ARIZONA'S HUACHUCA MOUNTAINS ARE NOW ON FIRE AS WELL!!

DSC_0010

GODERICH HARBOR

Our annual heavy dusting of pine pollen is over again for another year but of course everything has a yellow coating of dust on it including my motorcycle. I generally do not like washing the vehicles here at home because of the heavy concentrations of chlorine in our water. It leaves white spots on everything & if a chamois is used the spots simply become streaks. Washed the bike anyway & took it for a run to blow dry it. That’s about the best solution for not ending up with white water spots.

OUR DAY IN RAMSEY CANYON........AND THE FIRES ARE HEADED FOR HERE:((
Had an email from a reader this morning directing me to a blog called, FIND AN OUTLET. Debra Argosy from Bisbee Arizona is the author of this site & today reports the Huachuca Mountains west of Sierra Vista are now on fire. How tragic this is as one can see from her photos. This currently makes 3 major fires burning the forests of Arizona right now. Kelly & I have spent time hiking & driving in the Huachuca’s & know first had the beauty of these mountains. If you use our search bar at the top of our right hand column & type in Ramsey Canyon, Carr Canyon, Coronado Peak, Coronado Cave or Parker Lake you can see for yourself the beauty we have found there. I went on to read Debra’s blog further & found it very interesting & well written. She is truly an animal person & of course Kelly & I totally love that. I like her attitude & approach to life. A down to earth person who tells it like it is & blogs from the heart. I have added Debra’s blog to our, ‘Blogs We Follow.’

FROM PICTURES I HAVE SEEN IT LOOKS LIKE THE AREA OF FIRE IN THE HUACHUCA MOUNTAINS IS DEAD AHEAD & TO THE RIGHT WITH FIRES BURNING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM

THESE PHOTOS ARE FROM THE CORONADO NATIONAL MEMORIAL NEAR THE CORONADO CAVE....DON'T KNOW IF THE FIRE IS IN THIS AREA OR NOT
Whitney Malone near Gleason Arizona just posted this HUACHUCA FIRE update & that fire is now not only headed for Carr & Ramsey Canyons, but Sierra Vista itself!!  You can see the post for our ROUGH & TUMBLE DRIVE IN CARR CANYON here.

And a note on the Chircahua Mountain fire east of the Huachucas. Rosanna near Sunsites Arizona sent me a note on Facebook a few days ago saying the fire is horrendous & is now burning in the Chiricahua National Monument itself. This is all sooooo tragic & sad for the State of Arizona, the people of Arizona & the countless poor animals in Arizona caught in these horrific fires:((

ON THE ECHO CANYON TRAIL IN THE CHIRICAHUA NATIONAL MONUMENT....THIS PARK IS NOW ON FIRE AS WELL:((
It was one year ago June 14th that we tried so hard to save the life of a young GREAT HORNED OWL we found in distress along the trail on our morning walk. Some stories have happy endings & some do not.

I liked MIKE McFALL'S attitude & realistic approach to aging today in his blog as he wisely made a decision that will allow him to safely ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle for years to come. Check out Mike’s blog & see what he has up his sleeve:)) I have more thoughts on this aging process which I will include in an upcoming post shortly.

NO, THIS IS NOT A PICTURE OF MIKE McFALL.....IT'S OUR LITTLE MOTORMOUSE:))

And, guess I should explain why I have had to back off from my beloved peanut butter & honey sandwich's. First let me say that I do not just spread a little peanut butter & honey on something as probably most normal people would do. I gob it on, I slather it on, I heap it on & I pile it on. A thick slice of bread is my first choice but I like bread so much I had to stop buying that as well years ago because I couldn’t stop eating it. I am powerless over dough:(( Instead, I whoop my PB & H sandwiches up on Flat Bread & role them up in a huge wrap. I don’t just have one of these every day, I have 3 or 4. And to make my addiction worse I often scoop a big gooey wad of peanut butter & honey out of my own jars in between sandwich’s. Despite only eating natural peanut butter with no additives it is the sheer volume that has been adding to my weight. And, coupled with some other bad eating habits my weight had gone up to 218 pounds which has been causing me increasing leg & knee problems. I knew as soon as I got my weight down, my leg problems would quickly clear up. I know that because I have done it before. For me, weight gain = leg pains & weight loss = no leg pains. So, I have had to take the bull by the horns ‘again’ & make some big changes. Not only to my PB & H habit but to my other poor eating habits as well. So, have I lost any weight yet? Yep, 5 pounds. Is the pain & stiffness in my legs going away? Yep, it sure is:))))))))

