SIKESTON MISSOURI TO ABOUT 40 MILES SOUTH OF LITTLE ROCK ARKANSAS:: J.B.’S RV PARK…’OH DEAR’ CAN WE SAY RUSTIC

HEY WELL AT LEAST IT’S ‘NOT ANOTHER PICTURE OF US AT  WALMART’ AGAIN’

VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC ON SOUTHBOUND I-55 NORTHWEST OF MEMPHIS TENNESSEE THIS MORNING

There’s an old saying, ‘Red sky in morning sailor take warning.  Red sky at night sailor’s delight’.  We sure had a fiery red sunset Monday night so I was hoping to be delighted by ‘big blue morning skies.  Didn’t happen.

Under cloudy skies we rolled out of Sikeston Missouri’s Walmart at 7:40 a.m. making our way a short distance east to I-55 heading south.  Two and a half hours later on bare and dry lightly trafficked roads we bounced off the northwestern side of Memphis Tennessee ricocheting west off I-55 onto I-40.  First Rest Area we came to near Forrest City we pulled in, shut it down and had ourselves a break with ham sandwiches and hot coffee.  Nice long break again which is different from other years when we took on the fly ‘jackrabbit’ breaks.

THIS POOR RANCHER WAS DOING ABOUT 5 MPH WITH THE HAMMER DOWN  GOING UP A LONG GRADE WESTBOUND ON I-40

A nice driving day with light traffic south on I-55 but traffic noticeably picked up when we headed west on I-40.  Lots and lots of trucks.  Because of it being New Years Day it was our easiest run around Little Rock Arkansas’s southern by-pass route.  We’ve done this same route maybe half a dozen times over the years and some times we did it in the pre-dawn darkness trying to beat the city’s morning rush.

HEADING WEST NEW YEARS DAY 2019 AND IT SEEMS WE JUST CANNOT ESCAPE THESE CLOUDY DAYS…..NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER HAVE FOLLOWED US RIGHT INTO JANUARY:(((

Because of it being New Year’s Eve a younger segment of the Sikeston locals were still flopping around like a bunch of trained Seals in the Walmart parking at 3 a.m. so needless to say it wasn’t a good night’s sleep for either Kelly or I.  With that in mind we decided to look us up a hopefully quiet RV Park tonight.  Climbed aboard the internet and found J.B.'S RV Park and Campground south of Little Rock Arkansas right alongside I-30.  Rolled in about 2 p.m.  Well, it’s quite a place alright and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it for any of you high end RV folks out there.  No nice level cement pads with smoothly paved roads and four inch curbs, No hot tubs or shuffle courts.  Things are pretty quaint and rustic which of course we here at the Bayfield Bunch don’t mind so much.  It’s an Okay overnight spot for us and we have full hook-ups.  If you don’t mind tracking a little dirt into your coach and getting your tires dirty it might be aright for you too.  I did really like the showers though.  Lots of water pressure and lots of hot water in a nice warm washroom/laundry building.  Showers are free so no having to stick a hundred quarters in a stupid machine to get three and a half minutes worth of hot water.  We couldn’t shower in the rig because we are having a few water issues at the moment.

Well, just as Christmas kinda blew right on by me like a speeding freight train this year New Years did about the same.  Couldn’t seem to get myself into the Christmas spirit and I totally forgot about it being New Years Eve until I heard a few guns go off earlier Monday evening near Walmart in Sikeston.  I haven’t put much thought into any New Years thoughts except to say looking back over the past 12 months I have to give the year to my blog readers and say thanks again to everyone for your continuing interest , kind words, and support.  My goal for 2019 will simply be to keep my blog going for another year.  Thanks to all you folks for helping me through another 365 days:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((  New Years Resolutions You Can Actually Keep::

I want to gain weight. Put on at least 30 pounds.

I will start buying lottery tickets at a luckier store

Stop exercising. Waste of time.

Watch more TV. I've been missing some good stuff.

Gain enough weight to get on The Biggest Loser.

I will do less laundry and use more deodorant.

I will no longer waste my time relieving the past, instead I will spend it worrying about the future.

Spend more time at work.

I should eat out more.

Take up a new habit: maybe smoking!

  1. I have lived in Arkansas all my life and not heard of JB’s RV park. It was with great interest I watched for your post tonight. How far would Al and Kelly drive into south Arkansas? If you need anything tomorrow about an hour south of where you are now, I would love to help. Yours has become my favorite blog.

  3. Yes, the noise in our neighborhood kept me awake last night, too. Fireworks are against the law, but
there is no enforcement. Hours past midnight, and LOUD! I do hope y'all get a good night's sleep tonight. That wIll help start you on a good day tomorrow. Thanks for taking us along.

  4. Loving that you are taking it easier on your trip, as that should prevent getting frazzled. Hope your night nestled in pine needles leaves you rested for a good travel day today. 😊

  6. It is nice to enjoy a relaxing drive the way we usually like to travel. Rustic parks are mostly what we enjoy , none of the fancy stuff needed for us., Paved roads, curbs ? that is for the city not camping.
    Continued safe travels.

  7. Thank you for all your postings over the years. We are following your route from last year to the southwest and are liking it. You left Canada a day after we did so we are a little bit ahead of you if you are taking the same route again. We are not in a rush either, but we are keeping an eye on the weather as well. Pleasant days make for pleasant driving most of the time. All the best to you and Kelly and the Pheebes.

  8. I'm not sure if there is anything better than a FREE hot shower when traveling. Once you get the rig pointed due West, you will feel even better, I'm guessing. Here's to another day of safe travels.

  9. Certainly our type of park, also. Full hook ups and a pull thru are what we like to find when traveling. Continued safe travels.

  10. That park reminds me of south, Georgia and Alabama. Long pine needles make a wonderful carpet but the sand underneath always seems to find a way inside. I love those parks with the tall stately trees, the wonderful views. Full hookups are nice too.
I'm glad you're travelling at a slower pace. Less stress is always good. Hopefully the water issues are minor and quickly resolved.
Happy New Year to you, Kelly and the Pheebes. Continued safe travels.

  11. Looks like a great park. Certainly as nice as the ones we've been staying at in southern Texas! It's cold and snowing in the southwest, you might want to take a couple days where you are to see the sights! Safe travels.

What is the water not doing? I am sure some RV guy has seen and fixed the same problem and be willing to help. Your blog reaches many people of many backgrounds and skills. Happy 2019.

Al my Christmas and New Years were almost the same. If it wasn't for a couple of neighbors bringing us food for dinner on Christmas Eve and again on Christmas Day and again on New Years Eve and again on New Years Day. I can't really get into the spirt either. Just my wife and I, don't even have a cute magnet aka our Dog Buddy. He went away over the rainbow bridge a little more than a year ago.

Al & Kelly I really enjoy reading your blog. I try to read it everyday. I believe my wife does read it everyday religiously. Or at least every time you post. Have a safe trip Happy New Year.

    1. Always nice to hear from you Patrick and thanks to you and the Missus for taking an interest in my blog. If it wasn't for good folks like you there wouldn't be much incentive for me to write anything or take any photos.
