A few days ago I had read the large freighter Algorail was due to be towed out of the Goderich harbor today July 4th so Pheebs and I were in the Jeep and off to Goderich to get us a few photos of that first thing this morning. We rolled down into the harbor at 8:20 a.m. but the Algorail was nowhere to be seen. Drove down to Rotary Cover, stopped and hauled my binoculars out expecting to see it out in the lake somewhere. Nope, it was gone and despite carefully scanning Lake Huron’s horizon it was totally gone. Wasn’t until later in the morning when Pheebs and I returned home that I checked the Goderich Sunset Site and scrolled down Donald R Jeffrey's site that I saw the Algorail had actually left Goderich the night before right around sunset. Donald and others have photos of the freighter being maneuvered in the Goderich harbor and this morning passing under the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia on it’s way to the scrapyard in Port Colborne Ontario. For the Algorail it is the end of an era……………
SUNDAY JULY 1RST THE ALGORAIL WAS STILL IN PORT
WEDNESDAY JULY 4TH….BIG BOAT ALL GONE NOW:((
I AT FIRST THOUGHT MAYBE THAT WAS THE ALGORAIL WAY OUT THERE ON THE HORIZON BUT ZOOMED IN I COULD SEE IT WAS A FISHING BOAT (BELOW)
FOLKS OUT ENJOYING AN EARLY COOL MORNING ALONG THE SHORES OF LAKE HURON
SURE SEEMS LIKE A BIG HOLE OVER THERE WITH THE FREIGHTER GONE….IT HAD BEEN DOCKED THERE NEARLY 3 YEARS
Friends and fellow RV’ers Caron and Chris had to slip off to the Toronto Airport today so Kelly and I with Pheebs slipped over to their place a couple times to take Dixie outside and get some supper for her.

Unfortunately this uncomfortable hot weather is keeping me inside these days so I really don’t have a lot to offer in the way of words and new photos again today. Fingers are crossed this heat wave will end in a few days.
I OFTEN NOTICE WEIRD DESIGNS IN CARS AND LOOK AT WHERE THE REAR DOOR HANDLE IS IN THIS ONE
I DON’T KNOW MAYBE IT WAS THE COLORS HERE THAT CAUGHT MY EYE
HEY SEE THIS GUY……I USED TO LOOK LIKE HIM A BUNCH OF YEARS AGO……NO IT’S NOT ME…..IT’S MY SON SEAN:)) OH, AND NO I DIDN’T TAKE THE PHOTO BUT I DID EDIT AND ALTER IT A WEE BIT:))
GODERICH GRAIN ELEVATOR
GROANER’S CORNER:(( A group of 40 year old girlfriends discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally, it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns.
10 years later at 50 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the food there was great and the wine selection was good also.
10 years later at 60 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they could eat there in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.
10 years later, at 70 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the restaurant was wheel chair accessible and they even had an elevator.
10 years later, at 80 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they had never been there before.

A guy had just returned from two weeks of vacation. He asked his boss for two more weeks off to get married. "What?" shouted the boss, "I can't give you more time now. Why didn't you get married while you were off?" "Are you nuts?" he replied. "That would have ruined my whole vacation."

Oh, man...so long to the Algorail. I sure do hate to see a freighter go to the scrapyard. Love the first groaner. It reminds me of the sign in our RV that says "We'll be friends till we're old and senile...then we'll be new friends!"
ReplyDeleteA Wendy’s’ Burger and a small chocolate Frosty was Joe’s favorite fast food place
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing the Algorail there in the harbor last time we were there,it will look pretty bare there now. I have noticed the door handles on some of these newer vehicles pretty innovative.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Kelly, AL and Pheebe. Caron and I appreciate it and it made a worry free day for us knowing Pheebs was on the job.
ReplyDeleteIt was a teary farewell at the airport for us, knowing we wouldn't see them, especially Finn for many months. He'll probably be 6'6" 250lbs when we see him next.
Good photos of Kelly with the doggies. Your son sure looks like a younger version of you. 😳
ReplyDeleteThe hounds and I need one of those 'Lake Huron' near the field in back to keep us cool. I don't remember it being this hot last summer.
