OUR LITTLE MOTORMOUSE IS DOING FINE:))

OUR IRIS FLOWERS ARE IN BLOOM

First, let me assure everyone that our little Motormouse is doing just fine & thanks to those who have expressed their concern. In hindsight I probably should not have made that picture of her the lead photo in Fridays blog, especially under the title of Friday’s blog. It is difficult to know if she is missing the big guys. Her appetite, attitude & behavior are doing well. We could interpret her sitting staring blankly out the window as missing Max & Checkers or her sad little face looking longingly across the room as the same thing but in reality those are both normal behavioral patterns for her……and she does have a normally sad, but cute little face. Our human minds would like to think she misses her 2 best Pals but we just don’t know. We have been taking her with us in the car more often now than we used to & she is really liking that. She loves to sit by the living room window watching me outside in the driveway to see if I am going to crank up the Jeep & take her for a ride now.

NOT TOO OFTEN WE SEE KELLY WITH A NEEDLE & THREAD BUT HERE SHE IS SEWING UP A BED COMFORTER FROM DEER PARK LODGE
Looks like all is still not well at the house of Google. People are still experiencing Blogger problems & now it seems to be the Followers Lists that are disappearing & reappearing on people’s blogs. That must be quite a set of growing pains Google is growing through for whatever reason. Last time I checked, we still had our Followers List.

MY VARIOUS GARDENING RECONSTRUCTION PROJECTS CONTINUE
I thought CROFT had a rather humorous post this past week on that Doomsday fiasco. Kelly has been reading this fellow for awhile & mentioned him to me this morning. I skimmed over some posts & found I liked the edge he has to his writing. Here’s a fellow not afraid to trot out some thoughts & opinions on controversial political subjects, spends his winter’s in Mexico & is a big sports fan.

KELLY WAS BUSY WITH SOME FLOWER POT PLANTING THIS AFTERNOON
JIM, SANDIE, SCOOTER & SKITTLES have run into a problem out there in Moab Utah that is always a problem for us as well. Especially me. It has to do with people pollution!! And yes, I am a people too so the problem applies to me as well. I have blogged many times before about why we prefer to do things by ourselves such as hiking & camping. Like a few others, we also prefer to stay away from crowds of people & have actually missed some picturesque places due to the number of cars jammed into scenic area parking lotS.

WE HAVE A LOT OF THIS GROUND COVER WHICH IS CALLED 'SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN'
It is the peace & quiet of the land I so much seek to enjoy & understand. It is the feeling, sights & sounds of nature I seek when we are RVing & I must admit there is almost nothing that annoys me more than a whole gaggle of loud squawking people cackling their way along a beautifully serene & tranquil trail. I have heard the conversations as they rumble by, eyes on the ground & jaws just a flapping. And are they talking about the natural beauty surrounding them? Just as often as not their babblings are about the Government, taxes, hair appointments, who’s doing what to who, Obama, Lindsay Lohan, CSI, auto repairs, Arnold & Maria, the latest sale at Costco, Oprah, the Stanley Cup, golf scores, the ‘Grands', & just about anything else that doesn’t have anything to do with where they are. Well, maybe I’m being a little harsh here but you get my drift.

RE-POTTING A FEW PLANTS ON THE FRONT DECK TODAY
And how is that many times when we pull into a deserted parking lot at a trail head another vehicle comes roaring in right behind us with about 45 foreign speaking camera toting tourists in it. So much for getting any photos of wildlife nearby because they are all running for the hills.  For some uncanny reason this seems to happen to us a lot!!

HE'S WAITING FOR ME TO PUT SOME MORE PEANUTS ON THE BIRD STATION
I think the biggest annoyance for me is what Jim & Sandie may have experienced in Moab. Hordes of young people!!!! Wherever you have a gathering of young people, & especially young males, you have attitudes, alcohol, drugs & noise. Add to that dirt bikes, ATV’s, rock climbing Jeeps & & you have the perfect recipe for a totally ruined day…..and sometimes a totally ruined landscape to boot. So many times it has been our experience when looking for a quiet boon docking site, to find areas where young people have been, littered with broken glass from beer bottles being smashed in fire pits & garbage of all descriptions lying about. Ammunition, like shotgun shells & expended rifle & pistol shells are often scattered on the ground from target shooting. Deep ruts in the terrain from dirt bikes & ATV’s. Not unusual to see trees & branches broken down for the big party campfires too. Not a pretty sight!!

Now, I’m not saying this about all young people but being a part of this mindset many years ago I know very well about the attitude, the alcohol & the irresponsible young male behavior.   Well, maybe I am getting a bit off track here again but I do understand Jim & Sandie's thoughts & concerns about the throngs of people in Moab for the start of summer's 4 wheel rock climbing mayhem.  And, that my dear friends brings me to the end of rant # 439. Can you tell it has been another dreary weather day folks......................

GROANER’S CORNER:(( After hearing that one of the patients in a mental hospital had saved another from a suicide attempt by pulling him out of a bathtub, the director reviewed the rescuer’s file and called him into his office. “Mr. James, your records and your heroic behavior indicate that you’re ready to go home. I’m only sorry that the man you saved later killed himself with a rope around the neck.” “Oh, he didn’t kill himself,” Mr. James replied. “I hung him up to dry.”

