WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE A PAIR OF CARDINALS FREQUENTING OUR BACK YARD

The ALCO chain of stores announced this past week they are going out of business.  Of course to most folks that means one thing………‘bargoooons’.  Kelly wasn’t up to driving to Wickenburg & back so I quickly put on my chauffer’s cap & off we went first thing this morning.  Even I went in & browsed the aisles.  Have had it in my mind for awhile to pick myself up a vest of sorts.  Sure enough I found one with 20% off the already lowered price.  A tad big for me but who cares the price was right & it was the last one on the rack.  It’s lined, made tough, & has 4 pockets which is always a bonus for me.  We did take advantage of other bargains & left the store loaded down.

Kelly wanted to stop at the Double DD Western ware store down the road but I wasn’t keen on that.  Been in there once & it’s way to expensive for this guy’s taste.  Kelly insisted I come in & look for another vest, a lighter summery one.  Heck I already just got a vest.  Oh well in I went & gol darn it if I didn’t come out with another vest.   Kelly said early Christmas present.  All leather & just the kind of vest I had in mind.  Thanks Santa:))

A quick stop at Safeway, CVS Pharmacy, & the Health Food Store netted us a bunch of ingredients for a new ‘Power Shake’ plan we are starting plus Kelly was able to pick up a few things reader’s had mentioned which might help with her medical condition.  All & all it was a successful shopping venture & I never even got to get irritated or impatient not even once.  And I ended up with 2 new vests.  Now how’s that for a good day eh:))

Can’t remember the last time Kelly cut my hair but it had to have been way back early in the summer or maybe it was last March before we left Arizona.  Anyway I held out for as long as I could again before going under the scissors Friday morning.  Kelly really shortened it up this time in hopes we can maybe get away without cutting it for another 7 or 8 months or so.  My hair seems to live it’s own life of extremes.

THIS IS BEFORE THE HAIRCUT IN OUR BACKYARD…THERE WASN’T ENOUGH HAIR LEFT TO TAKE AN ‘AFTER’ PICTURE:((

The 2 photos below are an example of what you can do using the ‘Retouch’ tool in your Picasa 3.9 photo editor.  Notice the small Mesquite tree leaf stem around this House Finch’s eye in the first photo.  Second photo shows that stem removed.  With a little patience & a touch of experience you too can have fun improving your photos.

  1. There are all sorts of ocean-shore birds flying around us at our new site in the FL keys. If Merikay doesn't drag me off for other activities tomorrow, I may try to contend with you for bird-pix of the day. :-)

  2. Your picture of the cardinal taking flight is amazing. Your cardinals have taller tufts on the top of their heads than ours do up here in MI.

  3. Wonderful bird pictures, as usual for you! Good "before" pictures, too. BUT, I was looking for pics of you modeling the vests! Glad you two had a good day. Kelly must have been in pretty good shape . A good thing!

  5. Oh! what lovely red birds....your pics certainly are tip-top. Your haircut adventure reminded me - I used to cut sons and hubbies hair....until..hubbie jumped from the stool and started crawling around the floor!! "what is the matter?" his smart remark "I'm looking for my ear!" it has become a family joke now and he goes to town for haircuts...LOL

  10. Love the cardinal photos! Mike is a vest person, even on cool summer mornings. I know it's gonna be a hot day when I get up in the morning and he isn't wearing a vest!

  11. If that is 7-8 months hair growth you are doing well. I'll have that much hanging down my neck and over my ears in half that time. Maybe I need Kelly to give me her shorter cut.

  13. Just something about keeping the chest and back warm, with the arms free, when it's cold but not wet, that make those vests perfect for a desert winter. The Cardinal taking flight is wonderful :-)
