I REALLY LIKED ALL THE LIGHTS AND COLORS I SAW ON THIS HOUSE ACROSS THE RIVER...PHOTO TAKEN FROM BAYFIELD'S SOUTH PIER |
After posting the blog last night and with decent temperatures outside I decided to saddle up Subie and take a drive out into the countryside to see if I could catch any glimpses of the Moon through the gathering cloud cover. It was not to be, so with the sky completely obscured by clouds I made a U-turn and headed into Bayfield for a nice slow drive around town looking at the cozy lights and stuff. Stopping first at Bayfield's beach, and because I had my camera tripod with me, I decided to walk out on the south pier and take a few pics across the river of a really nice lit-up home. Following that, I made my way into town taking a few pics along the way and a couple on Bayfield's main street. I drove slowly through a few neighborhoods wrapped in that cozy Sunday night peaceful warmth. No people or vehicles out and about. With soft ambient music on my Sirius Satellite Radio, I again had the whole sleepy little fishing village all to myself. I just love doing this at night and I hope to get myself out taking more nighttime photos.

TAKING A WALK OUT ON THE PIER...SO NICE TO HEAR GENTLE WAVES SLOSHING THROUGH THE ROCKS ALONG THE EDGE OF THE PIER |

BAYFIELD'S BRIDGE TAKEN FROM A DISTANCE |
A fiery sunrise this morning but it didn't last long before it climbed up behind a cloud bank. Pheebs and I didn't go for a car ride because she was sleeping so soundly I thought at first I might have lost her. I slipped outside to top up a couple bird feeders and when I came back in she was up and her tail was wagging. Time is winding down for her now and I know at any time she might not wake up from one of her increasingly long sleeps. She is eating less as well but has not exhibited any signs of stress or discomfort. There is an occasional weakness in her legs now as well.

MY PATHWAY ACROSS THE ROAD LEADING TO THE PARK'S POND |
I puttered about in the carport today and made a little headway. (very little) Also finished up clearing my little path through the pine trees leading to the Park's pond. Although out of energy and preferring a snooze in my recliner, I hooked Subie to the utility trailer, picked up a few roadside piles of pine needles and branches, and hauled them off to the Park's recycling area. By the time I got back home I was totally ker-pooped. In fact, I was so tired that my shoes even fell asleep. Not feeling like being in the kitchen jousting with any of my many fine culinary skills, I made myself a peanut butter sandwich and headed for my living room recliner with my legs growling at me all the way. Deciding the peanut butter sandwich wasn't cutting it I hopped into Subie and drove to Bayfield's Subway Shop and got a 12 inch Combo sub to split with Pheebs. Home again, we weren't long in demolishing the whole thing. After publishing this post I think I'll head out again with my camera and tripod and see if I can find me a few more night photos.

MY FIRST OF TWO LOADS TO THE PARK'S RECYCLE AREA |
Al's Music Box:)) Black Water is a song recorded by the American music group the Doobie Brothers from their 1974 album What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. The track features its composer Patrick Simmons on lead vocals and, in mid-March 1975, became the first of the Doobie Brothers' two No. 1 hit singles. "Well, I built me a raft and she's ready for floatin'. Ol' Mississippi, she's callin' my name. Catfish are jumpin', that paddle wheel thumpin' Black water keep rollin' on past just the same"........opening lyrics to "Black Water", written by P. Simmons. Patrick Simmons recalled that he chanced on the basic guitar lick for "Black Water" while at Warner Bros. Recording Studio for the recording sessions for the Doobie Brothers' 1973 album The Captain and Me: "I was sitting out in the studio waiting between takes and I played that part. All of a sudden I heard the talk-back go on and [producer] Ted Templeman says: 'What is that?' I said: 'It’s just a little riff that I came up with that I’ve been tweaking with.' He goes: 'I love that. You really should write a song using that riff.'" Simmons completed "Black Water" during a subsequent Doobie Brothers' sojourn in New Orleans; a lifelong aficionado of Delta Blues, Simmons had first visited New Orleans for a 1971 Doobie Brothers gig: "When I got down there it was everything I had hoped it would be...The way of life and vibe really connected with me and the roots of my music." Simmons cites the song's opening section as "my childhood imaginings of the South from reading Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer". The lyrics subsequent to the first chorus draw on his experience of New Orleans: "going down to the French Quarter as often as possible and going into the clubs and listening to Dixieland".The lyric Well if it rains, I don't care/ Don't make no difference to me/ Just take that street car that's goin' uptown was jotted down by Simmons while riding through the University District on the St. Charles Streetcar Line. en route to the Garden District in Uptown New Orleans to do laundry. He recalled that "the sun was shining while it was pouring rain the way it does down there sometimes. And the lyrics just came to me there [on the streetcar]."

Hospital regulations require a wheelchair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student aide, Sam found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn't need Sam's help to leave the hospital. After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let Sam wheel him to the elevator. On the way down Sam asked him if his wife was meeting him. I don't know, he said. She is still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.
