I WONDER IF IT’S A BIT OF AGING GOING ON

ONLY MANAGED TO GRAB A FEW OUTSIDE HOUSE PHOTOS THIS MORNING BEFORE THE CLOUD COVER THICKENED

Kelly had a grocery list started this morning so combined with my shorter list we decided a cloudy cool morning would be fine for a run to Wickenburg’s Safeway.  As mentioned before it’s nice having the extra room in the Liberty to take Pheebs with us when we go shopping.  And no Pheebs did not turn on the 4 way flashers this time.  She’s a good girl:))DSC_0008

Upon leaving Safeway we noticed the Bank Of America building across from Safeway is now for sale & they have moved the ATM machine kitty-corner across the intersection to beside the Laundromat.  Thought I’d mention that just in case any traveling RV folks who deal with the Bank Of America show up in Wickenburg looking for the ATM machine.

Think our temps hovered around in the upper 40’s today & with very little sun & a slight breeze I could not get myself enthused about hanging around outside.  Weather’s looking better for the coming week with lots of sunny days & warmer temps.  Cold air just doesn’t work for me so good anymore.  Our cloud cover did finally blow away early afternoon but the windy air still remained cold.

WE DO LIKE THESE ALOE VERA TYPE PLANTS THAT ARE DOING WELL ON THE PROPERTY >>>>>>>.

Probably nobody out here has ever heard of Beryl Markham & I didn’t either until browsing through Amazon’s free Kindle books.  I was stopped by a book cover showing an old pair of aviator goggles.  Well aviator goggles are generally associated with aircraft & the fact the goggles had a 1920’s look about them my attention was immediately snagged.  The books title was West With The Night.  I read a few excellent reviews with one of them saying a biography about the life & times of Beryl Markham by Mary S Lovell & entitled Straight On Till Morning  was also a ‘must read.’  Although not free I did download both books & have started first with Beryl Markhams biography.  Love these types of true & inspiring adventure stories with the added bonus of always picking up a bit of additional historic knowledge as well.  And besides I did like the 2 book titles.  Biographies & documentaries of this type are my kind of TV watching too.

Not sure why but so far since arriving in Congress nearly a month ago neither one of us has had the strong urge to jump into the Motorhome & take off for some of our usual favorite boon-docking spots.  Even places we haven’t been to are not beckoning.  It’s almost as if we are too comfortable in the house this year.  I noticed even this past summer I wasn’t chomping at the bit to head south as much as previous summers.  That sure is a huge change from the last bunch of years we have been RVing.  I can’t help but wonder if it’s a bit of age beginning to make itself felt.  I have been aware for awhile of some subtle changes occurring within.  I did touch on a few of those thought process changes a couple months ago as I recall…………………….

GROANER’S CORNER:((  For two solid hours, the lady sitting next to a man on an airplane had told him about her grandchildren. She had even produced a plastic-foldout photo album of all nine of the children.  She finally realized that she had dominated the entire conversation on her grandchildren.
"Oh, I've done all the talking, and I'm so sorry. I know you certainly have something to say. Please, tell me... what do you think of my grandchildren?"

  1. Nice that you can take Pheebs along with you now in the Liberty I am sure she loves it.
The cooler weather is not great but the desert sure is. Much nicer here than back home in the winter, in my opinion.
Like as you said as we age our lifestyles change as we age and we adjust.

  2. I have one more trip to make to NY and it definitely won't be by plane, but I can no longer get excited about the drive. I'm sure it's an "age thing".

  3. Your AZ homeplace looks so peaceful.

  4. I recently read "Circling the Sun". It is about Beryl Markham and her life in Africa. It is a great read.

Regarding your comments on aging, I notice that we are much more content at home, just being and not so much doing.

  5. Another reason for keeping the Congress house it seems, perhaps a nice place in the warm sunny southwest for as many winters you can manage is more fun for you than wandering around. Who knows. Things change from day to day for most of us.

  6. Totally agree with the changing feelings as we age..I actually wouldn't mind a "winter home", actual HOME, somewhere in Florida..and a much smaller home somewhere in the North...NOT Illinois. I guess as we age, we must like the creature comforts and just "chillaxting".

  7. Not only age in years, but in experiences as well. What was once unique and engaging is sometimes less so after doing it several times. Changes elsewhere make us change as well, like the boondocking restrictions in an area where you loved to stay in the past. Fortunately you have that lovely home to enjoy. Love those bird of paradise, they are so delicate in the harshness of the desert.

  8. thanks for the book recommendations I look for them. Sometimes we need to follow what our bodies are telling us, not selling you place here might be a wise decision for now until you figure out what you want to do.
Here in Tucson the temps sure have been low these past few mornings.

  9. I'm feeling the age thing too. Especially right now. One of my grandchildren, here in Arizona, gave me an early Christmas present, a chest cold. :( I'm draggin' at the moment. The Coach is feeling a little confining. Thanks for the book suggestions. I am always looking for new ones to read. They sound interesting.

  10. Thanks for the BofA tip. 40s would feel like a heatwave. Having a hard time keeping the water from freezing. The older I get the less I like cold.

  11. Love those rakes and shovels. So pretty! You two have such good tastes in decorating.

  12. One of the reasons we bought a home is the trips were becoming a chore rather than the excitement we felt in prior years. Also, my health played a large part in the decision. I am adjusting to the colder weather here better than I could have in AZ. Psychologically, one expects "warmth" in AZ.

  13. Love the pictures of your Congress house Al. I can see why you like it and are contented. Luckily, you can just stay and enjoy until you want to go out and roam.

  14. Passing 70 has seemed like going over the continental divide between Idaho and Montana heading east. Feels like a 15% grade...

  15. The Casa is looking mighty fine Al. Did you ever get that propane catalytic heater permanently installed with the gas tank outside? Just wondering.
