig.

  10. Al,
Had to read the blog post today from the blog. Most of the post on the blog reader was too faint (yellowish colot) to see.....but it looked good on the actual blog page.

  11. Looking forward to the critter cam pics. Your beautiful photos are making us very homesick for the Southwest. Live Writer does very strange things for me that I could not even edit on Blogger dashboard, like different font sizes in one paragraph out of many! Your colors read good.

  12. Glad Turk made friends with Pheebs. If anyone could help a scared little dog, it would be Pheebs.

  13. Love the photo of Kelly, behind the camera!

You go Turk! My heart is sad, because you had this happen to you! You look happy now and thanks to your Dad for letting you have the needed surges!

    Beautiful cactus photos.

  15. Now that was a perfect blog post! Thanks for so many cactus photos:) I found myself smiling as I slowly drooled through them. Someday I will have a yard filled with every type cactus. Now all you need to do is find me a crested wonder!!

    Hope Kelly's ankle mends quickly:)

Love the pictures of Pheebs and her new pal.

  16. Just so you know ... The text on your web/blog page that appears to be light yellow on this end, translates as almost invisible on my end. The white text at the bottom of the page translates perfectly. I expect the following will turn you off. I use the linux operating system with liferea as my blog reader. I doubt if the problem is on my end though.
