No current photos today but I will take you back in time to our visit at an old 50’s style Trailer Park with vintage restored trailers at the SHADY DELL in Bisbee, Arizona.
A few pitter patters of rain & half a dozen wind gusts brought another Sunday night to an end & left the Bayfield Bunch sleeping peacefully for the rest of the night.
Came across a blog site on the RV Net Forum that has helpful info on it regarding boosting WiFi signals in out of the way places such as boondocking etc. Noticed this young ‘computer background' couple’s site offers a lot of RV tips & info & they are Verizon users. Check out Nina & Paul’s, WHEELING IT. They also have RV Park Ratings & a Pet Corner.
It was a calm morning until the wind gusts suddenly hit us about 11:30. There is rarely much warning as the winds seem to thunder down out of the mountains upon the valleys unsuspecting residents. One minute relaxed outside in a comfy lounger chair & the next minute all hell breaks loose as you scramble for hats, overturned tables, hair pieces, rolling trash cans, false teeth, empty water jugs & just about anything else that isn’t nailed or glued down. The big southwest winds are always our greatest Nemesis each winter & this afternoons mainline runaway freight train out of the north west let us know once again just who is the big boss in these dusty Arizona lands. And, tonight the predicted low for Elfrida is 13F. We are a little higher up than Elfrida so I suspect our temps will be down around 10 or lower again. Not nice!!!!!!!!!!!
It was probably the better part of 3 o’clock before I remembered the Elfrida Photo Club had started at 1. I had become so engrossed in my ‘Cowman’s Wife’ book that the afternoon just slipped away from me. I was lost in the Chiricahua Mountains rugged Rucker Canyon right along with the hearty frontier cattle ranch folks in the book. The howling winds & dropping temperatures just made for one of those cozy & warm inside days. Just kind of a good old book reading day:))
GROANER’S CORNER:(( This guy goes into his dentist's office, because something is wrong with his mouth. After a brief examination, the dentist exclaims, "Holy Smokes! That plate I installed in your mouth about six months ago has nearly completely corroded! What on earth have you been eating?" "Well... the only thing I can think of is this... my wife made me some asparagus about four months ago with this stuff on it... Hollandaise sauce she called it... and doctor, I'm talking DELICIOUS! I've never tasted anything like it, and ever since then I've been putting it on everything... meat, fish, toast, vegetables... you name it!" "That's probably it," replied the dentist "Hollandaise sauce is made with lemon juice, which is acidic and highly corrosive. It seems as though I'll have to install a new plate, but made out of chrome this time." "Why chrome?" the man asked.
"Well, everyone knows that there's no plate like chrome for the Hollandaise!"

ReplyDeleteWhen those wind gusts swoop down off the mountains...and all hell breaks loose...it strikes me that the trick is to make sure you don't end up with "the false teeth on your head and the hairpiece in your mouth"! LOL!

Good groan today. I think your wind blast has made it to Galveston Bay today. I'm battening down the hatches. You can keep the 10* temps, though. :)

ReplyDeleteWe have visited the Shady Dell Park also, and really enjoyed seeing your pictures. Especially the top one, where your wide-angle shot accentuated the "bulge" look of the front. We have a book for you, a gift from Old Pearce, when we see you. You may enjoy it. It is full of newspaper clippings about Pearce from 1910.
ReplyDeleteHey Al, we missed at the meeting but I think you were probably in a much better place. The library heat was set to 50 and it took the two hours just to get to 60. The winds are really bad up here and Monday morning we had around 1/2" of SNOW outside.
