THE SQUIRREL WARS HAVE ALREADY BEGUN FOR ANOTHER SEASON:((

A COZY SETTING ON A QUIET STREET IN SLEEPY BAYFIELD THIS MORNING
Followed the Jeep's windshield wipers around Bayfield this morning.  No point heading out into the countryside where roads were a muddy mess.  A short drizzly walk in the Bayfield Cemetery and we were home again whereupon my sunroom recliner re-claimed me for a second day in a row.  There are things needing done around here but I have had no desire to do them these last bunch of days.
WITH BAYFIELD'S NEW TEMPORARY BAILEY BRIDGE IN OPERATION (TOP) A BARGE ON THE RIVER BELOW ALLOWS A LARGE MACHINE TO DISMANTLE PARTS OF THE OLD BRIDGE FROM UNDERNEATH
HERE'S MY FAVORITE BAYFIELD HOUSE IN IT'S SPRING COLORS
WE EVEN HAVE HOUSES WITH WHITE PICKET FENCES IN BAYFIELD
A RAINY MORNING IN THE CEMETERY
Skies brightened around noon and that at least got me out of the house for a walkaround and a later afternoon walk with Pheebs under threatening skies.  Looks like Friday is a mixed bag of whatever.
AHHHHH THE TRUE COLOR OF SPRING
JUST A BIG PILE OF PINE CONES ALONGSIDE AN OLD WIRE FENCE
Some may remember a month or so ago my mentioning of a large marbled boulder lying at the water's edge near the dog walking area of Goderich's Rotary Cove.  Due to Lake Huron's shore erosion that boulder had tumbled down a slight embankment to the water's edge and I was hoping reconstruction crews wouldn't just leave it there and dump tons of rock and cement chunks on it while rebuilding the shoreline.  Kelly sent an email to the folks in charge of the shoreline restoration hoping they would save and incorporate the large rock back into the new shoreline design.  Happy to say we received an email a couple days ago from the good folks at Huron District Contracting doing the shoreline work saying the large marbled rock has been saved and is now once again back in place at the entrance to Rotary Cove's dog walking area.  Still have no idea when Goderich's beach area will open again but I'm anxious to see it when it is and especially so in the dog walking area.  Due to the unexpected slow down from Covid 19 it could be a couple months or more now.
SO HAPPY THIS LARGE MARBLED ROCK HAS BEEN SAVED:))
Still hoping to re-enter the RV traveling world again at some point so we are continuing to keep an eye out for a small RV.  Kelly saw a nice 2009 Chevy Class C in the Auto Trader this morning but it wasn't quite what we're looking for.
THIS PURPLE MARTIN HOUSE AT BAYFIELD'S BEACH HAS BEEN HERE FOR JUST ABOUT AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER
For a rare change of pace late this afternoon we decided to order us up a pizza for supper.  Kelly had noticed on Facebook Bayfield's Renegades Diner had a pizza special on so she ordered us a medium deluxe without mushrooms.  I picked it up at 5:15 and was surprised at how hot it still was when I got it home less than 10 minutes later.  Great pizza and we ate the whole darn thing.  Well, Kelly ate more than I did of course.  I can't figure out how she eats way more than I do and yet I am the one who puts on the dreaded weight!!
HEADING INTO BAYFIELD LATE THIS AFTERNOON TO PICK UP THE PIZZA....BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION AHEAD
PAY FOR PIZZA AT WINDOW TO RIGHT AND PICK UP PIZZA IN HALLWAY AT LEFT
BEFORE COVID THIS WAS A BUSY PLACE
WAITING FOR THE PIZZA
AND HERE IT IS AT HOME:))
A KIND AND THOUGHTFUL SOUL IN OUR PARK HAS MADE UP SOME MASKS, PLACED THEM IN INDIVIDUAL ZIP LOCK BAGS AND PLACED THEM IN OUR MAIL ROOM.....THIS IS MY MASK NOW AND THANK YOU TO WHOMEVER FOR DOING THIS:))
I'm already having quite a time with one of our black Squirrels.  'Blackie' destroyed our finch feeder so I put up another one of a different kind.  Blackie nailed that one too.  So now I've rigged up a horizontal pipe atop our bird station with another bird feeder hung from the end of it.  Works great except for one problem.  Since hanging it there all our Finches have vanished and I have not seen a single Finch anywhere in the past two days.
I HAVE PROBABLY PLACED THE GOLDFINCH FEEDER TOO CLOSE TO THE MAIN FEEDER AND THE FINCHES MAY BE FRIGHTENED BY THE BIG GRACKLES, BLUE JAYS, AND MOURNING DOVES ZOOMING IN AND OUT
WHAT THE HECK WAS THIS I SAW SCAMPERING UNDER A PARKED CAR HEADING FOR A TREE IN BAYFIELD THIS MORNING??
A WHITE RAT??
NOPE IT'S A WHITE SQUIRREL IN A BIG HURRY
AND THERE IT GOES INTO THE WOODS
GROANER'S CORNER:((  The Pope met with the College of Cardinals to discuss a proposal from Shimon Peres, the former leader of Israel. "Your holiness," said one of the Cardinals, "Mr. Peres wants to determine whether Jews or Catholics are superior, by challenging you to a golf match." The Pope was greatly disturbed, as he had never held a golf club in his life."Not to worry," said the Cardinal, "we'll call America and talk to Jack Nicklaus. We'll make him a Cardinal, he can play Shimon Peres... We can't lose!" Everyone agreed it was a good idea. The call was made and, of course, Jack was honored and agreed to play. The day after the match, Nicklaus reported to the Vatican to inform the Pope of his success in the match. "I came in second, your Holiness," said Nicklaus."Second?!!" exclaimed the surprised Pope. "You came in second to Shimon Peres?!!""No," said Nicklaus, "second to Rabbi Woods."

A redneck calls up the White House and tells the receptionist: "I'd like to become the next President of the United States." Receptionist: "What are you, an idiot?" Redneck: "Why, is it required?"
Receptionist: "Well it wasn't before but it is now!!"

  1. Never have seen an albino squirrel. For real??? Amazing it is doing so well...
A long time ago there was a video of a guy in England trying to foil the squirrels...and preserve his bird feeder. Ended up with Rube Goldberg contraption (are you old enough for that?) and the squirrel was still winning.
As ever, thanks for your posts.

  7. A white squirrel, that is a first. Great job you two on saving that wonderful piece of marbled rock. Overall neat photos of your area. I was touched by that lady making and donating those masks. Hopefully the residents will put up a few that you notes for her.
