THEY WERE ‘THE GOOD OLD DAYS’ AND DON’T YOU LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT

DSC_2642

A second sultry morning looking like rain and I considered forcing myself to stay in and read, watch TV, and bonk around on the computer.  Pheebe of course was having none of that boring stuff and sat right beside my chair staring intently at me until at last she broke my resolve and out the door and down the road we went.  Wasn’t long before we began seeing a few dribbles of sunlight through the clouds and that was enough to cheer me up and spur me on.  Thanks to Pheebs for getting me out of the house.

SOME OF THIS WINTER WHEAT HAS BEEN WIND AND RAIN DAMAGED AND SOME HAS BEEN CUT

Another absolutely fine Sunday morning drive through the countryside southeast of Bayfield.  Farm fields are ripe with color and corn stalks are already 7 & 8 feet tall.  Winter wheat is being harvested with several different types of bean fields looking green and lush.  A profusion of mid summer flowers along roadsides, creeks, and along the edges of farmers fields.  Trees and shrubs are at their peak growth and how nice to be able to slowly wander the back country roads taking in Mother Nature’s wonders.

IT’S A WORKING DAY FOR THESE FARM BOYS

DSC_2681

It is pretty much every morning now that I take Pheebs for a ride in the Jeep for a couple hours.  We're not driving all the time of course and some mornings when it's cool enough and the air is bug free we pop into a few trails and conservation areas along the way for a walk.  It's a winning combination for both of us.  Thanks to my relentless gnawing restlessness Pheebs is able to get out and about every day and thanks to Pheebs and my readers I have a reason to go somewhere and do something along the way.  For as long as I can remember I have always had a restless spirit residing within.  Always an urge to go somewhere, a need to look over every fence, a desire to travel around the next bend in the road to see what's there.  Always looking for things whether they be answers, feelings, understandings, emotions or places.  In other words, an essential obligation to myself to free my spirit each day if only for a couple quiet country hours.

After publishing my blog early Saturday night I was having a look through several of our email accounts in the draft folders and was appalled to see how many unanswered emails I have in there many of which I had started out to answer but never finished.  Happy to say I was able to make a start at finishing some of the drafts I had started and sent those emails on their way.  After publishing my blog tonight I hope to respond to a few more folks.  Carolyn, Rhonda, and Betty I have you Gals in my sights:))

TALL WILD FLOWER HEADS BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT KIND

On my Sirius Satellite Radio in the Jeep this past month I have been listening to 'the 50's at 5' which means 1950's music on channel 05.  A nice gentle trip down memory lane for me and I'm surprised at the number of songs and artists I am able to quickly guess when the songs start.  Can't remember simple things that happened an hour ago but music seems to remain in my mind forever.  It's like living life with a jukebox in one's head.  And it is the older music I remember best.  Ever noticed if you listen to music from the 40's, 50's and very early 60's there is no anger, no attitude, no hate, no protest.  It was a much different world we lived in and that different world is evidenced in the music of those days.  But really, were they 'the good old days?'  I know there are those who will disagree and pooh-pooh that saying but of course they were the good old days.  Don't believe me?  Just listen to and sing along with that eras 'feeling good' music because that music reflected an easier optimistic and simpler time.  Take a break from the madness, put on some of the old tunes and let them take you back to a simpler happier time in your life.  You can do it, you already know most of the words I bet.  Yes indeed it was the ‘good old days’ alright and don’t you let anyone tell you different and if they do they are simply caught up in the harsh reality of today’s world and have forgotten all to soon where they came from.…………….

PHEEBS ALWAYS GETS ALL THE ATTENTION AT THE DRIVE-THRUS……….

DSC_0061

At first light I saw fog hanging in the pine trees and right away knew we were going to be in for a hot and humid day.  And I was right.  The doddering Daddy-Doggy duo were out the door early while there were still a few last smatterings of coolness in the air.

AND FARM FOLKS ALWAYS SEEM TO BE SO GOSH DARN FRIENDLY TOO

DSC00060It was our usual route and routine again with one minor change.  They gave me a cranberry muffin at McDonalds instead of my usual carrot muffin.  Not nice to un-expectantly change things up on old guys!!  Quite often it is the two same ladies we see going through the drive-thru and soon as we pull up to the wickets both those ladies brighten right up with big Colgate smiles.  It’s Pheebs they are happy to see and always make a fuss over her.  I don’t think either one of those ladies has ever noticed there is actually somebody in the driver’s seat driving the Jeep.

I’VE ALWAYS LIKED ‘HOT RODS’ ANDI USED TO HAVE HOT ROD MAGAZINES WHEN I WAS KID…..COOL STUFF

DSC_2547

With an off-shore breeze it wasn’t too bad in the shade down around the beach area at the south end of Rotary Cove.  A few people already stretched out half naked in the sand took my mind back to my younger years.  We would just about burn ourselves to a crisp trying to deepen those already deep brown summer tans.  Oh the foolish follies of frivolous youth.

A LONE MAN SITS BY THE WATER’S EDGE PENNING HIS THOUGHTS

After picking up a few things at Walmart we made fast tracks for home.  No point in even thinking about walking or hiking anywhere simply because it was already too hot and with this year’s mosquito infestation upon us right now a walk would have been brutal.  Oh how I am looking forward to cooler Autumn air.  Soooooo glad we decided to put central Air in about 5 years ago.  Wouldn’t be without it.

Not a good night's sleep so I ended up kinda tiredly slouching around in my recliner for the afternoon with my lap top perched on me trying to think of something interesting to write about.  Didn't have much luck...............

- Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.
- It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffeemaker.

- I've tried to find a suitable exercise video for women my age, but they haven't made one called "Buns of Putty."
- Don't let aging get you down. It's too hard to get back up.

There was a blonde, brunette, and a red-head on a sinking ship. It was two miles to get to shore, so the brunette swims 1 mile and drowns, the red-head swam 1 mile and got eaten by a shark.  Then the blonde swam 1 mile got tired and swam back to the ship.
