All of tonight's photos are in Palomas Mexico. It is home to the widely renowned Pink Store. We were there in December of 06 & again a few months later in 07. We probably made half a dozen visits here & just basked in the beautifully colored ambience of the store itself. Good food, live Mexican bands & free Margaritas for those so inclined. People were handed the Margaritas as they walked in the door to shop & browse. It is one of those places you have to see to believe. You all know how much I dislike browsing & shopping but I sure enjoyed the time we spent in this Christmas colored Toyland:)) The Pink Store's owner got to know us & once drove Kelly & I across the border in her truck. Can't remember her name but she was a nice person. I also had some dental work done & we both obtained new eyeglass prescriptions in the Pink Store's plaza. With all the trouble in that area now I'm sure glad we had the opportunity to see & enjoy the Pink Store when we did. Many fond memories..............
Had it not been for my Doctor's appointment this morning the day would have ended up being pretty flat. Another test & another bucket of blood left at the Hospital. My instructions are to phone the Doctor guy's office Friday for today's test results. Boy, a fella sure has to jump over a lotta barrels & through a lotta hoops just be accepted into the new Canadian Astronaut Program:))
Handyman Bruce brought over & assembled the rig's computer station & it's going to work well for us freeing up some much needed space. Just a few minor alterations & the project will be finished Thursday. Our night time temps have been down around 26F so I've had to leave some heat on in the coach the past couple nights to keep waterlines from freezing.
Came across an interesting blog this morning & it turns out Kelly has been reading this RV full timing ladies blog for a long time now. Jennifer does her own repairs & maintenance, took a professional mechanics course & had an RV dealership teach her how to drive. I read some of her bio & was impressed with her honesty. Back from Alaska this summer she is currently kicking up a bunch of dust in New Mexico with her 2006 Gulf Stream Vista Cruiser Mini. Check out, LIVING IN MY CAR
For the second year in a row we will leave here in a few days with empty spaces in our Motor Home bins. That's a big departure from our first few years Snow Birding when we both felt we had to fill every last inch & ounce of space with at least 'something!!' Just didn't seem right to be going somewhere & not be fully loaded to the rafters. We bundled aboard all kinds of heavily weighted canned goods & probably brought a third of them back home with us again. It's a common mistake a lot of RV'ers make starting out & I am reminded of that every time I see vacant space in our bins. But you know what, I still have the urge to fill those spaces with at least, something!!
ONE BLOCK WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE BORDER
AWWWWW, THOSE WERE THE DAYS:))
GROANER'S CORNER:(( And remember, some people hear voices. Some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

The only thing better than right now will someday be the memories of right now...... AL.
I've been trying to remember where the Pink Store is, and now I realize it's Palomas. Is that across the border from Columbus? Now I can't recall if it's across from NM or AZ. I may try to get over to Algodones, but there are so many things I want to do I'm sure I won't be able to accomplish everything.
ReplyDeleteYou have all that empty storage space and I'm getting freaked out over the fact that I will not have enough with the truck camper.
I think the Loners on Wheels (LoWs) crowd really kept the Pink Store afloat during recent troubles. Their headquarters is in Deming, NM, but I wonder how it will go for them this winter? I was there last Nov., but not sure I'd want to go there this year. :(
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a place I would love to go! Great photo at the end, you guys look so happy!
ReplyDeleteJennifer (livinginmycar) has been a favorite of mine for a long time, solo woman Rv'er, she has alot of guts and is going through alot of soul searching in her endeavors. She is very brave.
The Dempster Highway is no fun for any RV! (apparently!)
Cheers!
Wow- those pictures bring back memories. We wandered the store and had lunch there. That is the kind of store I try to avoid, if I get any advance warning.
ReplyDeleteI doubt we will be back there again.
Thanks for the flashback.
It's time for some new memories!!..don't forget the Tim Horton's coffee!!
ReplyDeleteOH, the Hubster would steal that hat right off your head! Nice store, but too bad it's across the border.. wouldn't go there now. Glad you got to go when you did!!! Looks like fun and free margarita's too!!! Sure hope all is well with the nice lady there!
ReplyDeleteGreat memories, The astronaut program, are they doing a study on over 60 bodies in space? Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..
ReplyDeleteYup, we still have some empty spaces and even empty cabinets here and there in our rig, after owning it for 4 years now. I will probably fill them with yarn when we go fulltime, but that is a *Revolving Item* == Yarn stored up gets made into socks which get sold and more money to buy more yarn! LOL

The Pink store looks interesting but since it's across the border guess we won't ever see it.
ReplyDeleteYour right about the thinking we need to take everything when we are leaving on a trip. We must not think there are stores where we are going.
Safe travels when you leave!
Thanks for the photo comment Al--I always feel I have done something right in the photography department when you like the photo!
ReplyDeletePink Store lady's name is Ivonne, and she is a very nice lady, especially handing out those free margaritas. We had several last year while visiting, may well be our last time. Your pix inside the store turned out SO much better than mine did. Would you mind if I steal one or two of them to use in the newsletter I produce for about 150 Escapee readers? No,. no prison escappes, Escapee Club members! You knew that!
ReplyDeleteYou may have said this some time back, Al, but are you going to go into Mexico this year? I am wondering how many people feel safe going down to Rocky Point or Palomas or all those other great wintering spots. We haven't attempted Mexico yet with the RV, not sure we will.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of the Pink Store Al. That will probably be all I'll see of it as I won't be venturing across the border. Great colors in your shots!!
