MY FAVORITE FOREST TREE DIED TODAY UNDER THE CRUSHING BLOW OF A BULLDOZER BLADE:((

SAW SOME NICE FLOWERBEDS IN GODERICH THIS MORNING
It was 7 a.m. and we had sunshine in our living room.  Off to a good start I'd say so let the cards fall where they may.
GODERICH HARBOR MOUTH THIS MORNING
LAKE HURON WAS SHOWING HER ROYAL BLUE COLORS TODAY
THE ALGOMA INNOVATOR WAS AT THE SALT DOCK
SHORELINE RESTORATION CONTINUE IN FRONT OF THE BEACH STREET STATION RESTAURANT
Needing potting soil our first destination was a garden store where we picked up eight 25 litre bags.  'We' of course is Pheebs and I.  Don't ever like to bother anyone at the Canadian Tire Store so I always prefer to pick out and load up stuff myself.  If anyone asks if I need help I always say no, I need the exercise which of course is totally true.  Picking up one bag at a time and putting it on my cart I was, of course, reminded of my age again as a young gangly 17ish employee comes bounding over and daddy-longlegs himself up to the top of the topsoil palette, picks up 2 bags and does 3 double back-flips down the pile to the parking lot.  Well Okay maybe he didn't do the double back-flips but I'm sure he would have if he could have.  I continued loading my cart....one bag at a time.
BALTIMORE ORIOLE ON OUR FEEDER
DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS LITTLE CHAP IS
IT'S EASY TO SEE HOW THESE LITTLE CHIPMUNKS CAN EASILY SEE BEHIND THEMSELVES

Sorry about the small print again folks....it's this damn Blogger program I'm forced to use!!   Took ourselves for a little spin around Goderich and had planned on stopping at the Naftel Creek Conservation area on the way home for a walk but with 9 cars already in the parking lot that was an immediate end to any thoughts of a walk.  We were home10 minutes later.
TREES ARE QUICKLY FILLING OUT THEIR FINEST SPRING FINERY
AND IT'S TULIP TIME IN OUR NECK OF THE WOODS TOO
Unloaded all 8 bags of soil and immediately used 4 of them on my re-seeding project.  I'm finished with that now and if I can get one blade of grass to grow I will deem it a resounding success.  Some may remember when we planted all clover last year about this time and it grew in great....for awhile.  Then 'poof' it was all gone and I'm not seeing any of it anywhere this year.
WITH ANY LUCK THAT BLACK WILL TURN GREEN EH
PHEEBS WAS REALLY POOPED AFTER HELPING ME UNLOAD THOSE BAGS OF DIRT
Bright sunny skies today with not a cloud anywhere.  Winds had died down to a light breeze and I think we climbed us up to a respectable 70F.  It was one of those feeling good days to be outside.
IN OUR PARK'S PARK THIS AFTERNOON
It was with sadness this afternoon while walking our Pine Tree trail to find my favorite young Maple tree had been ripped out by a bulldozer.  The whole area around my tree was totally unrecognizable.  The tree I had stood by and shared my thoughts with for over seventeen and a half years.  Each Fall just before we would head for the Southwest I would stop by my tree and wish it strength for the coming Winter.  I would always promise to be back in the Spring, and I was.  It was always there standing steady and growing stronger with each passing year, until today.  On our walks many times Pheebs and I would go as far as our Maple tree, share a few thoughts, and head home again.  My blog's header picture of Pheebs in the Autumn leaves was taken at the foot of that tree.  Me standing beside the tree and Pheebs standing on the footpath.  Some will understand my sadness today at the demise of my young and robust Maple tree friend............and some will not.
WHAT A SAD SCENE TO COME UPON TODAY AND THAT IS MY MAPLE TREE PAL STRAIGHT AHEAD LEANING TO THE LEFT
MY TREE AT THE RIGHT AND JUST BEHIND WHERE THE BULLDOZER SITS THERE HAD BEEN AN OLD CAMPSITE FROM YEARS GONE BY....RICHARD AND I WALKED RIGHT THROUGH THERE LESS THAN A WEEK AGO
I DON'T KNOW.....SOME DAYS ARE JUST A LITTLE SADDER THAN OTHERS
GROANER'S CORNER:(( A young woman visits her parents and brings her fiancé to meet them. After an elaborate dinner, the mother tells her husband to find out about the young man.The father invites the fiancée to his library for a drink. So what are your plans? The father asks the young man. I am a Torah scholar. He says. A Torah scholar, Hmmm, the father says. Admirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in, as she is accustomed to? I will study, the young man said, and God will provide for us.  And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring, such as she deserves? asks the father. I will concentrate on my studies, the young man replies, God will provide for us.And children? asks the father. How will you support children? Dont worry, sir, God will provide, replies the fiancé.The conversation continues like this, and each time the father questions, the young idealist insist that God will provide.Later, the mother asks, How did it go, Honey? The father answers, He has no job and no plans, but the good news is he thinks Im God.

A professor at a museum noticed his tomb exhibit was empty.  He walks by a little boy who is lost and crying.  He asked the boy what's wrong. "I want my mommy!" the boy sniffed.  The professor said, "I know how you feel, I want my mummy too!"

  2. I'm sorry about the tree Al. I have some favourite and meaningful trees and spots back there as well, now I'm dreading going back there. I think the bird in your pic may be a Veery. I had a couple here as well. Today also marked my first visits by a Chestnut-Sided Warbler and Black Throated Blue Warbler. They might make their way to your place.

  3. You and the maple have had a few years together. Wish you could go on having it around for more of them. Ordinarily, or we hope ordinarily, the tree would have gone on to more years without you. Glad you've got Pheebs though, and nice to see her able to relax.

  4. I am so sorry, Al. It's like a piece of you is gone, and it hurts. I always hate to see trees cut down. The planet needs them so much.

  5. So sorry to hear of your tree's demise. We lost our beautiful Golden Chain tree over the winter as it just died. When the yard fellow pulled it out we found that a gopher had eaten through the root system, killing the tree. We had the tree over nearly 25 years. Sadness here too.

  6. Someone cut down a huge oak tree on their property several years ago. It was magnificent standing alone along the street. After it was cut down I counted the rings. I estimated the tree to be 600 years old. It saddened me to see it gone

  7. Al, your deep love of all living things is reflected in your beautiful photography. It's not the camera - it's your heart that captures that Beauty. I feel your sadness in the loss of your tree. Love. 🌷

  9. Sad to see those trees just pushed over. Your close-ups of the birds and that little chipmunk are perfect.
