ABOUT ALL I CAN SQUEEZE OUT

A promising fiery orange sunrise led nowhere and it was the only sky color we saw all day except for a sullen gray heavy overcast.  Cold winds were soon upon us as our day deteriorated into a miserable nothingness.  With windshield wipers occasionally keeping a few bits of graupel at bay in this morning's freezing temperatures Pheebs and I poked ourselves along for awhile grabbing a coffee at McDonalds in Goderich.  Lake Huron waters were calm with no signs of shoreline ice or offshore ice packs.  Skies seemed to waver as air and water in places came together in a crushing gloomy gray sludge.   And that's about all I can squeeze out of this unenthusiastic tired mind of mine today...………….

GROANER'S CORNER:((  On some air bases, the military uses one side of the field and civilian aircraft use the other side, with the tower in the middle serving both. One day, at one of these fields, a call from an aircraft called in asking, "Hey, Tower, what time is it?  "The tower answered, "Who is calling?  "The aircraft answered, "What difference does it make?  "The tower responded with, "It makes a lot of difference. If you are a civilian aircraft, it's three o'clock; if you're an Army aircraft, it's 1500 hours; if you're a Navy aircraft, it's 3 bells; if you're an Air Force aircraft, the big hand is on 12 and the little hand is on 3; and if you're a Marine aircraft, it's Thursday afternoon and 120 minutes 'til Happy Hour."

While visiting a friend who was in the hospital, I noticed several pretty nurses, each of whom was wearing a pin designed to look like an apple. I asked one nurse what the pin signified. "Nothing," she said with a smile. "It's just to keep the doctors away."

  1. Good one Al. I like the joke about the time inquiry at the air base. Some days are like that when the weather influences our mood. Should you have a craving for an excellent apple fritter and are in for a little drive to lift your spirit, I recommend the Maple City Bakery at 361 Grand Ave. W. in Chatham. maplecitybakery.ca It will not disappoint ;-)
If you think the day was dull, we had strong NE winds that pushed Lake Erie to come for a visit via the storm drains in our area!
