AN UNEXPECTED TRIP OVER TO WATERLOO, ONTARIO

DSC_0005

DID WE FINALLY FIND OURSELVES A JEEP?

Had my eye appointment today at noon & the eye guy said although I have slow growing cataracts in both eyes I am not there yet for cataract surgery.  Scheduled me for a full eye exam in the spring, wrote me out a new eye glasses prescription & sent me on my way.  Said reading in low light types of situations will continue be be more difficult as time goes on but that's the way it will be until I walk over the edge of a an Arizona cliff because I didn't see where it was in the dim early morning light:))

WE HAVE A NEW BATCH OF BABY ROBBINS IN ONE OF OUR JUNIPER TREES

I did pick myself up a Sony ICD-Px820 digital audio recorder this morning so now I've got another contraption to figure out.  Only took me about 3 years to finally make the 'recorder' decision.  First thing I'll do is record some info about myself in case I get lost in the woods & can't remember who I am.

NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD A FANCY BOAT

Noticed Gordon over at NIGHTLY NEWS picked himself up a nice compact Panasonic Lumix digital camera.  Jerry coincidentally mentioned in an email today that he just bought himself a new camera too.....yep, a Panasonic Lumix & after Retired Rod read about Gordon buying the Lumix.....yep, he ordered himself a Panasonic Lumix as well.  Looks like it was a good week for Panasonic.  GORDON is a professional photographer & if he feels the Panasonic Lumix is a quality camera........you can take that to the bank:))  If I didn't have my little Canon.....yep, I'd be gettin me a Panasonic Lumix alright:))

IT'S A PICTURESQUE & QUIET HARBOR HERE IN BAYFIELD

Kelly spotted a Jeep for sale on the internet this morning over in Waterloo Ontario.  After a series of emails back & forth to the Jeep owner we decided to slip over this afternoon & have a look at it.  2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ  Sport with a 6 cylinder engine.  4x4 with a 6 speed manual transmission.  Both a hard & soft tops, tinted glass, fog lights, & a few extra goodies inside.  110,000 kms or about 70,000 miles.  Jeep was clean as a whip, one owner, never driven off road, not worn, & mechanically maintained.  New tires & brakes, E tested & safety checked just yesterday.  No fancy power windows & locks stuff on this little Jeepster but that's OK because we don't consider ourselves fancy power folks anyway.  It was a private sale & I was satisfied the lady we talked to today was honest & above board with us.

So, after a long consultation with ourselves........we bought it:))  We will return to Waterloo (2 hour drive one way) Monday morning to do all the paper work & licensing.  With any luck we'll be back in Bayfield by mid afternoon.  Kelly will drive the Santa Fe back & I will bring the Jeep.  Might take me a tad longer though, cutting through farmer's fields, across creeks, over bumpy hills & dales & all the swampy forests along the way I can find.........:))

GROANER'S CORNER.....but tonight this one isn't a groaner!!

A Canadian Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the Canadian, U.S. , English, Australian and French Navys. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from
from most of those countries.

Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, North Americans generally learn only English.' He then asked, 'Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?'

Without hesitating, the  Admiral replied 'Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German.'

  2. Congratulations Al and Kelly, that new Jeep is a real beauty!! I can already see you guys tearing across the desert in that! Looks clean as a whistle too!

I'll second the Panasonic Lumix pocket cams too. I bought one for Paulette a year and half ago and she loves it. The pictures are excellent quality too.

  5. That is one mighty fine looking Jeep Al. It looks in mint condition in your photos, and with only 110,000 on it, it is just broken in, and ready to tear up the desert! We are very happy with our Jeep Liberty, and can't wait to head south!

  6. Wow!! You did it, and the motorcycle is still here! And boy do I agree about the speaking French bit. They seem to forget so easily.

I looks really nice from the pics and you will probably get more for the van this way to boot. A 6 cylinder and a stick so it can be pulled, what else could you want?

As far as the camera I ordered, I'll pass my 8 mp to Loyce who is using an older 4mp that's a tank. And who knows it may light more of a fire under my butt to include some photos on the blog.

I always wait to the middle of the night to write the blog, and by then I'm too tired to mess with pics, heck last night I didn't even spell the heading right. Oh well....

  9. Congrats on the new Jeep! I'm envious - I had one; the transmission went out and got a Liberty. I like the Liberty but miss my old Wrangler. Cool pic of the baby birds!

  10. Congrats on the new addition to the family....and the baby bird too! May you have many, many years of pleasurable driving with your new Jeep. Get a little mud on the tires!

  11. Al,
The jeep looks great. I think you found a real gem. That's the last year that had the straight 6 engine. It's got gobs of torque. You're gonna love it. You might want to switch tires before you do much off-road. BF Goodrich AT tires are very popular with jeep wrangler owners.

  14. Great choice of wheels, Donna sure misses the one she wore out, and it had a manual trans and no power windows also, less to fix, she had over 200.000 miles on the original clutch, of course my son never got his hands on it. Al will sure love the way it handles in snow and climbs those mountain trails out west. Hope he lets Kelly get some stick time in it too. Add me to list of Sony Lumix owners also, Again my smart wife bought it and it has turned out to be a great camera for my first digital camera, most of the pictures in the blog are taken with it, of course I am lusting over a digital Canon to replace my 35mm film camera's but it hasn't worked it's way up the priorities list yet. Be safe out there Sam & Donna.

  15. Just to make it clear, Al, Lumix is Panasonic's brand of digital cameras. There are many of them, ranging from pocket point-and-shoot models to digital SLRs.

The one I just bought is their compact P&S ZS7 model, which is basically the same as their less expensive ZS5, but has GPS tagging. So if tagging one's images with GPS data isn't important, the ZS5 is more cost effective.

However, the choice of one's camera is a very personal decision. There are a great many factors to take into consideration and what works for me isn't going to work for a lot of folks.

BTW, nice Jeep. I can see that happily bouncing around the AZ back country.

  16. Amen to all the comments about the Jeep and where you will drive it.

Hey, it looks like we made the right choice about the Panasonic Lumix! Now I gotta figure out why I need a built-in GPS. The camera also has a setting for fireworks, so this July 3, I'll be standing on the front porch watching the city fireworks three miles away, see what I can get!

  17. NICE RIDE!!!!I CAN SEE IT NOW..AL AND KELLY'S JEEP TOURS THROUGH THE SONORAN DESERT!!!!

  18. Great looking set of wheels. I am sure you'll enjoy it for years to come! Congratulations!

  19. Great Jeep! Pretty color too. I hear you on no "power locks" and that. Honestly it's not needed and those are the things that break down and cost the most money (I need a new motor for my rear lock and it's $250!).
Have fun with the new "toy"!!!
    Cheers!
