CHECKERS SPENT MANY HAPPY HOURS IN HER YOUNGER DAYS PLAYING ON THIS BEACH AT DEER PARK LODGE
These are very sad, difficult & tear filled days for us right now. I cannot write about Checkers yet, but I will. And I cannot post any more pictures of her right now, but I will. We have more sad days ahead as Max’s mobility steadily declines.
Kelly & I want to thank each & every person for all the sincere heartfelt Comments, Emails, Shout Outs & Facebook messages. Our dear sweet Checkers had so many, many friends.
Thank you all for your thoughts......... Al.
So, did Checkers have a good life with you all? Yes, she did. Take heart in that. Most all things heal in time. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are so special. I'd be lost without mine.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad fact of life that our beloved pets are only ours for a short span of time. My heart aches for the Bayfield Bunch.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your sadness.
ReplyDeleteYES! Checkers did have many friends and you do to! Take very good care and time for yourselves.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss, it is very difficult to say goodbye to a dear pet.
ReplyDeleteCheckers had a great life with the 'bayfield bunch'..the days will get better..it just takes time..sorry to hear about Max..
ReplyDeletehugs to you both..
no words will take pain away..just know that we are all out here in blogville when you are ready..
Al, we are thinking about you and Kelly, this is such a hard time.
ReplyDeleteSending hugs.
Your love for Checkers gave her a wonderful life. We know you guys miss her and we totally understand. Take care and know you also gave her a great and special life.
ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks for you as I hug my girls and know that they too will leave me in a few short years. I am so very sorry.
ReplyDeleteI know you will do what ever you can to make things easier for Max
ReplyDelete. We made a sturdy ramp for our sweet girl and it allowed her to reach the garden at will. Without it she would have had to go up and down several steps that she was having trouble with.
It gave her a few extra months. It gave us the feeling we had done all we could.
Take your time, heal, and write when you want. not when you feel you have to.
ReplyDeleteRelive your great life with Checkers and mourn.
Take care.
And your friends will be right here for you for as long as you need us. Holding you and Kelly (and Max and Cora) in my heart...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so unfair that our pets don't live the long lives we do?? But how lucky you and Kelly were, and so was Checkers!..I think the ramp idea might aid Max in his mobility...also give you a project for this hard time.
ReplyDeleteTake all the time you need, Al, we'll all be waiting patiently, and we look forward to your reflections on Checkers' life with you. She made a good contribution to the Bayfield Bunch, and you folks made a good life for her. We enjoyed scratching her ears when we got together with you these last two winters!
ReplyDeleteNothing is harder than making the decision to let a 4-legged member of the family go. There's nothing more pure than the love of an animal, which makes the decision even more difficult.
ReplyDeleteCheckers will always be with you two. Hold tight to that, and fill the hole in your hearts with memories of her.
So very sorry to hear about Checkers. May you both find solice and peace in your many wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteGrieving the loss of a beloved pet is such a personal thing for each of us. We can never fully understand the effect on each heart, but we know the feelings are difficult to work through. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
ReplyDeleteHi...we read your blog pretty much every day as we are full time traveling. It is very sad to hear about the loss of your beloved Checkers. We have a wonderful cat that travels with us and he is such great company for us. Many thoughts and healing prayers for you with your loss. Debbie, Vincent and KT
ReplyDeleteI was so very sorry to read about your sweet Checkers today. Those of us reading your blog know how very dear your pets are to you two and. . . they've become special friends for us too.
ReplyDeleteI feel much empathy with you and Kelly (having lost pets of my own over the years) and look forward to hearing more about Checkers when you feel up to writing about her. The photo you've posted is just precious -- makes me want to just reach out and pet her!!
Take your time...sending warm thoughts your way...Blessings!
ReplyDeleteJust caught up today..So very sorry for your loss. A dear friend of mine told me once Dogs don't get to live as long as us, so we get to have more than one best friend.
ReplyDeleteA few of my favorite "quotes" for dealing with the loss of a pet. Take Care Bayfield Bunch:)
ReplyDelete"It is not just that animals make the world more scenic or picturesque. The lives of animals are woven into our very being - closer than our own breathing - and our soul will suffer when they are gone."
~Gary Kowalski, Author of The Souls of Animals
"If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went."
~ Will Rogers
"If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."
~ James Herriot.
"If I have any beliefs about immortality it is that certain dogs I know will go to heaven, and very few people."
~James Thurber
"A good dog never dies. He always stays. He walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near. His head is within our hand in his old way."
~Mary Carolyn Davies