  1. I may be falling into the bear pit here but let me add that I also get irritated by those who cannot live without their music and tv and seem to want everyone in the campground to enjoy it with them. To me (and this is just my opinion) those TVs that you can roll out of the side bay of the motorhome and sit outside and watch are a terrible invention! Why can't you just enjoy the outside and go inside if you must watch tv. And the music blaring through the campgrounds is equally irritating. I like music but if I can hear yours from half a dozen campsites away it is too loud. Wow! Guess I must be irritible today!! But I do enjoy my peace and quiet and especially in a place where the beauty of nature should be enjoyed by all.

Glad to hear little Cora is fine. I sure enjoy the photos of her.

  2. Thanks Al for expressing how I feel. I am not a writer and struggle to try and get a blog post together. But you have expressed how I feel. I'm probably not as much as a "loner" as you are. But I sure do like peace and quiet. And my stomach rolls into a knot if I have to put up with a crowd of people.

Motormouse does have a sad face. That's what makes her such a doll. I'm sure she misses her buddies but the extra love she's getting from you and Kelly more than makes up for it.

  3. Although my plan has changed, one of the things I was always concerned about was ending up in a noisy crowed RV park.

We live in a very quiet place. The only noise at night is from the wind or a rare car on the private road.

In summer we hear occasional chain saws, blowers, on a few dogs that bark in the distance. Otherwise it is wind in the trees or birds. Tonight as I prepared dinner I was listening to a wild turkey down in the forest.

    Peaceful.

We listen to music, and Craig likes to crank it up pretty loud, but no one can hear it, because no one is near enough.

  4. Love the photo of Cora in the sun -- she is such a cutie and the iris photos as well - I miss seeing them. We too could rant about Moab and the ATV's etc and the people who run their generators at all hours even in this lovely BLM campsite -- hope things settle down after the holiday weekend. -- Martha

  5. The bear pit is getting crowded, the sound of the atvs can spoil a day real quick, and finding broken glass and garbage along the trails is just wrong. I was going to mention the loud music but I am starting to sound like my mum... I don't know when that happened to me.

  6. Al, you have incredible pics -- I keep saying that, but it's true. Pet peeves -- we all have them. I too cannot stand hearing someone else's music beating over what I am attempting to watch, listen to or whatever. We currently are in a touristy area & I'm not understanding just exactly what the attraction is -- the parking lots at the local shopping areas were full today...don't understand people going on vacation & shopping -- can't they do that at home?? I think we may be in the wrong place:( Glad Cora is doing well.

  7. we are all magnets for those bus loads of tourists!..some people just feel the need to talk ALL the time about a 'whole lotta nothin'!
glad to hear that Miss Cora is doing well!!

  8. Reminds me of once when our 4 kids were younger. We wanted to hike into a small lake that had a fairly easy trail. There were no cars at the trailhead, and we had a great hike into the lake, thinking we would have it all to ourselves to enjoy. Imagine our dismay when we finally got there and there were fishermen and other people all over the place! We discovered from talking to a couple of them that there was a nice short trail from the campground (which was up the road a few miles from the trailhead where we started from). Sometimes things just never work out as planned. We did enjoy our trip, but it wasn't quite as secluded as we all had hoped.

  9. My sentiments totally. When younger and more able, backpacking into the back country was one way to experience the wilderness without all the mayhem. It probably still is. Sadly, everyone wants a little bit of peace and quiet but many don't know how to treat it once they get there. Too many people in the world!

  10. Our thoughts exactly. We hate crowds and always try to avoid them whenever possible. One of the many reasons we stay away from RV parks too, hate opening our blind up to see an RV only a few yards away from us.

We are going to do the Cabot Trail in about a weeks time to avoid all the summer time crowds, just hoping the weather will improve.

  11. I'm finding that the older I get, the less tolerance I have for people who disturb the peace. That, and people who don't clean up after their pets!

  12. What kind of squirrel is that? It sure doesn't look like ours here in Indiana. Ours are lighter gray and red. Love the post today. Don and I are not great social butterflys, but do like meeting readers.

  13. There's a time and place for everything, which is something that very few people understand. If I want to hear loud cars, then I'll go to the track (and dammit, I'd better hear some loud cars!) However, I'd just as soon not hear them outside my house.
Same goes for "getting outdoors", some folks need to learn to "shut the f**k up". Sorry to curse like that, but I think you get my point.
I also cringe when I see RVs (not just motorhomes) with TVs on the outside. I've been living the last year and a half without TV, and with the exception of the Canada/USA hockey game, I don't miss it one bit. Sure as heck don't need to watch TV sitting next to a camp fire!
    Thanks for letting me vent.
    I'm all better now.
    :)

  14. Al, what can I add that hasn't already been said? What about cell phones? Do people have to be the phone talking all the time?

You didn't mention that one, so I did. Otherwise, Rant #439 was perfect!

  15. We lost our followers list yesterday too. I have to use IE to comment on most blogs, but some I have to switch over to Firefox...that really sucks...Dennis downloaded Chrome, but he hates that you can't take your Google bookmarks with you...Progress...whatever.

  16. You know, that is one of the various reasons we enjoy the work gig we have at the moment. We are not in a campground and our immediate neighbors are birds, deer, groundhogs . . . you get the vision, eh? Seems like so few people (young and not-so-young) have no respect for each other, the land, the property and personal space of others these days. Okay, 'nuff said . . . I'm about to end up with a blog post here! Glad Motormouse is doing fine, although I do imagine she misses her pals. With all the love and attention she receives, give her time and she'll be right as rain. You both be gentle with yourselves . . . it takes a while to get over the loss of a furry family member.
