HI-HO HI-HO IT’S OFF TO THE MARSH WE GO

A CANADA GOOSE COMES IN FOR A SWAMPY LANDING IN THE MARSH

Had to switch from winter PJ's to summer PJ's Tuesday night and oh how nice to be serenaded asleep by a whole host of Peeper Frogs around our front yard pond.  This morning with patio door open beside me I was gently awakened by the tree top twittering of Spring's newly arriving songbirds.  A  mighty nice way to end a day and a mighty fine way to start a day.

With our weather map showing rain approaching from the west Pheebs and I took advantage of the early morning's sun and headed off over to the Hullett Marsh about 20 minutes away.  With roads into the Marsh open now we stopped at one of our favorite spots and got our legs going on one of the trails.  No bugs yet so it was an enjoyable hour’s walk.  We are so fortunate to have so many wildlife areas close to us.

CAN YOU SEE THE MOTHER CANADA GOOSE SITTING ON HER NEST??

Back home by 10 I continued with a few more yard projects until I heard the first peel of thunder out over the lake about 11:45.  Gathered up my gardening tools and 15 minutes later rains were upon us but only sporadically.  However, that pretty much finished off my day and the afternoon was mainly spent reading.

THE MARSH IS MADE UP OF PONDS WITH INTERCONNECTING WATERWAYS WHICH CAN ALL BE CONTROLLED BY HULLET MARSH AUTHORITY FOR RAISING AND LOWERING WATER LEVELS

I KNOW THE NAME OF THE ABOVE BIRD BUT AT THE TIME OF POSTING TONIGHT  MY MEMORY WON’T TELL ME WHAT IT IS….I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE BIRD ON THE LEFT IS

Thanks to Kevin from Travels with Kevin and Ruth for sending us a couple links regarding boon-docking here in Ontario.  Those links can be found in his comment on my Tuesday post.  Unfortunately the majority of places are in northern Ontario.  In a follow up comment George from Our Awesome Travels had a valid point about camping in northern Ontario when he said, “There is some boon docking spots up north like Kevin mentioned but quite a bit of the time the bugs can be really bad”.  That’s true of course for just about anywhere here in the summer and the other problem for Kelly and I is the summer humidity.  Yes we have two air conditioners in the rig but boon-docking in Mother Nature’s quietness with a noisy generator running for hours at time just defeats the whole purpose of being there.  Of course not every day is intolerably humid but there does seem to be more humid days now then there were years ago.  The American Southwest during the winter is perfect for us with no bugs and no humidity.  I guess we have just simply become spoiled over the years.

I took the photo below in Tuesday evenings fading light of what I think might be a Tufted Titmouse.  There were two of them outside our sunroom window for a few seconds.  Due to poor lighting the color is off and the blue you see on the bird was actually gray.

As I post this tonight our thermometer outside sits at 70F.  Unbeeweevable:))

An office exec was interviewing a flighty red head for an assistant position, and wanted to find out a little about her personality.  "If you could have a conversation with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?"  The red head replied, "I'd have to say the living one."

  1. Nice that your got our to the Marsh and few thing done outside before the rains began. Thanks for the shout Al , we try to avoid those areas up north at certain times of year mainly because of the bugs and humidity. the area where we hang out is mostly bug free.
Sure can't beat the southwest though.

  2. Looks and sounds like a perfect Spring day. Pheebs is such a lucky girl to have her morning adventures (as are you). Love the pic north of the bridge :-))

  3. The biggest reason I love the South is the back waters and bayous, marshes and swamps..and the amazing critters...I especially loved Southern Louisiana where the night swamp creatures performed a lullaby every night...wonderful!
