LOW OVER A NEARBY TREE LINE THE AIRPLANE APPEARED TO BE IN TROUBLE

TULIP

After Tuesday mornings melt down in the Rona store I was really needing myself some relaxing country air so I didn’t waste any time loading up the Pheebs this morning & away we went.

SKUNK CABBAGES

Had I had my eyes closed & not known I was in Goderich’s Walmart store I would have thought I was in a Las Vegas casino walking by a group of people at a slot machine who had just won a million bucks.  A lot of hollering & whooping going on as I passed a dozen Walmart employees standing near the produce section.  Well of course I knew right away what was going on because waaaay back in the late 60’s I worked at the camera counter in Stratford Ontario’s K-Mart store & on Monday morning’s the staff would gather for a big pep rally just before the store opened.  ‘RawRaw Zis Boom Baw’.  The store & personnel managers would speak & get everybody totally revved up for the day & week ahead.  Lots of shouting, hollering & whooping as I recall.  Even reserved little old me got in on the action with a few whoops of my own.  Now writing this reminds me of a similar thing.  Also in the late 60’s I worked for Simpson-Sears in Kitchener Ontario & a week prior to Christmas one year the staff would file out into the adjoining mall before the store opened & gather around singing Christmas carols which by the way was being played live over one of the local radio stations.  Yessireeee, I was right there standing with the best of them just a beltin out ‘Jingle Bells Santa Smells’…..:))

WELL SORT OF

Picked up some Peat Moss at Canadian Tire, a bottle of Omega 3 fish capsules at Wallyworld, coffee & a muffin at Tim Hortons plus a tank of gas at the Shell station.  Minutes later Pheebs & I were north of Goderich walking on the Maitland Trail.  Beautiful sunny Spring morning to be outside.  The Maitland Trail is an old abandoned railway line running from Goderich’s north harbor area to points east many miles away.  It’s a popular walking, hiking, jogging, & bicycling trail. GOOD THING SHE DOESN’T HAVE GREEN FUR OR I’D NEVER BE ABLE TO FIND HER

Stopped by the William 'Tiger' Dunlop tomb site again which is along the trail & took a few more photos.  Pheebs & I were there last Spring & the Spring before as I recall.  It’s a tranquilly scenic spot with great views of the Maitland River Valley below leading to the church spired town of Goderich & the deep blue waters of Lake Huron beyond.   DSC_0023

Pheebs & I were home by noon.  Kelly said Bluewater Carpet had called saying they were coming this afternoon to lay carpet in the first of 3 rooms we’re having done.  That led to a little scrambling to clear the decks for their arrival but I don’t mind that kind of scrambling when one knows home improvements are on their way.

THE MAITLAND TRAIL RUNS VERY CLOSE TO GODERICH’S SKY HARBOR AIRPORT & UPON LEAVING THE TRAIL AREA I HEARD A VERY LOW FLYING PLANE

THE PLANE BANKED STEEPLY & APPEARED TO BE IN TROUBLE AS IT CAME IN LOW OVER THE TREE LINE

SECONDS LATER IT MISSED THE RUNWAY & DOVE RIGHT IN

THE LANCASTER AIRCRAFT THIS PLAQUE REFERS TO ONCE SAT ON A LARGE PEDASTOL HERE AT THE GODERICH AIRPORT…..IT WAS AIRLIFTED BY A LARGE HELICOPTER TO THE HAMILTION AIRPORT YEARS AGO, FULLY RESTORED, & IS NOW ONE OF THE ONLY LANCASTER BOMBERS IN THE WORLD STILL FLYING

It was 3:45 when the carpet installer guy rolled in & with Pheebs help it didn’t take him long to get the carpet down.  In the meantime Kelly & I slipped over to the Bayfield Garage & picked up our Pontiac Sunfire which we had taken there first thing this morning concerning a red warning light in the dash.  Turned out to be an O2 sensor & after checking out the system they said not to worry about it & cancelled the light.DSC_0003

Here’s a video that might be of interest to a few readers.  If you like Jay Leno & old cars I think you might like his take here on a 1961 Dodge Polaris official California Highway Patrol police car.  My Step-Dad had a new 1961 Ford Galaxy so vehicles of that era are always of special interest to me.  My buddy Gary’s Dad down the street had a new 1961 Chevy Impala & I wrote a post about our 2 Dad’s cars back in July of 2009 entitled, My Dad's Car Is Better Than Your Dad's Car.

GROANER’S CORNER:((   A Few Simple Home Remedies:

- You only need two tools in life – WD-40 and duct tape.  If it doesn’t move and should, use the WD-40.  If it shouldn’t move and does, use the duct tape.

- If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives.  Then you’ll be afraid to cough.

- If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

- Thought for the day:  some people are like slinkies – not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when they’re pushed down the stairs.

While creating husbands,God promised women that good and ideal husbands would be found in all corners of the world.  And then she made the earth round…………….

  1. Love the groaner about the WD-40 and duct tape! The Maitland trail looks like such a pleasant trail to walk. That's the kind I need these days rather than rocky, hilly trails with twists & turns.

  2. In all the years I've been visiting Goderich, I've never gone to see Tiger Dunlop's tomb. Have to put that on my list.

  3. Enjoyed the plane crash, all in good fun. That carpet made a big improvement, looks nice.
The farmer in the John Deere is using a ' No Till Planter ' that prevents erosion and saves fuel. The seeds are in the top hopper and dolled out by the bumps on the shaft under it. The hoses carry the seeds down to be placed at correct depth for growing and gently covered. The wide spaces in the hoses is for tractor tires in the future. We never had one, but they were very popular in Texas. It is like a very heavy duty and more precise seed spacing grain drill, in other words a lot of hard work to fix between seasons.
Thanks for all the nice pics, might make it over that way in a year or two.

  4. All the green is so beautiful. We love the desert but are missing all that lush foliage. Can't believe you didn't go back in the store and bring Miss P a treat - that face!! Nice that the RC plane had soft grass to "crash" into :-)))

  5. That dash light will eventually come back on. Over here it is a good enough reason to deny you the inspection sticker. Had me a 1972 Dodge Polara myself once until a drunk idiot smashed into the trunk. Gah...
