THESE ARE QUIET DAYS

IMG_0757

These are quiet times here at the Bayfield Bunch as we slowly approach the calming days of September.  Our long hot summer is all but over as cooler night air signals the coming of another Season change. Gearing down with late Summer we feel the welcoming pull of Autumn upon us. Ever closer approaches the day’s ahead & our southwest travels. Another short month from now we will only have a couple weeks left before once again venturing out on the highways & by-ways of North America. There will be new roads, new routes, & new scenery this year. There will be a few routine plans & a generous helping of thoughts requiring spur of the moment changes as well I'm sure. There will be adventuress challenges & meaningful decisions to be made. We will have some new things to consider this year as we make our way through another warm southwest winter:))

Zurich Ontario had their annual Bean Festival this week-end & Kelly slipped over to the event Saturday to pick us up a mess of beans. Kelly is a bean person.  Me, not so much. For supper Saturday night I ate some beans & almost exploded. I think I may have finally figured out the link to an uncomfortable condition I have had for the past number of years. Beans & bloating!!  I must have slowly developed some kind of intolerance to beans over the years & last night was the worst ever. The way I see it now....no more beans for this guy, ever!! Yaaaaaay:))

On the way back from Zurich with her load of beans Saturday, Kelly had spotted 4 rural properties for sale. All on the same road & all within a 7 or 8 mile stretch of each other. Two by Real Estate & 2 by private owner. We already knew the Real Estate one's were probably farms & way to expensive but there is always a chance the private sales were maybe just an acre or two so I drove out that way this morning. Upon closer inspection of the private For Sale signs I saw they were both 100 acre working farms so that was the end of that little trip. We have a big Wind Turbine controversy brewing in this section of Huron County right now & I'm wondering if these 4 farmers, on the same road, so close to each other selling their properties at the same time, have some inside information on the coming of Wind Turbines to the area.

A wee bike ride through the countryside this afternoon, a stop for gas, & home. Like I said.....these are quiet days right now & the best place for me to be on these hot & muggy humid afternoons is inside where it's cool. Am hoping our incoming rain storm due in the next 24 hours brings cooler air with it. Maybe my interest will spike & my energy levels will grow.........................

  1. I live not too far from Dove Creek, Colorado, where they grow Anasazi and pinto beans. Anasazi beans won't make you explode, so you might want to try some when you get down this way. The secret to successfully eating other kinds of beans is to soak them overnight in water with a few tablespoons of baking soda in it. Rinse well before cooking. Works great.

My dogs love crockpot beans. WIth fall coming on, we start cooking a bit more (when we're where we can cook). Moki, Weezee and Cassie like the photos of Pheebs on your lap. They don't understand why we can't do it right like you guys do, but the main problem with that is we have cats who usually get first dibs.

  2. Looking forward to a few quiet fall days myself. This is my favorite time of the year and there is a definite nip in the air these mornings. Loved seeing the pix of Pheebs (the wonder dog)!!

  5. Perhaps I missed a blog somewhere, but I do not understand why you would move from that beautiful home and location where you spend your Summers now. I do not know if if is bad neighbors or high home owner dues or if you have just became bored.
We have been in the same house for 18 years now and since it only costs $ 927.00 a month to keep warm and cozy, I can't see a reason to move. The Florida house has cost us $ 336.00 a month after all the bills were averaged out. We plan to keep it a few more years until we figure what we want to do. I will admit being being 52 years old and no job feels a bit surreal, but it works for us.

  7. I just love this time of year...I anticipate those crisp, cool evenings...I sooo wish we didn't have that solitude ruined by the loud trains in our back yard...I am not opposed to moving, and Den says if we do it will be out of state..no problem for me.
