AND THEN I CLOSED THE CUPBOARD DOOR

DSC_0001

WELL, WELL, AND JUST WHAT DID THE FEDEX MAN BRING TODAY

I was again reminded of my age this morning while in the kitchen preparing to make myself some porridge.  Half fill the pot with water, place on the stove, & turn on a small burner to bring the water to a boil.  Opened the cupboard door, pulled out the Quaker Oats & dumped some in the water.  Closed the cupboard door.  Opened the cupboard door to get out a new bag of brown sugar.  Closed the cupboard door.  Opened it again to put the oatmeal back.  Turned around & opened the silverware drawer to get a pair of scissors to cut a corner off the sugar bag.  Back to the stove & stirred some oatmeal.  Opened the cupboard door & lifted down my sugar bowl to replenish it.  Closed the cupboard door.  Turned around & retrieved a cereal bowl from the other side of the kitchen, brought it back & set it on the counter beside the stove.  Stirred some oatmeal.  Noticed the scissors lying on the counter & knew that was not the place for the scissors, so I returned them to the silverware drawer.  Back to the other counter & took the lid off my sugar bowl to pour some sugar in from the new package.  The new package was not open yet.  I needed a scissors for that & returned to the silverware drawer to get the scissors out…..again.  Stirred some oatmeal.  Cut open the sugar package & poured some sugar into my sugar bowl.  Put the bowl back in the cupboard & closed the door.  Sealed up the new sugar bag & put that in a different cupboard.  Returned the scissors to the silverware drawer, turned around & stirred my oatmeal.  I was going to need a spoon for the sugar bowl so it was back to the silverware drawer.  Back to the other counter & opened the cupboard door to get the sugar bowl out.  Closed the cupboard door.  Porridge was done so I turned the burner off, scooped the porridge from the pot into my cereal bowl & headed for the dining room.  Just got myself seated when I realized I had forgot the milk.  Back to the kitchen for milk & closed the cupboard door I had left open.  Even remembered to close the refrigerator door.  And, was anyone keeping count on how many times I closed that cupboard door…………me neither:((  Welcome to my routinely un-multitaskable morning……….

Thursday night into Friday morning was the annual Geminid meteorite shower & despite slipping out late Thursday night & Friday morning before dawn, I didn’t see any meteors.  We had a high wispy cloud cover which turned into heavy cloud cover as the morning progressed.  Maybe next time.

I HAVE BUCKETS OUT TO CATCH SOME RAIN WATER

Uneventful day as I worked away at completing some more fencing with the rails & posts Kelly had brought home Wednesday.  Soon as we get a couple more dollars saved up we’ll buy some more posts & rails & eventually we’ll have that little project behind us.  It’s not quite half done yet.

STORMY ARIZONA SKIES

Kelly slipped into Wickenburg to check out some electric heaters on sale while Pheebs & built us nice little fire in the fireplace to ward of today’s cloudy chills.  The fire was so cozy it dozed Pheebs & I out until a knock at the door bolted us both out of our chairs.

OUR HALF INCH RED GRAVEL IN THE FOREGROUND SHOWS DARKER WHEN WET

It was the FedEx man with 4 separate packages.  Kelly had ordered a new Poang Chair & footstool from IKEA & it came in 4 separate boxes.  We already have 2 Poang chairs & like them so well she wanted another one for the house.  We have one in our sunroom at home & the other one travels in the Motorhome & sits on our front porch at the moment.  I unpacked it this afternoon & tomorrow we will assemble it.  You can read my post about the day in January of 08 we spent at the Ikea store in Tempe, Arizona…WOW & DOUBLE WOW.

UNPACKING THE IKEA CHAIR WITH A LITTLE PHEEBER HELP

Kelly was back from Wickenburg about 2:30 with a Lasko 1500 watt oscillating ceramic tower heater.  This heater had good reviews on the internet.

It’s 16” high & with 3 settings it works like a charm.  We are totally happy with this product & for sure it has to be more efficient than the 2 old 8’ long base board heaters we currently have here in the house.  At $35 we just may see our way clear to get a second Lasko heater.

BY THE TIME WE RETURN NEXT FALL THIS FENCE WILL BE WEATHERED & MUCH DARKER…HOUSE IN BACKGROUND IS OUR MEXICAN NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTH

Our darkening skies finally turned into rain about 3:30 & I thought I heard thunder.  The desert landscape takes on a different look after a rain.  I had not intended to take any more fence or house photos today but after the rain…..I couldn’t help myself.  Our backyard filled up with flocks of birds on the ground furiously scratching & pecking at the wet ground.  I’m hoping they ate up all the weed seeds out there.  More rain predicted overnight & Friday kinda looks a bit yukky.

  1. Rain just arrived about five minutes ago here in the Valley.

  2. I laughed myself silly over your morning routine with the silverware drawer and cupboard. I'm sure many of your readers can relate. I have a Lasko heater I bought back in 2009 for use in my RV, and found it used so little electricity I use it now and keep my furnace setting down very low. I'm sure the newer ones such as the one you have is even more efficient.

  4. Hey Al, I think you left the cubbord door open!
What is that wet stuff coming out of the sky? We were out driving our golf cart in it last night.....strange stuff I must say.

  5. Al, most mornings around are the same as your "Porridge" morning. Guess we'll just have to deal with it. Looking forward to seeing the new chair Kelly & Pheebs assemble.

  6. WE sure like our Lasko heaters. Of course in the summer we use tower fans. We just use the same space the heater stood in.

  9. While there are several morning doves in the group shot of the birds, I believe your individual dove shot is of an Inca dove. :)

  10. At least you didn't let the porridge burn while you opened and closed the cupboard door!

  12. I was at a CVS in Phoenix and saw the Lasko heater for $54.95. But this one had a remote control. I was tempted.

  13. Cupbord doors...That is precisely why I took them off our cabinets. So much easier. Besides we never have anyone over anyways.
