HAY WAGONS LOADED WITH LARGE BALES OF HAY |
I looked at the clock. It was 2:39 p.m. and I had just finished reading the last words of Atul Gawande's book, Being Mortal: Medicine and what Matters in the End. The subject matter at times relates to other things I have been reading about this past year and a half with this book bringing it all down to a grounded human level of understanding. It's a sobering book with harsh realities yet enlightening in an interesting and educational way. This is not a book I would have read a number of years ago and yet at this age and stage of life, I can't imagine not reading it. Thanks to the people who recommended this book to me, and with that, I will forward the same recommendation on to you.

LARGE RECTANGLE BALES OF STRAW FROM THE WHEAT HARVEST |
Another in a series of beautiful summer mornings saw Pheebs and I out walking our country road earlier today. With the day's eventual build-up of heat and humidity, it was another day spent in the cool confines of our house. And that was quite okay with me.
GROANER'S CORNER:(( A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large number of goods totaling a great deal of money. The distributor noticed that the previous bill hadn’t been paid, so he asked his collections manager to leave a voice mail for them saying, “We can’t ship your new order until you pay for the last one.” The next day the collections manager received a collect phone call, “Please cancel the order. We can’t wait that long.”

If I eat healthy today, then I can have one piece of candy as a reward. If I eat unhealthily, I can have the whole bag.

I just went to Goodreads and read the description for Being Mortal. While I doubt it's a book I would read, I certainly agree with what I read in the description. I've stood beside the bed of many an elderly patient and listened to the doctors say, "if we don't do this surgery on your 85 year old mother she is going to die." Well, guess what doc, she is probably going to die anyway and you are going to make her death a much more painful one!!