Always interesting to know where people get their email address names from. One of our email addys begins with ‘mousebanana.’ That came about a bunch of years ago while in the kitchen eating a banana thinking of what  name to use for a new email address. Little Cora (Motormouse) walked by & ‘Walla’ I had the name….mousebanana. And, now you know the whole story:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((
It's that time of year for us to take our annual senior citizen test.
Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it!

Below is a very private way to gauge how your memory compares to the last test. Some may think it is too easy but the ones with memory problems may have difficulty.  Take this test to determine if you're losing it or not.
The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until after you've answered them.
OK, relax, clear your mind and begin.
1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer: 'bread.' If you said 'toast' give up now and do something else.
Try not to hurt yourself.

If you said, bread, go to Question 2.

2.  Say 'silk' five times. Now spell 'silk.' What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said 'milk' don't attempt the next question. Your brain is over-stressed and may even overheat.  Content yourself with reading a more appropriate literature such as Auto World.

However, if you said 'water', proceed to question 3.
3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass.  If you said 'green bricks,' why are you still reading these???
If you said 'glass,' go on to Question 4.

4. Without using a calculator - You are driving a bus from  London    to
Milford Haven in  Wales    .  In  London    , 17 people get on the bus.
In  Reading    , 6 people get off the bus and 9 people get on.
In  Swindon    , 2 people get off and 4 get on.
In  Cardiff    , 11 people get off and 16 people get on.
In  Swansea    , 3 people get off and 5 people get on.
In Carmathen, 6 people get off and 3 get on.
You then arrive at  Milford    Haven.

Without scrolling back to review, how old is the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud!
Don't you remember your own age?
It was YOU driving the bus!!

  2. It is so unfortunate about the fires. I suppose that the best we can hope for is when they are out, that some good will come from the burn off. National Park angers are always talking about the positive aspects of wildfires. We heard it a lot in Yellowstone last year.

  8. Awful fires, awful!! I feel for the fire fighters--it is so hot down there this time of year. Good luck on the PB&J--we too are trying to drop some winter weight.

  11. One can only hope that in the grand scheme of things, the fires will refresh the landscape for future generations.

  12. Thanks so much for your updates on the Arizona fires -- what a loss for the state and the wildlife =( -- selfishly we are glad we got to visit these areas. We also enjoyed reading about your adventures on your roof earlier this week -- we are so glad you are safe!!

  13. So incredibly heartbreaking to see these fires in Arizona. Fire is a given in the western US, but not like this. Thanks for the link to Debra's blog, I subscribed as well. It brings the sadness and horror up close seeing it through the eyes of those who live there. We have had the wettest coldest spring on record, so fire season has been delayed here in Oregon, but it will come.

  15. OMG, thank you for posting about the Monument Fire. We hear so much about the Wallow fire, I had no idea about the Monument. Having spent a month in Sierra Vista in March, we did a lot of birding in all those canyon areas. I am deeply saddened about the loss of their habitat.

We also have good friends in Sierra Vista and I'm now worried for them as the article you linked to says the fire is on the way there.

Also sad about the fire in the Chiricahuas. We all have our memories of time spent in all these areas. These fires are more than just news stories to us, aren't they? Fear it will get much worse before it gets better. Too sad to think about.

Happy note: congrats on your weight loss and better health.

  16. I also fond out the only way I can lose weight is to give up my addition to peanut butter. I not only put huge amounts on sandwiches but would eat it with a spoon out of the jar. I have off peanut butter for a year now and the weight is down a lot.
