PLOP, PLOP, FIZZ, FIZZ, OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS

DSC_7684

Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is. No, not referring to the old Alka-Seltzer ad here but the key word is ‘relief’. Talking about the much cooler air that has moved in to our area & pushed out all that miserable gumbo like humidity.

Kelly's car went in this morning to have it's A/C problem fixed.  A needed part had just arrived Wednesday.  Later this morning the garage called saying, after checking the problem out closer they were once again back to their original estimate in that the problem was more than just replacing the coil. A closer inspection had revealed further problems with the A/C & they didn’t want to go any further without talking to us.  We told them not to go ahead with the work. We just didn't want to sink $700+ into an A/C repair. We are halfway through the summer & a month from now the air will begin to change bringing constantly cooler days & nights. Car is 10 years old & is not used every day anymore so we just could not justify spending that kind of money for that kind of repair. If we were living in Florida where humidity is even consistently worse than here we might have been forced to make a different decision.  Picked up the Santa Fe later & the garage did not charge us anything.

WE DO LIKE LIVING JUST A MILE OR SO FROM THE 3RD LARGEST FRESH WATER LAKE IN THE WORLD

Years ago I had dug in an electrical cord across our driveway to run a small yard light. Of course I completely forgot where exactly I had dug that line in. The Stump removal guy Thursday had no problem finding that buried cord for me. This morning I spent time repairing the electrical cord & digging in a new route for it back across our driveway again. Because of all my gardening & planting of trees & shrubs years ago I probably hold the record for the number of times a resident in our Park has severed a cable TV line to their house. Our cable company was always really good at sending out a repairman & we were never billed for any of my rather randomly rambunctious shenanigans with my notorious round mouth cable cutting shovel.

Gaelyn took some time off from her busy summer Ranger job at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to return to Yarnell a few days ago.  It was a return to ashes & new hope.  You can read her feelings & see her photos at GEOGYPSY.

In the morning I am off to Stratford Ontario to pick up one of my 2 best Buddies.  Now that his Son has his driver’s license, Dad’s car has suddenly somehow become kind of inaccessible most days.  Jim & I will head off to a Tim Horton’s coffee shop whereupon we will likely spend about 4 hours once again solving all the world’s worst woes.  I have written about my best friend & our lengthy manic Magpie coffee blow-outs before so some readers may remember.  Looks like it’s going to be nice weather for a scenic country road drive all the way there & back again too.  I’d take the Motorcycle but I don’t think I have enough bungee cords to lash Jim down on the back of the bike.

NICE WAY TO SPEND THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Again tonight a video & this time by the BBC’s David Attenborough. You might want to see this & listen to the narration on IT'S A WONDERFUL WORLD. DSC_8010

Can't say enough great things about our welcome cooler weather today. Just makes all the difference in the world.  Nicer walks with the Pheebs with less biting insects in the cooler air.  Also cool enough tonight to maybe put a light sweater on.  I like that.  Some days are just down right better than others…………………………

  1. My friend is on his way to Stratford to visit his family. I am sure he will be happy with the cool dry weather. He is in Michigan today and called me. I said "I never knew you were Canadian, but should have guessed since you are a hyper hard worker and thin". He replied he knew I was an American since I was fat and unmotivated. It is good to have a best friend like that.

  2. So do you expect the cooler weather to last through what's left of summer? Don't turn off the heat yet - I may be in Canada in about a month, and while I don't want extreme heat I hope it isn't cold. Taking along warm clothes to be on the safe side.

  4. Somehow a family of mice invaded the air conditioner of our van. The dashboard and steering wheel had to be removed. It cost us $1,400 to evict them!!

  5. Beautiful pictures of the water and boats tonight! The sailboats in the first picture are especially pretty! Do you ever go out on the water? Sure am glad you are having some relief from the hot and the humidity.

  6. I'd rather be cool than hot. I worry a bit about unplesant weather as we travel since I have lived in the most perfect, bug free climate for the last 30 years, but travel I will.

  8. Of course the stump guy found your electric cord, just a small bonus :)

Too bad you don't tow Kelly's car down to Arizona, there is a great place in Parker that would fix it for cheap!
