WE WERE THE FIRST ONES TO ENTER THE THEATER AND THE LAST ONES TO LEAVE

KILLDEER

No not the Huron County Playhouse in Grand Bend but the Park Movie Theater in Goderich Ontario.  The movie Dunkirk was playing and they had a Wednesday afternoon matinee.  I think there was maybe only a dozen people in the theater.  Now how nice is that eh.  But here’s a question to movie theaters….why oh why oh why do you have to pump the volume up so high when showing the previews.  Today was the worst and I found myself cringing in my seat.  I can be a loud music guy with the best of them but there is a sanity line and that movie theater today definitely crossed that line.  Totally ridiculous and how long can it be before someone launches a lawsuit citing damage and loss of hearing problems…………..

ANOTHER NICE MORNING’S DRIVE THROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE

Heat was already building when Pheebs and I were walking in the Hullett Marsh this morning.  I knew it was going to be hot day.  The Marsh was quiet except for an occasional ‘chug-er-rum.’  About the only things moving were a few Blue Herons and lots of baby frogs jumping through tall mid summer grasses laden with another heavy over night dew.  It was wet shoes and paws that clambered back into the Jeep.

IT WAS A QUIET MORNING IN THE MARSH

Cruised around half a dozen country roads we’ve cruised around dozens of times before and no doubt will cruise around dozens of times in the future.  I was asked not long ago if I get bored driving around the same roads looking at the same old things day after day.  My quick answer to that is not really.  Yes there is a bit of boredom to it but it does not come anywhere close to the boredom of sitting around the house day after day.  Things are always in a state of change in the countryside.  Light and shadows change with the passing of clouds and different weather patterns. Crops sprout, grow, and are harvested.  A variety of wild flowers bloom at different times and nature’s colors change with with each passing week.  Overcast days can be moody while sunny days can be happy.  I find traffic free country roads to be relaxing, thought provoking, enlightening, and encouraging.   Very little human noise to compete with Mother Nature’s serenity.  We are lucky in our area that we have so many backroads criss-crossing the rural farm lands and it’s because of all those road options that I am able to keep the hounds of boredom at bay……….

WE HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF CORN FIELDS HERE IN SOUTHERN ONTARIO

A BIT BLURRY BUT I NEARLY MISSED THIS PAIR OF SAND HILL CRANES FLYING BY

Sure am noticing the days getting shorter.  I’m usually at the computer until 9 p.m. every night and where not long ago I didn’t have to put on the overhead light now I do.  The day’s humidity quickly drained my energy and I got about the square root of nothing accomplished this afternoon.  80F forecast for tomorrow.  Nuts!!

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A priest and a rabbi operated a church and a synagogue across the street from each other. Since their schedules intertwined, they decided to go in together to buy a car. After the purchase, they drove it home and parked it on the street between them.  A few minutes later, the rabbi looked out and saw the priest sprinkling water on their new car. It didn't need a wash, so he hurried out and asked the priest what he was doing.  "I'm blessing it," the priest replied. The rabbi considered this a moment, then went back inside the synagogue.
He reappeared a moment later with a hacksaw, walked over to the back of the car and cut off two inches of the tailpipe.

Why did the chicken run onto the football field?    Because the umpire called a foul.

  2. Good Groaner tonight. Fantastic butterfly pics. I enjoy drives along the back roads of the base close to us, never know what animal or silly military thing I will see.

  4. I haven't been to a movie in a long time but I experienced just what you describe. Ridiculous sound volume. I take a pair of earplugs with me and it really helps. I love your pictures of the details of the marsh. Really fantastic. How could you ever be bored with visions like that. I think you know your place so well because you visit it over and over. I love that you do.

  7. I agree about the loud previews - like commercials on the television! Wonderful critter pics. Love the cranes in flight.

  8. Your words about driving those back roads capture why I write about 'seasonsinthevalley'. Things are always changing, not just over the season but over the day, with the weather, with my own mood. A drive around the countryside is like an ongoing meditation, inspiring you to be observant and aware of what you're seeing. And it's peaceful time by yourself! I can never get enough of it.

  9. The unbelievably high decibels in movie theaters today is an assault on one's senses. Had to leave once and got my money back and have never been back. I suppose I could wear my ear big ear protector headset I bought at the dollar store for when the lawn people come with their ginormous lawn tractors with their engines blaring right outside the window. The lady at the ticket booth said I was the only one that ever complained about the movie sound being too loud. Hmmmm.....
