WITH ALL THE TURMOIL TAKING PLACE SOUTH OF THE BORDER

It is not often I drive the main highways and by-ways but this morning I didn't have a choice.  Freezing drizzle came in the night and continued through most of the morning.  With exception of the main salted and sanded highways, all roads were mere skating rinks.  Had to pick up a few things in Goderich so in 4-wheel drive Pheebs and I slowly made our way over to the Bluewater highway and turned north.  Didn't have any problems making it to Goderich but I did notice the streets in town were icy so I had to be mindful of that.  We did make it out to Rotary Cove but with the icy cold wind and freezing rain making everything so slippery we didn't even get out of the Jeep.  Snapped a few pics and we pointed the Jeep's nose for home.

With all the turmoil taking place south of the border some readers may be wondering why I have not voiced my opinions about it.  I have been known to do that in the past.  There is much I could say, and there is much I want to say but I made a decision a while back to keep a lid on my anger and frustration and not let it seep into my blog.  I do not want to make my blog a political platform because that is not what my blog is about.  There are way more than enough political platforms out here bombarding the airwaves without me adding my gasoline to the already out of control raging fire.  I will continue to direct my anger, frustrations, disappointments, and outrage inwards and keep my blog on the light side of straight and narrow.  Readers have made it clear to me over the years that in these maddening times my blog is a bit of respite for them.  Light banter, some humor, informative links, and pleasant photos.  I don't always live up to that but I do always return to that each time I do have a slip-up.  I think in these terrible times of chaos which is probably about to get a whole lot worse, my readers need an even bigger break and if I can use my blog to help with that break then that is my goal.  I may not always succeed, but despite being surrounded by opposing political views, I will try my best not to let myself or my blog be dragged down into the muck and mire.  So with that being said, I give you this................

The Death Of Common Sense'::  Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

  • Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
  • Why the early bird gets the worm;
  • Life isn't always fair; and
  • Maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 6 stepbrothers;
  • I Know My Rights
  • I Want It Now
  • Someone Else Is To Blame
  • I'm A Victim
  • Nobody Is Going To Tell Me What To Do
  • Lies Are Now An Accepted Norm By Millions
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone...............
GROANER'S CORNER:((
A man called the airport for flight information. "How long is your flight from Los Angeles to Denver?” he asked. "Just a minute," the pleasant agent replied. "Thank You" he said and hung up.

Why are some fish at the bottom of the ocean?
Because they dropped out of school!

Three vampires walk into a bar. The bartender looks at him suspiciously but decides to serve them anyway. "What’ll be, boys?"
The first vampire says "Blood. Give me blood."
The second vampire says "I too wish for blood!"
The third vampire says "Give me plasma."
The Bartender smiles and says "Got it. Two bloods, and a blood-light."

  4. I appreciate your not commenting on what is happening in the USA. I don't understand why people who do not live here have the need to comment on our politics. I can't ever imagine doing that in reverse to you Canadians ...or anyone. Sadly, it is not that we don't know what is going on.

  7. Yes, sad to say, it is probably a good idea to stay away from the politics.
    Spit, snot, and tears would result. Could my mother have been right about not talking about politics or religion? I thought at the time, those are important questions.And so they are. But it we want to debate them, there are more than enough places today.If we can continue to relate to each other on another level, maybe my mother was right!! I figure she is rolling over in her grave to hear me say that. I was an argumetative child.

  8. Hard to keep opinions to yourself sometimes, but I agree with you. sure wish we were all down in the desert. We don't have the cold weather yet, but it hasn't stopped raining for days and days.

  9. I think you sneaked in a little of your political thoughts in your effort not to be political 😉. It'll all blow over soon. Love your "holy" cartoon 😍

  10. It's a down right a scary place down here. And, it's not over yet, and I was thinking perhaps a GOFUNDME campaign should be started just to raise funding to buy pacifiers, and pampers for them all, but then I got to thinking... heck just use the funds to pack em all up and ship them to some place really COLD and SNOWY and then I realized they'd all likely be deported back here. So now, I am re-evaluating and pondering another idea after seeing the "Holy" cartoon!!!! We could gather em all up and drop them in the "Holy Shit House." Ya know, I miss your wars with the Squirrels, had many a laughs over them keeping you busy. I suggest you have your RV all ready for fall so you all can make a dash for the border and we'll hide you all out down in the SW corner!

  12. My enormous thanks for letting your blog be a respite in the midst all political. I have stopped reading some blogs because they have become so political and I won't name names here. That is not what I want to read when I go to a blog.

    Loved your words of wisdom tonight Al, along with your wonderful photos. In my book, keeping the blog a political free zone is a real winner.

  13. Common sense is sound practical judgement concerning everyday matters, or a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge that is shared by ("common to") nearly all people.

    The first type of common sense, good sense, can be described as "the knack for seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done".[citation needed] The second type is sometimes described as folk wisdom, "signifying unreflective knowledge not reliant on specialized training or deliberative thought." The two types are intertwined, as the person who has common sense is in touch with common-sense ideas, which emerge from the lived experiences of those commonsensical enough to perceive them.
