A READER ASKS: COULD YOU TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT PHEEBS?

DSC_1677

Looks like we here folks in this Canada place are having ourselves a big 150th birthday party this week end.  Lots of city, town, and rural people have decked out their places with Canadian flags and celebratory paraphernalia.  When Pheebs and I were out this morning we kept an eye out for anything red and white.

A cloudy morning gave way to a sun drenched afternoon with summer like temperatures arriving back in the area after a lengthy absence.  A great week-end coming up for boaters, beach people, and tourists making their way to the quaint little village of Bayfield with it's wide main street and trendy shops and eateries.  I remember years ago when I too was a tourist who liked coming up on week-ends to Bayfield on the picturesque shores of Lake Huron as well.  And now here we are living here.  Nice:))

A PEACEFUL MORNING ON PORTER HILL LINE

Managed to get a few outside chores done before being driven inside by growing humidity.  Our A/C kicked in around 2 pm.  We were sure lucky having those cooler temps over the last few weeks.  For me that was a nice bonus.

DSC_1675Growing up years ago we just took it for granted we were Canadians living in Canada.  Often times though we would wish we were living in the United States because of all the really neat stuff and good times they seemed to be having down there.  All that hip music, big movies and even bigger stars.  All the great cars and hot rods, clothing fads, California and Florida beaches, cowboys. mountains, deserts and palm trees.  Disneyland, Disneyworld, and Davy Crockett.  Most of all those things are still there of course but it’s a whole different attitude and mind set now than when I was growing up.  My oh my oh my how times have changed and I myself am so happy, thankful, and proud to be a Canadian living in a great country like Canada now.

In a recent blog comment reader Scott asked, “One of these days when you have little to write about, could you tell us a little more about Pheebs? Age? Breed? How you came to make her part of your family? How long you have had her”?

THIS IS OUR FIRST PICTURE OF PHEEBS THE DAY WE MET HER IN ZURICH ONTARIO

Pheebe who’s name was Evelyn (Eve) when we got her in August of 2011 is a mixture of Burnese Mountain dog and Border Collie.  She has the sweetest disposition of any dog we have ever met and to this day have never heard her growl even once.  Pheebs was born on October 8th 2009 and lived nearly 2 years in Zurich Ontario until she came to live with us on Tuesday August 9th 2011.  Two of our beloved border collie dogs died in April of 2011 leaving us with our dear little Cora.  I always called her Beans and referred to her as ‘The Motormouse’.  Cora was a lovable little Pugish type dog.  In July after we came to terms regarding April’s loss of Max and Checkers we began thinking of another dog not only for us but for Cora as well.

SHE WALKED RIGHT OVER AND SAT BESIDE KELLY

We made the rounds of disappointing dog adoption agencies etc and also stopped into our Vet clinic in Zurich to let them know we were looking for a dog.  It was a call about a week later from our Vet that put us on the trail of a dog called Evelyn.  He said he knew of a young growing family that had to make some room and their dog would be looking for a good home.  He gave us a phone number to call which we did and within 20 minutes we were in Zurich.

WHEN THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN IN ZURICH IT STILL WASN’T A DONE DEAL BUT I WAS SURE HOPING IT WAS GOING TO BE

Liked Pheebe the instant I first saw her and knew within minutes she was the perfect dog for us.  But, there was one hurdle to get over.  How would she get along with our sometimes cranky and aging little Motormouse.  We had brought little Cora so I went out to the Jeep and brought her in the house to meet Pheebs.  There was no animosity on either of their parts and the thing that clinched the deal for us was when Cora after walking around a bit laid down and Pheebe or Evelyn as we knew her then walked right over and laid down beside.

THIS IS THE MOMENT THAT CLINCHED THE DEAL

It was a done deal.  The young family and Evelyn's Grandparents wanted some time to say good-bye to Pheebs before bringing her over to our place later.  And that’s what they did.  A car pulled into our driveway an hour after we got home and out jumped our new to us Pheebs.  The lady with her little girl along stayed about half an hour to make sure Pheebs would be alright with the adjustment which of course she was.  When we took Pheebs in the house later and I sat down in my recliner she bounded right up onto my lap and of course the rest is history………

OUR VERY FIRST MORNING WALK TOGETHER

BOTH THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN WITHIN MINUTES OF EACH OTHER AFTER COMING INTO THE HOUSE……..WE KNEW WE HAD A GOOD DOG AND PHEEBS KNEW SHE HAD A GOOD HOME

The lady with the little girl asked if they could come back in a week to visit Pheebe and we said yes.  They did come over the following week to see her and left happily knowing Pheebe was truly in good hands.  We never saw the lady and her little girl again and I’ve often wondered if by chance she happens to follow my blog and is able to vicariously visit Pheebe aka Eve almost daily.  I hope so………….:))

PEEKING AT ME THIS MORNING TO SEE IF I’M GOING TO LEAN OVER AND GIVE HER A TUMMY RUB…..THIS HAPPENS ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES A DAY AT OUR HOUSE:))

GROANER’S CORNER:(( The barber's client looked depressed, so the barber told him, "Cheer up. I knew a guy who owed $5,000 he couldn't pay. He drove his vehicle to the edge of a cliff, where he sat for over an hour. A group of concerned citizens heard about his problem and passed a hat around. Relieved, the man pulled back from the cliff's edge."  "Incredible," said the client. "Who were these kind people?"  "The passengers on the bus."

At Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs.  Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and she said, 'Johnny, what is the matter?'  Little Johnny responded, 'I have pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife.'

Knock, knock!
Who’s there?
Opportunity!
That is impossible. Opportunity doesn’t come knocking twice!

  5. I remember the one and only time I met Pheebs. It was the first Blogfest. Didn't know if you and Kelly were going to be there, then I saw Pheebs...........and knew you were there. Pheebs was running around greeting everyone. When we walked up Pheebs went right to Joe. Instant friends. Another sweet memory. Also I loved your flower pictures but I especially loved the beautiful blue ones.
