A GREAT MORNING…….THEN THE BOTTOM FELL OUT

We had ourselves a great morning and decided to move the rig a short distance to a nicer location.  And that’s when we encountered our first ever really nasty person.  It was instantly obvious to me this short tempered angry man living in a tent was mentally unbalanced which another nearby boon-docker fellow confirmed.  There is more to this story of course and maybe in a later blog I will tell you what happened.  Because of this unfortunate encounter Kelly and I felt it would be safer for us to leave the immediate area and that is what we did.  In Shakespeare’s immortal words, ‘sometimes discretion is the better part of valor’.  And so it was so this morning.  We are temporarily in another location and in the morning we will once again Jeep ourselves around looking for another site.  Hopefully somewhere with better internet and cell phone connections……..and no people!!  No point in me including any photos tonight because our connection is very poor.  Not even sure this post will publish………….

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A cowboy rides into town on Friday, stays three days and leaves on Friday.  So how does he do it?  The horses name is Friday.

  1. Sounds like a wise choice to me.

  2. Wise decision on the move away from the grumpy camper. Life at best is short and unfortunately in all walks of life there are some not so nice folks. Hope you get a really good spot tomorrow and enjoy.

  3. That is one of the best thing about RVing...if you don't like your neighbors, you just turn the key and drive away.

  4. Having been an RVer as well as a tent camper, I can see both points of view. But when you're in a tent and think you've found a nice quiet spot, you can't move as easily as you can in an RV. You also probably make less noise and have less impact on the environment. To write the tenter off as grumpy when you don't know his story seems to be a bit unfair.

  5. I am sorry you had a bad experience. Moving was probably for the best. Maybe he didn't want your RV to be part of his scenery? It's hard to know what will set some people off. A few years ago I somehow ticked off a lady in our Walmart parking lot. I think she was providing a ride for an employee there. Stopped mid lane. I guess I got too close, not knowing that she was going to stop there. She came out of the vehicle raving and ranting, then got in and chased me. Right on my tail when I exited the parking lot. On my tail going down the street. Don't know how far she might have followed. I did a quick, SCARY right turn back into the lot. Was some relieved that she kept going straight! That sure shook up that day for me. Hopefully Monday will be way better for you.

  6. It's tough to find a solitary place anywhere since so much of the area has been turned over to the State Park. Not like it use to be. Good luck finding a quiet place with cell service:)

  7. I am pretty certain for whatever happened with the tenter, it was not the fault of Al and Kelly. Most likely, someone needs a happy pill and Al and Kelly did the right thing, by moving on.

    1. You sure this wasn't any of your party friends?

  8. Yes, I agree - discretion is always better than being close to someone you worry about. And there is a bit of mental illness out here in the desert. Ask any Ranger and they will tell you. I'm glad you moved on, and hope you find a great spot with a really good connection!

  10. That's sad that you had to have that encounter but isn't it awesome that you can just pick up and move when you don't like your neighbours. We have been following your blog for a while and are interested to see where you end up in Borrego. We spend lot's of time there but are also getting tired of Rockhouse Road. Today we are heading to Ajo and are really looking forward to it after seeing all the beautiful pictures you posted!

  11. Unfortunately there are a few off-balanced people out here. Smart to just move away. Great thing about being on wheels. Even GB

  13. South of San Clemente there are some camp sites where you can relax in the balmy weather.
Everywhere I go there are sketchy people, from nice to not so nice, from the boonies to the inner city. Used to rough it years ago in the San Bernardino mountains, backpack, rock climbing as a child all the way to 45 years, now I love hotels.

  14. I was in a position to know of such a guy when I lived in San Diego. To say he hates humans would be an understatement. He is considered a danger to others and is encouraged to live away from others. Hears voices telling him all manner of crazy stuff. Cannot live within walls of own house, and even lives in a tent in the middle of his own property when relatives find him and bring him in annually for his VA eligibility "checkup." Mainly lives in a tent in the mountains or desert, depending on weather. I am only surprised it took you this long to run into someone like him. In the future, trust your gut. Always be ready to move out. Do not rely on what neighboring people might or might not confirm. There are more creatures like him where you are. Sorry.
