WELL IT HAPPENED...ONE OF THE TWO BAYFIELD FISHING BOATS HAS PARTIALLY SUNK!!

In Saturday's post, I had a couple photos of two Bayfield fishing boats tied up to a dock with river ice around them.  I expressed a thought saying I was surprised to see them still there with ice forming.  Ice can puncture boat hulls, and so it did to one of the two boats.  This morning that boat named 'Last Time' was half sunk still tethered to the dock.  I think if it had not been tied up it may have totally sunk unless by chance it is resting on the river bottom.  I have no idea how deep the water is there.  Going back to the photo I took of that boat Saturday morning and comparing it to the other fishing boat there I believe it may have already slowly been taking on water Saturday morning when I took that picture of it.

THE ABOVE BOAT IS OKAY AND NOTICE THE EVEN BLUE BOTTOM SECTION ABOVE THE WATERLINE FROM FRONT TO BACK....NOW NOTICE THE BOAT BELOW AND HOW THE BLUE WATER LINE IS NOT VISIBLE FROM BOW TO STERN....I THINK THIS FISHING BOAT WAS ALREADY IN TROUBLE SATURDAY MORNING BUT I DIDN'T NOTICE IT AT THE TIME UNTIL I COMPARED THE TWO PHOTOS TONIGHT

 AND HERE IT IS NOW

 DRIVING AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER I COULD SMELL DIESEL FUEL AS WE APPROACHED THE BOAT AND I NOTICED LEAKING FUEL IN THE WATER

 WELL I GUESS I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU WHO THAT LOCAL HAYSEED IS

At first light, I was encouraged to see a bit of color showing through our pine trees along the eastern horizon.  Didn't see any tree branches moving so that of course meant no wind to drive our 19F temps even lower.  With that chunk of encouragement stuffed tightly in my pocket, Pheebs and I headed out the door.  Our cloudy sky even seemed a tad brighter than usual.  Having been into Bayfield the previous few mornings it was time for a change of direction so it was off to Goderich we ventured.  Our usual route down around the harbor netted a few photos of ice forming along the shoreline.  It wasn't long and we were on our way home again.

Aside from slipping down to Bayfield's harbor a couple of times today for some photos of the soggy fishing boat it turned out to be an inside afternoon.  Because of our cold temps, I started our rig up and let it run for a bit.  No chance of going anywhere but I cleaned all the snow off the windshield anyway.  A slight psychological lift I'd say.
