A VISIT WITH UNCLE HARRY TODAY

DSC_0072

EMPTY HAY WAGONS AWAIT THEIR BALED HARVEST...ALL OF TONIGHT'S PHOTOS ARE FROM THURSDAY MORNINGS DRIVE

So nice sitting quietly this morning listening to the fall of gentle rain.  Even the air takes on a lush smell when rain mixes with dry dusty earth.  Water dripping from the eaves set up a steady pitter patter on the corner of our rear deck.  No matter, our soggy little Cardinal happily chirped in another fine start to another fine day.

I THINK THE GUY WITH NO SHIRT MUST BE THE FOREMAN

Kelly, myself & the Motormouse slipped down to Mitchell this morning to see my Uncle Harry. We noticed his health had slipped from the last time we were there about a week & half ago.  At 95 years old any downturn in health is not a good thing.

A GAGGLE OF CANADA GEESE TOUCH DOWN ON A SUMMER'S POND (CLICK TO ENLARGE)

I'm not much of a shopping guy.  Just don't seem to have the patience for that sort of thing & especially if it's for something I'm really not to interested in.  Some guys will go to great lengths in order to get out of having to go shopping with the Missus.  Check out MIKE'S blog & see how he cleverly 'used his head' in an attempt to get out of a recent shopping trip:))

PHANNIE & MAE  are heading out on their shakedown cruise.  Mike is a flyer & talks about the importance of check lists.  I remember the first time Craig, a boyhood friend took me flying.  Taxied out to the holding area of the runway where he proceeded to read something on a small keyboard by his seat.  That unnerved me a bit because I thought he was reading the instructions on how to fly an airplane & of course that is exactly what Craig told me he was doing.  He was always quite a jokester that Craig guy was.  Mike, in his post, also talks about engine & transmission tweaking that will be of particular interest to Tiffin Motor Home owners.  Kinda glad we just got a simple old gas puffer in our rig.

Our front yard is eerily calm now as we are about to slide into the month of August.  The colorful birds of Spring have long departed, our frog pond is silent & our bird station stands unattended.  Not even a Squirrel or two.  The bustling growing season is over & there are already signs in the gardens of the coming cooler months ahead.  In a few weeks there will be a barely noticeable shift in the weather.  I will notice it though because I always watch for it................Oh, & by the way, regarding last night's post.....I remembered the correct name for those pots that were under everyone's bed many years ago......chamber pots, not pee pots:))

THE LARGE ROUND STRAW BALES ARE MEANT TO STAY IN THE FIELD, BUT SOMETIMES THEY TAKE TO WANDERING

AND SOMETIMES, THEY JUST FALL APART IN THE FIELD...I SEE A REPOSING LION HERE WITH A VERY ROUND & FLAT FACE

Karyn sent me the following update this morning on the trial of the guy who was responsible for the deaths of fellow RV'ers Bruce & Margie nearly a year ago in Pismo Beach, California... OCEANO MAN PLEADS NO CONTEST

THE HOUSE OF BUZZARD.........

THE LAST PARAGRAPH:  Many years ago I heard this saying, 'I complained I had no shoes......until I met the man who had no feet.'  That is a saying that has always stayed with me & was playing in my mind today as we left the Nursing Home in Mitchell.

OH OH, LOOKS LIKE I HAVE COME ACROSS A SWAGGERING GOOSE CROSSING.......

GROANER'S CORNER:((

A husband and wife were driving down a country lane on their way to visit some friends. They came to a muddy patch in the road and the car became bogged. After a few minutes of trying to get the car out by themselves, they saw a young farmer coming down the lane, driving some oxen before him.
The farmer stopped when he saw the couple in trouble and offered to pull the car out of the mud for $50. The husband accepted and minutes later the car was free. The farmer turned to the husband and said, "You know, you're the tenth car I've helped out of the mud today."
The husband looks around at the fields incredulously and asks the farmer, "When do you have time to plough your land? At night?"
"No," the young farmer replied seriously, "Night is when I come back here & put more water in the hole."

  2. All of our petty complaining is put into perspective by that saying. I still miss Margie and Bruce. :_(

  3. Not sure I'd want to live in the house with the buzzards on the roof! Neat picture though!

  4. Glad you and Kelly took the chance to visit Uncle Harry. I know he was glad to have family company. It is hard watching someone age at a certain point.
I hope the shirtless man didn't handle the hay too much, he probably broke out all over if he did.
    Thanks for the post!

  5. I hate to read about your Uncle Harry's condition deteriorating, but at his age it's bound to happen. He certainly has lived a lot of years, and I hope they were mostly happy ones.

  6. Hope Uncle Harry is doing okay. From all you've written about him, he seems like a fine fella.

Had to laugh at the photo of all the geese in the road. We were stopped by a herd of sheep crossing the road yesterday as we were coming back from the lake. Wish I had snapped a photo.

  7. Those haying pictures bring back fond, if distant, memories of my youth:)

  8. Everyone I'm in contact with over that way has been waiting for the rain. Doesn't look like there's going to be enough though.
I like the haying pictures. Reminds me of how much I don't miss it. Hot miserable work. Especially getting it up into the barn.

  10. It is sad to read about about your Uncle Harry's health.

I really like your pictures today, especially the canada geese.

  11. Love your photos today. I hate thinking that summer is coming to a close, we are hoping that it will be around a little longer seeing we have only had about one month of it so far.

Hope your Uncle Harry is feeling a bit better, it is so hard when they get to such an age.

Glad to hear that the guy who ran down Margie and Bruce has saved the family from having to endure a courtroom trail. Too bad he didn't have the guts to just admit he was guilty instead of pleading "no-contest".

  12. You have an amazing way of visualizing things. As soon as I read the bit about the reposing lion, we saw it too! Best wishes for Uncle Harry. You've been a good friend for him as well as being a good nephew!

  13. Hey, by golly that is a favorite saying of mine too! The principal of my high school had a sign saying that in his office. maybe that's why I remember it so well, I spent a LOT of time in the principal's office....:-)
