FOR THE FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN IT WAS COLD WET AND RAINY

 A COLD RAINY DAY AT THE BEACH

Rain began late Tuesday afternoon, hung around most of the night, and stayed all day Wednesday.  It is still raining now as I type this Wednesday night.  I think I just saw the Jeep floating down the driveway.

 DESPITE THE RAIN, THESE CANADA GEESE ARE BUSY GLEANING THIS RECENTLY HARVESTED BEANFIELD 

Needless to say, we did not make it out for our evening walk Tuesday or either evening or morning walks today.  Country roads were a soupy mess so we stayed on pavement and headed for Goderich with a hastily made-up grocery list of nonessentials just to give us a reasonable purpose to go somewhere.

JUST HANGING OUT ON A RAINY WET WEDNESDAY 

After stops at the Solo gas bar, Food Basics, and McDonalds, we did our usual spin down around the harbor and beach areas.  Not much going on down there of course but two big ships were at the Goderich salt mine loading up.  Here is an interesting short video of what it's like down in the world's largest underground salt mine which stretches several miles out under the waters of Lake Huron.  Goderich Salt Mine.  Our good friend and neighbor Bruce's daughter Sinnan works in that salt mine and below is a photo of Sinnan and her Dad when she took him for a short tour of the mine recently.  Kelly and I, with a group, also did a tour of this mine about 26 years ago.

Today, being the first official day of Autumn, the season kinda came in with significant fanfare possibly foretelling what's to come in the colder months ahead.  With a definite drop in temperature and a steady rain, we had the Jeep's heater on this morning and the furnace on in the house this afternoon to take the damp chill out of the air.  I transitioned into pre-winter ware this morning.  My standard fare is a T-shirt, long sleeve shirt, warm jacket, and a heavier pair of blue jeans.  And I've switched from my summer Mojave National Preserve Breezer hat to my Tombstone 22-10 ton cowboy hat for the cooler and colder weather.  In America's southwest, one can wear a cowboy hat and fit right in unnoticed but not so much up here in Ontario's baseball-cap land.  I do get some odd looks wherever I go but luckily nobody asks me where I've left my horse.

Talked to Kelly late this afternoon.  She is hoping things are going to 'finally' be in place for her mother's care by the end of September.  If so, she is hoping to head home on Sunday, October 3rd.  Yay Kelly:))
